The Mind of The Entrepreneur: Exploring Lived Experiences

2015 October 1900 (has links)
This research sought to examine the lived experiences and minds of entrepreneurs who had influenced society in ways beyond the domain of the private sector. An entrepreneur was defined as an individual who pursues opportunity or is driven by the perception of opportunity. It was proffered that a divide exists in our understanding of an entrepreneur—as person—and an entrepreneur—as business starter. To a great extent, this divide has limited exploration of the connections and benefits that entrepreneurial thinking might bring to education. This was a qualitative and interpretivist study based on interviews with a purposive sample of entrepreneurs who have had a major influence in private, public, and more generally in the plural sectors in and around Canada. Nine entrepreneurs were invited to tell their life stories, to provide their perceptions of how entrepreneurs think and to relate how they believed they had developed their skills. Using in-depth interviews, the researcher was able to discover, in part, the essence of how these entrepreneurs thought, how they made decisions, and how they viewed themselves and their world. The findings and insights add to the growing body of literature on entrepreneurship. The researcher argued that the dissertation had given light to the lived experience of entrepreneurs. Understanding how these persons had become entrepreneurial and how they had recognized opportunities for their own mentorship were addressed by the research. How these entrepreneurs thought, their motivations, and interests, as well as how they perceived their role in the world provided valuable insights, especially as one seeks to understand how to cultivate or develop, nurture and encourage entrepreneurs, and to foster entrepreneurial behaviour throughout the education sector. The exploratory insights from these rich interviews serve to further foster fruitful conversations on potential alignments between the ways and thinking of entrepreneurs and educational systems.

No. of bitstreams: 1 DissHM.pdf: 7239574 bytes, checksum: ae362c35b36e27d4096f64d4e04665e5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-09-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) / The importance of the development of sequences that are arithmetic progressions in the high school was observed in learning situations which the students could investigate and identify patterns in numerical and geometric sequences, building the algebraic language to describe them. This work contributes for the student to build the idea of algebra as language to express irregularities, that is one of the proposed issues by the National Curricular Parameters (PCNs) for the math teaching in the fourth cycle of high school, which contrasts, nowadays, with the scarcity of activities involving observed arithmetic progressions in at least twelve years of experience as a math teacher in these cycles. The elaboration of a teaching product, in the way of activity sheets that, through the recognizing of numerical and geometric patterns, takes the student to the comprehension of the concept of arithmetic progression which could be tested through the application of these activity sheets in two classrooms of the ninth year of high school in a public municipally school. The obtained results of these applications were analyzed and compared to the previous analyzes in raised hypothesis during the elaboration of the activity sheets, using, as investigation methodology, the Didactic Engineering. The students did the activities in groups of two or three, were well motivated and participated as principal character during the application of all steps proposed in the paper, which guaranteed the good development of the activity. In according to the evaluation learning, the students reaching the proposed goals and noting that the produced teaching material works. It is believed that the elaborated material can be useful for other teachers who want to develop, in their classes, arithmetic progressions through the recognizing of patterns, adapting it to the reality of their classrooms. This work contributes hugely to the author, bringing a big professional evolution that starts with the issue choice, continued in the elaboration of the didactic sequence and the application of the activity sheets and finished with the reflection of what have been done and is registered here.

Mesures de similarité distributionnelle asymétrique pour la détection de l’implication textuelle par généralité / Asymmetric Distributional Similarity Measures to Recognize Textual Entailment by Generality

Pais, Sebastião 06 December 2013 (has links)
Textual Entailment aims at capturing major semantic inference needs across applications in Natural Language Processing. Since 2005, in the Textual Entailment recognition (RTE) task, systems are asked to automatically judge whether the meaning of a portion of text, the Text - T, entails the meaning of another text, the Hypothesis - H. This thesis we focus a particular case of entailment, entailment by generality. For us, there are various types of implication, we introduce the paradigm of Textual Entailment by Generality, which can be defined as the entailment from a specific sentence towards a more general sentence, in this context, the Text T entailment Hypothesis H, because H is more general than T. We propose methods unsupervised language-independent for Recognizing Textual Entailment by Generality, for this we present an Informative Asymmetric Measure called the Simplified Asymmetric InfoSimba, which we combine with different asymmetric association measures to recognizingthe specific case of Textual Entailment by Generality. This thesis, we introduce the new concept of implication, implications by generality, in consequence, the new concept of recognition implications by generality, a new direction of research in Natural Language Processing.

Fourdain, Solène 12 1900 (has links)
The present study aims to create a web-based platform that would examine individual differences in face processing strategies in different categorization tasks. The purpose of this platform is to collect data from geographically dispersed participants with variable face recognition abilities. Indeed, many studies have shown that there is high variability in the spectrum of face recognition ability, ranging from developmental prosopagnosia (Duchaine & Susilo, 2013), a disorder of face recognition in the absence of brain damage, to super-recognizers, individuals with extraordinary face recognition ability (Russell, Duchaine & Nakayama, 2009). Between these extremes, people vary substantially in their ability to recognize faces. To demonstrate the reliability of creating such a platform for individuals of widely varying abilities, we adapted a recognition task of the identity of famous faces using the Bubbles method (Gosselin & Schyns, 2001) and recruited 12 control subjects and a subject with developmental prosopagnosia. We were able to highlight the importance of the eyes and the mouth in face identification. The best observers seem mostly to use the left side of the face (left eye and the left side of the mouth).

Elektronický modul pro akustickou detekci / Electronic module for acoustic detection

Maršál, Martin January 2016 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the design and implementation of an electronic module for acoustic detection. The module has the task of detecting a predetermined acoustic signals through them learned classification model. The module is used mainly for security purposes. To identify and classify the proposed model using machine learning techniques. Given the possibility of retraining for a different set of sounds, the module becomes a universal sound detector. With acoustic sound using the digital MEMS microphone, for which it is designed and implemented conversion filter. The resulting system is implemented into firmware microcontroller with real time operating system. The various functions of the system are realized with regard to the possible optimization (less powerful MCU or battery power). The module transmits the detection results of the master station via Ethernet network. In the case of multiple modules connected to the network to create a distributed system, which is designed for precise time synchronization using PTP protocol defined by the IEEE-1588 standard.
