Synchronizing IP audio devices to GNSSArvidsson, Per Anders January 2024 (has links)
This study investigates the possible use of GNSS synchronized PTP grandmasters as a general method for synchronizing IP audio equipment. Two relatively low cost GNSS synchronized PTP grandmaster clocks were built and tested in various real world scenarios. Low latency audio streams were sent over internet between GNSS synchronized audio devices via the protocol SRT, Secure Reliable Transport, and the result was compared to using the commercially available service Jamkazam. It was found that the solution with distributed GNSS synchronized IP audio devices worked well over both LAN and WAN, but the specific SRT solution tested was not suited for really low latency usage like NMP, Networked Music Performance. Further studies are needed to find alternate SRT solutions or other protocols for use when very low latency performance is needed. It was also found that the lowest latency possible was not the most desirable latency when used for monitoring mixes in an NMP context. A latency of 15-20 ms was generally the most preferred, indicating monitor mixes for IEM, In Ear Monitoring, might benefit from introducing delays in the signal chain. More studies are needed to investigate this further.

Nearly 300 years before the rise of a ‘Christianized,’ Eastern Roman Empire, generations of inhabitants in the Eastern Mediterranean and Near East had witnessed a considerable variety and evolution of religious thought. As a result of the expansion of Christian sects throughout the Near East and Mediterranean, in 325 CE, Emperor Constantine I convened a theological council to unite his vast kingdom in the East under a single religious creed. While revisions to the text of the first ‘Nicene Creed’ and subsequent councils would be organized, many dissenting factions refused to relinquish their long-held beliefs and traditions. Some of these ‘heterodox’ sects resisted the religious arm of the Empire and concealed their practices while continuing to worship in secrecy. Clues to the subversion of ‘orthodox’ ecclesiastical mandate may still persist in the mosaic programs of extant churches in the Mediterranean and Transjordan. In particular, the general design of mosaics in the Transjordan (e.g., the Petra Church, Petra; the Church of SS. Lot and Procopius, Khirbet al-Mukhayyat; and the Church of SS. Cosmas and Damian, Jerash) are somewhat similar, yet divergent from designs found within churches from the Italian Peninsula (e.g., the Theodorean Basilical Complex, Aquileia; the Church of San Vitale, Ravenna; and the Church of Sant’Apollinare in Classe, Classe). The purpose of this thesis is to use the principles of semiotic theory to re-evaluate the use of symbols and icons within sacred mosaic programs, juxtaposed against the historical and ecclesiastical context surrounding their creation.

La agencia del personaje Michiko a través del cosplay en la novela KimoKawaii (2015) de Enrique PlanasPelaez Sagastegui, Elizabeth 17 April 2023 (has links)
KimoKawaii (2015) es la primera novela peruana que trata la influencia de la
cultura popular japonesa en la construcción de la identidad y agencia de los
jóvenes locales. Narra la historia de Michiko, quien, durante la toma y liberación
de la embajada de Japón (1996-1997) recreada en la novela, se reapropia de
roles de género japoneses, como la lolita, la chica loli y la chica mágica, para
realizar su propio disfraz (cosplay) o estética basada en dichas identidades, acto
que empezó a popularizarse en la década de los noventa entre los seguidores
de la historieta japonesa (manga) y su animación (anime) en el Perú y el mundo.
Michiko ejerce la agencia adquirida al crear su cosplay, seduciendo a un
periodista cultural, una practicante de la misma profesión y un dibujante de
historieta, e incorporándolos al mundo manga que ella quiere crear y habitar. Su
mundo colapsa en los dos finales que pertenecen a las dos narraciones
conectadas en la misma novela: una que se centra en la historia de Michiko en
Perú (capítulos titulados, que representan en la ficción a la Lima de 1997), y otro
en la historia de ella junto a los demás personajes en Tokio (capítulos sin título,
que representan al Tokio de 1997), y colapsa porque la agencia que lo sostenía
pierde su poder.
Dado estos desenlaces, cabe preguntarse por qué el poder que su cosplay le
permitía ejercer para construir su mundo manga termina por colapsar. Para
responder a esta pregunta, se revisarán las normas sociales que inscribe la lolita,
la chica loli y la chica mágica a partir de la vestimenta y la performatividad de
género en Japón. Así también, se estudiará el poder que la protagonista
reconoce como agencia y cómo lo performa a fin de demostrar, en el marco socio
histórico implícito de la novela, si es que dicho poder responde a una agencia
verdadera que la libera de una posición de subalternidad. Finalmente, se
describirá de qué manera el cosplay de Michiko le permite construir un mundo
manga que trasviste (y reemplaza) la realidad peruana (representada en la
novela) ubicada entre el año 1996 y 1997, y por qué no tiene el mismo poder en
la tierra de sus fantasías manga: Japón.

This thesis aims to study the commercial mechanism of Ravenna in the Late Antiquity from the point of view of the amount, type and provenance of the imported stone artefacts (fragments of architectural decoration, revetments slabs, opus sectile, sarcophagi), based on the study of archaeological material from the site of the basilica and the monastery of San Severo in Classe (Ravenna). Ravenna represented an important administrative and cultural center in the 5th and 6th century, connecting western and eastern artistic influences and focusing herself on trade and production. Determination of the stone artefacts from the San Severo locality was principally based on the archaeometric methods and on the combination of archaeologic and geologic approach as well. Specific archaeometric methods (macroscopic, geochemical and mineralogical-petrographic analyses) together with a quantitative evaluation were applied. Many scientific works, dedicated till this time to the art history of late antique Ravenna and dealing also the argument of ravennate "marbles" presumed the prevailing provenance from Proconnesos and usual commercial relations between Ravenna and Constantinople as well.
