Magie v epoše Karla IV. a jeho dědiců / The Magic in the era of Charles IV. and his heirs

Vozár, Zdenko January 2013 (has links)
The question of magic in the later middle ages has a rather long tradition in the Bohemian historical milieu in the argument over the manuscripts of Kues. However, it is only one of the very aspects of the subject, and others were until now more or less neglected. Therefore I would like to bring a new fresh perspective and clearly define the field of research into its dynamic complexity. My argument is composed from three integrally interconnected parts. Firstly, I should bring forward the question: What is magic? The exact definition of this word is still not agreed upon despite the grand effort of scholars not only from the last decades. By examination of the word "magic" I have to have as a condition a very good referential background for it. With the second question, I concentrate on diachronic of the historical context and its dynamics of the transfer and contra-transfer of learned magic in Bohemia. At last, I am taking into account the close investigation of the written sources and the overall dynamics of the bigger European picture of the period. The main argument proposed by this thesis, is that the used sources are predating the Kues manuscript and that in the 14th century the unprecedented growth of the artistic faculty of the Prague university, as one of the first, brought into play the...

Vavroušová, Petra January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the reception of Hašek's Švejk in Spain in the 20th century. The theoretical part deals with the phenomenon of indirect translations (it distinguishes between the second-hand translation and the authorial compilative translation), the problematic of metatexts and the reader's reception. The empirical part describes the "adventure" of Hašek's Švejk in the Czech and German milieu and focuses on the reception of the translations by A. Janés (1980) and M. Zgustová (2008) in Spain. Then, an analysis of censorship reports dedicated to Švejk and critical reviews of Spanish translations of this book and a short commentary of interviews with the two translators and editors follow. As a methodological instrument for the micro-textual contrastive analysis of selected passages of Hašek's novel was used the Popovič's (1975, 1983) typology of stylistic shifts and changes in the translation. Key words: Švejk, Spain, indirect translations, mediating text, reception, censorship, reviews, micro-textual contrastive analysis, Zgustová, Janés

Řeč obrazů (Obraz autora jako paratext v perspektivě kulturního transferu) / The Language of Images (The Image of an Author as a Paratextual Phenomenon in Cultural Transfer)

Králíková, Andrea January 2014 (has links)
This PhD. Thesis "The Language of Images (The Image of an Author as a Paratextual Phenomenon in Cultural Transfer)" deals with the teoretical questions of the notion "The Image of an Author" and the way the term is constituted and its conections to a specific cultural space in the frame of cultural transfer. The Image of the Author is interpreted as a paratextual phenomenon which is on the one hand created through review acceptance and medial discurs in the cultural space, and on the other hand has influence on the way the text is accepted by the reader. The question of the image of an author is approached in the context of other paratextual elements, paratexts are from our point of view read as cultural (semantic) units, which participace on semiotic space of culture. The first three chapters form the teoretical basis of the thesis and focus on the theme of cultural transfer and paratexts. The core of the thesis is in its second part which presents four case studies about four different author's types in contemporary Czech literature (Jáchym Topol, Petra Hůlová, Jaroslav Rudiš, Miloš Urban). Each case study analyses the main points of their reception, the speech of the medial discourse and the way of their presentation and self-presentation. A comparison with distinc attributes of reception in...

Šťastná, Zuzana January 2016 (has links)

The first chapter gives a brief overview of the historical changes in the appreciation of Donneʼs poetry and, drawing on a range of Donnean literature, attempts to define the main features of his poetics. The second chapter traces the gradual building of an awareness of Donneʼs poetry among Czech readers through translations, translation paratexts and references in the works of Czech literary scholars. It introduces the Czech translators of Donne and discusses their motives for translating his work where these could be ascertained. The first part of Chapter 3 describes the method used in analyzing the Czech translations. It introduces the model of translation criticism presented by Antoine Berman in his analysis of French Donnean translations (Pour une critique des traductions: John Donne, 1995) and comments on its application in the study of the Czech translations. The second part sums up the findings of two...
