Psychological Profiling of an Offender The purpose of the thesis is to describe and demystify the subject of offender profiling, also called criminal profiling or psychological profiling. Criminal profiling is one of key disciplines of forensic psychology which approximately in the last twenty years became recognized as a helpful investigative tool for resolving difficult criminal cases. Second chapter focuses on practical use of criminal profiling. It covers criteria for using profiling in a particular criminal investigation, includes basic information about perpetrators and victims and shortly touches upon computer databases used in profiling. Third chapter covers the actual creation of profile of an unknown offender, from different sources suitable for gathering information to uncovering the offender's motivation and finally to the finished psychological profile. It also includes information about perpetrators of arson, rape and murder, as samples of serious offenses where offender profiling is often applied. Fourth chapter analyses the use of...

Straka, Karel January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the criminalistic method of psychological profiling of an offender. Psychological profiling consists in analyzing the offender's behavior. This analysis is used to create an offender profile that contains offender's likely characteristics. Such a profile is intended to help investigators narrow down the range of suspects, or contribute to the success of investigations by refocusing the investigative strategy. The aim of this thesis is to present a balanced view of the method of psychological profiling and to critically evaluate the possibilities of its use for improving the quality of investigative practice. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter first defines this method, including basic theoretical approaches and bases. Psychologické profilování pachatele / Psychological profiling of an offender

Suchnová, Veronika January 2016 (has links)
Cizojazyčné resumé This diploma thesis focuses on the method of psychological profiling of an offender. Psychological profiling, or simply profiling, is method aiming at an analysis of behavioural patterns of an offender which can be observed during crime investigation. The result of such analysis is a descriptive model of physical, psychological, and demographical features of the probable offender. Its purpose is to help the investigation of a crime mainly in the cases when the common criminological methods fail and there is little to no success shedding light on the crime - especially the criminal's identity. Profiling brings a new perspective and important information which could otherwise be overlooked by criminalists; a contribution that could lead to the crime being successfully solved. The thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter briefly explains the nature of psychological profiling and its place in the scientific field. Next, the work deals with terminological definition of psychological profiling and its gradual development abroad as well as in Czech Republic. In the last two subchapters, there is a list of crimes appropriate for the method of profiling and requirements for a profiling expert. The second chapter is divided into six subchapters concerned with the process of creating...

Hromádková, Adéla January 2020 (has links)
Psychological profiling of multiple murderers Abstract In my diploma thesis, I would like to summarize the basic knowledge of psychological profiling, to find out whether there are certain generally established standards for profiling experts that entitles them to participate in criminal investigations. I want to show that profiling is not just an intuitive procedure, I want to find out the role of psychological profiling in criminal investigations, whether it is important in this process for the profiling expert to know information about the victim of the crime and not only about the offender, to find out what specific information the psychological profile must provide to the investigator to be a useful tool to catch the offender, evaluate its possibilities and limits and outlined its use in the investigation of multiple murders, namely serial murders and last but not least, summarize the successful practical application of psychological profiling in practice. I divided the thesis into five parts. In the first part I deal with a summary of basic knowledge about the content of psychological profiling, a brief development of profiling, both abroad and in the Czech Republic and finally I would like to address the lack of legal anchoring of this concept in the Czech Republic. In the second part I deal with...

The effects of crime drama viewing on psychological profile accuracy for a sexual homicide offender

Kilgore, Terri Leigh 03 May 2008 (has links)
This study investigated whether watching crime related television shows affected accuracy of psychological profiles for a sexual homicide offender. The television shows in the study were a fiction drama with a profiling element, a fiction drama without a profiling element, a nonfiction show with a profiling element, a nonfiction show without a profiling element, and a fiction drama with no crime element at all. Participants were 290 college students who watched a television show and then profiled a sexual homicide offender. High self-exposure to crime related television shows and experimental exposure to profiling related television shows were associated with greater accuracy for profiling certain aspects of the offender and/or offense. In addition, gender interacted with crime show viewing for certain types of profile accuracy.
