Furthermore, we investigate the thermalization process of a spin chain due to interaction with the environment. First, we present a review on the concept of quantum correlation, beginning with the first ideas on non-locality, and leading to the measure of quantum correlations called Quantum Discord. Afterwards, we study the dynamics of the quantum correlations between two non-interacting qubits coupled to Markovian and non- Markovian thermal reservoirs. In the context of spin chains, we investigate the behavior of quantum correlations at finite temperatures, starting with a system composed of two interacting spins, described by XYZ model, in order to generalize this study to the case of infinite unidimensional spin chains, described by XY and XXZ models. In this context, we investigate the relationship between quantum correlations and quantum phase transitions present in these two models. We conclude this thesis with a study of the thermalization process of two interacting spins weakly coupled to independent bosonic thermal reservoirs, or to a single collective reservoir, besides presenting some results for larger systems, composed of an arbitrary number of spins.

No. of bitstreams: 1 6362.pdf: 1897034 bytes, checksum: c83efb3252adeb24e85652c3a2f8240c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-08-26 / Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos / We are interested in understanding the process of Markovian thermalization in quantum systems when we have one or two qubits interacting with a quantum electromagnetic field mode, using the Rabi model, in situations where there is interaction with a reservoir modeling the environment surrounding the system. This analysis of the thermalization is based on the calculation of the eigenvalues of the Liouvillian of the Markovian master equation. We will focus mainly on situations where there is interaction with independent and collective reservoirs, for cases where the subsystems interact with reservoirs at T=0K and T >0K. We investigate situations where there is no thermalization of the system and how this may influence interesting physical properties, such as the statistical properties of the field in the ultra strong scheme using the theory of input-output and quantum correlations between qubits collectively interacting with Markovian reservoirs.

Intrication de champs quantiques mesoscopiques pour les communications quantiques / Entanglement of mesoscopic quantum fields for quantum communications

Blandino, Rémi 25 March 2013 (has links)
This thesis is concerned with different aspects of quantum information with the continuous variables of quantum states of light. Through the combination of the continuous and discrete descriptions, where the light is either described in terms of quadratures or photons, non-classical quantum states and elementary quantum information protocols have been theoretically studied and experimentally implemented. We have experimentally implemented a quantum superposition of two quasi-classical states of light, a “Schrödinger cat state”, which was used to feed a quantum phase gate. We have analysed the quality of this implementation by using a simple model of the experiment. We have then studied quantum correlations, as captured by the quantum discord, for an important class of states in quantum information. We have compared the precision of our measurements by using the classical and quantum Cramér-Rao bounds. Finally, we have theoretically studied the use of a non-deterministic quantum amplifier in quantum cryptography. This amplifier has the property to amplify quantum states without amplifying their quantum noise. Using this property, we have shown that it is possible to increase the maximum distance of transmission of a secret key, as well as the tolerance to the noise added by the quantum channel.

Corrélations quantiques : une approche de physique statistique / A quantum statistical approach to quantum correlations in many-body systems

Frerot, Irénée 09 October 2017 (has links)
The notion of coherence, intimately related to the notion of wave-particle duality, plays a central role in quantum mechanics. When quantum coherence extends over several particles inside a system, the description in terms of individual objects becomes impossible, due to the development of quantum correlations (or entanglement). In this manuscript, we focus on equilibrium systems, for which we show that coherent fluctuations add up to the fluctuations predicted by thermodynamic identities, valid for classical systems only. In the ground state, coherent fluctuations are the only ones to subsist, an in this case we study their relationship with entanglement entropy. We show in particular that an hypothesis of effective temperature, spatially modulated, captures the structure of entanglement in a many-body system, and we show how this temperature can be reconstructed from usual correlation functions. Our results also enable for a refined understanding of quantum phase transitions. We show in particular that the phase transition between a bosonic Mott insulator and a superfluid gives rise to a singularity of entanglement entropy induced by amplitude fluctuations of the phase of the condensate. We finally identify a coherence length governing the scaling behaviour of coherent fluctuations inside the quantum critical region in the finite-temperature vicinity of a quantum critical point, and open novel perspectives for the metrological advantage offered by the exceptional coherence which develops close to quantum critical points, based on the example of the quantum Ising model.

Berthelette, Sophie 08 1900 (has links)
Quantum information, this intriguing marriage between computer science and physics, is a promising field of research for future technologies as well as a better understanding of our universe. Entanglement is at the very heart of this new way of understanding information. This thesis focuses on quantum correlations that are observed in nature. They have been studied in great detail by, among others, John Bell. More specifically, two non-signaling games, in which these correlations arise, are studied: the CHSH game, which is probably the best-known example of such games, and the magic square pseudotelepathy game. To do so, two points of view will be adopted: probabilistic and algorithmic. The first is motivated by prediction (what could have happened) and the second focuses on the intrinsic information about an object (what happened). Therefore, the concepts of randomness and information are first addressed from Shannon’s point of view (probabilistic approach) and second from Kolmogorov’s point of view (algorithmic approach). Kolmogorov complexity is used to quantify information in a factual way. Furthermore, the particular case in which multiple repetitions of a game are played in parallel in a classical world is considered. The parallel repetition theorem, an important result on the subject proven by Ran Raz, is presented and used in the algorithmic study of the CHSH game and the magic square game.

Dynamics and stability of a Bose-Fermi mixture : counterflow of superfluids and inelastic decay in a strongly interacting gas / Dynamique et stabilité d'un mélange de Bose-Fermi : contre-courant de superfluides et pertes inélastiques dans un gaz fortement corrélé

Laurent, Sébastien 09 October 2017 (has links)
Understanding the effect of interactions in quantum many-body systems presents some of the most compelling challenges in modern physics. Ultracold atoms have emerged as a versatile platform to engineer and investigate these strongly correlated systems. In this thesis, we study the properties of a mixture of Bose and Fermi superfluids with tunable interactions produced using ultracold vapors of ⁷Li and ⁶Li. We first study the hydrodynamic properties of the mixture by creating a counterflow between the superfluids. The relative motion only exhibit dissipation above a critical velocity that we measure in the BEC-BCS crossover. A numerical simulation of counterflowing condensates allows for a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms at play in the dynamics. In particular, this numerical study provides additional evidence that the onset of friction in our experiment is due to the simultaneous generation of elementary excitations in both superfluids. Finally, we consider the inelastic losses that occur via three-body recombination in our cold gases. This few-body process is intimately related to short-distance correlations and is thereby connected to the universal properties of the many-body system. This manifests as the apparition of an unusual dependence on density or temperature in the loss rate when increasing the interactions. We demonstrate this effect in two examples where interactions are resonant: the case of a dilute unitary Bose gas and the one of impurities weakly coupled to a unitary Fermi gas. More generally, our work shows that inelastic losses can be used to probe quantum correlations in a many-body system.
