This study has as its objective to describe the concepts of ration and proportion through everyday situations, seeking to establish matches in the reader’s practical life with mathematics taught in schools by analysis and problem solving. The presented models can be used by teachers and applied in classes of elementary school, and also may be useful to those who wish to comprehend the concepts in order to apply them in mathematical situations which can be solved by the use of these important means. We aimed to develop a detailed study, applied and diversified, of the ratios with the objective of guaranteeing to the reader solid fundaments for its comprehension and to solve proportion problems, known as The Rule of Three and Percentage, through methods which use logical analysis of easy comprehension, even for those who are not familiar with mathematics.

The Effect Of Creative Drama Based Instruction On Seventh Grade Students&#039 / Achievement In Ratio And Proportion Concepts And Attitudes Toward Mathematics

Debreli, Esra 01 June 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of creative drama based instruction on seventh grade students&rsquo / achievement in ratio and proportion concepts and their attitudes toward mathematics. Another purpose of this study was to investigate students&rsquo / self-reported views related to creative drama based instruction. The study was conducted in a public school in K&ouml / rfez-Kocaeli with a total of 58 seventh grade students, lasting 12 lesson hours (three weeks). Thirty of the participants received Creative Drama Based Instruction (CDBI), and twenty-eight received Traditional Instruction (TI). The data were collected through Ratio and Proportion Achievement Test (RPAT), Mathematics Attitude Scale (MAS), and interviews. The RPAT and MAS were administered as both pretest and posttest. In addition, interviews were conducted with the ten randomly selected students. The quantitative analyses were carried out by using One-Way Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with covariate preRPAT and dependent variable postRPAT at the significance level 0.05. Moreover, independent samples t-test was performed on gain scores of MAS. The results of the study indicated that there was a statistically significant mean difference between the students who received creative drama based instruction and traditional instruction in terms of achievement in ratio and proportion concepts and in terms of gain scores of attitudes toward mathematics, in favor of CDBI. Furthermore, according to the interview responses of the experimental group students, significantly better performance of the experimental group students was attributable to the potential of the creative drama based instruction to provide actively involvement, work with friends and collaboratively and providing selfawareness.

Student teachers' experiences in using multiple representations in the teaching of grade 6 proportion word problems : a Namibian case study

Simasiku, Bosman Muyubano January 2013 (has links)
This study investigated the experiences of four participating student teachers in using multiple representative approaches in the teaching of Grade 6 proportion word problems. The multiple representative approaches include the Between Comparison Method, the Within Comparison Method, the Diagrammatic Method, the Table Method, the Graph Method, the Cross-product Method, and the Oral Informal Method. An intervention programme was organised, using workshops where student teachers were prepared to teach Grade 6 proportion word problems using multiple representative approaches. The teaching practice lessons of the four participating student teachers in two primary schools were video recorded, and the focus group interview was conducted at the University Campus. With the exception of the Graph Method and the Cross-product Method, it was revealed that the multiple representative approaches were generally effective in the teaching of Grade 6 proportion word problems. The study further revealed that multiplicative relationships can be explored through using the different individual representative approaches. The study argues that the cross-product method is not the only way to teach Grade 6 proportion word problems. There are multiple representative approaches that should be used in conjunction with each other to enhance the teaching of proportion word problems. Furthermore, this study revealed that a number of challenges were encountered when using multiple representative approaches. The challenges include difficulties with the English language, different and unique abilities of the learners, lack of plotting skills and the lack of proficiency in the learners’ multiplication and division skills. This study made recommendations on the integration of multiple representative approaches in the mathematics education curriculum and textbooks. It further recommended that in-service workshops for teachers and student teachers on the integration of multiple representative approaches in the teaching of Grade 6 proportion word problems should be initiated.

Hodnocení finanční výkonnosti podniku / Evaluation of the Company´s Financial Performance

Drgová, Lenka January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis is focused on an assessment of the financial situation of the company Fatra, a.s. and on comparation with its competitors by selected proportion rations of the financial analyses. Competitors are simillar companies from the Statistical classification of economic activities in the European Community and in Czech Republic throughout the years 2010 - 2014. Literature review dealing with the issue of evaluating financial performance of the company was used as a basis for the theoretical part. The practical part contains calculations of the financial analysis and interpretation of the achieved results with a emphasis on benchmarking. Data for this thesis were obtained from Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Czech Statistical Office and from Amadeus database. The conclusion summarizes findings and results in recommen-dations to improve financial performance.
