Teenage mothers’ reflections of their unintended, repeat pregnanciesJohnstone, Muriel January 2013 (has links)
Masters of Art / Globally, teenage pregnancy remains a disturbing phenomenon which impacts on the lives of teenagers, their families and society as a whole. Numerous attempts at addressing the problem have seen a decline in fertility rates but agreement still exists that the incidence of young girls bearing children is unacceptably high. Studies conducted over the years have emphasised both the causes and consequences of teenage births. Many studies too have explored the benefits of preventative strategies. Yet, despite all this, teenage pregnancy remains a cause for concern with many teenage girls remaining sexually active after a first pregnancy, and exposing themselves to subsequent pregnancies and births. This study was focused on teenage girls who had experienced unintended repeat pregnancies. Through the research a deeper understanding of the meanings that female teenagers ascribe to repeat pregnancies, were sought. A sample group of teenage mothers were allowed to take a step back from their experience of the repeat pregnancy; to think deeply about the experience, and to reflect on what they had learnt and how it has impacted on their current lives. The researcher employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive, explorative design in order to obtain a rich description of the experiences of teenage mothers who have been through a repeat pregnancy. The goal of the study was to explore and describe the reflections of these teenage mothers who had experienced unintended, repeat pregnancies. Data was obtained through semi-structured individual interviews where an interview guide was used. The data was analysed according to the steps outlined by Creswell (2009). Findings were noted and recommendations made. These recommendations are designed for role-players involved with teenagers and youth in general. Emphasis was placed on recommendations to professionals, like educators, healthcare workers and social workers who are at the coalface of dealing with teenagers who engage in sexual activity. Finally, recommendations for further research were made.

Reflections: Light and Structure in Religious ArchitectureRussell, Paul Floyd 14 September 2005 (has links)
Light is the most sacred phenomenon and the presence of it in a place of worship is the greatest manifestation of God himself. Man can manufacture all the building materials needed to errect the greatest of structures, but only God can fill it with the light of the sun and make the materials come alive. Through the interplay of light and structure the building can seem to be alive. Through the proper execution of structure and material the building can sculpt light and define the time of day and season of year. This then became the genesis of the project; to sculpt light through natural materials and structure in order to bring glory to the creator and provide a sacred retreat for the weary, a rich interplay of light and material coming together to create a worshipful experience. / Master of Architecture

Trilinear ProjectionVallance, Scott, scottvallance@internode.on.net January 2005 (has links)
In computer graphics a projection describes the mapping of scene geometry to the screen. While linear projections such as perspective and orthographic projection are common, increasing applications are being found for nonlinear projections, which do not necessarily map straight lines in the scene to straight lines on the screen. Nonlinear projections occur in reflections and refractions on curved surfaces, in art, and in visualisation.
This thesis presents a new nonlinear projection technique called a trilinear projection that is based on the trilinear interpolation of surface normals used in Phong shading. Trilinear projections can be combined to represent more complicated nonlinear projections. Nonlinear projections have previously been implemented with ray tracing, where rays are generated by the nonlinear projections and traced into the scene. However for performance reasons, most current graphics software uses scanline rendering, where a scene point is imaged on a screen as a function of the projection parameters. The techniques developed in this thesis are of this nature.
This thesis presents several algorithms used in trilinear projection:
1. An algorithm to analytically determine which screen locations image a given scene point.
2. An algorithm that correctly connects projected vertices. Each scene point may be imaged multiple times, which means a projected scene triangle may form from one to four different shapes of from two to nine vertices. Once connected, the projected shapes may be rendered with standard scanline algorithms.
3. An algorithm to more accurately render the curved edges between projected vertices.
4. A scene-space edge-clipping algorithm that handles continuity issues for projected shapes across composite projections.
The trilinear projection technique is demonstrated in two different application areas: visualisation, and reflections and refractions. Specifically, various nonlinear projections that are congruent with pre-existing visualisation techniques are implemented with trilinear projections and a method for approximating the reflections and refractions on curved surfaces with trilinear projections is presented. Finally, the performance characteristics of the trilinear projection is explored over various parameter ranges and compared with a naive ray tracing approach.

Vårdpersonals upplevelser och erfarenheter av att utföra tvångsåtgärder inom sluten psykiatrisk tvångsvård : En litteraturstudieAndersson, Louise, Lindmark, Erica January 2013 (has links)
Background: The adult inpatient psychiatric care is regulated by law and allows certain amount of coercion, most commonly restraint, forced medication and seclusion. To be treated according to this law you need to suffer from a serious mental disorder, oppose to the care and have an indispensable need of care. Many studies describe patients experiences to be treated with coercion but few about health care workers experiences. Aim: To describe health care workers experiences of performing coercion in psychiatric compulsory care. Method: A literature review was made and eight articles is the basis for the result. Results: From the articles used inthis study four themes were created. These are coercions impact on relations, health care workers feelings during coercion, coercion as a necessary evil and health care workers need for reflection. The themes are presented as headlines in the result. Conclusion: To use coercive measures brings out many different feelings among health care workers. There are both positive and negative aspects about coercive measures, but not enough support and time for reflection for the health care workers that execute them. The health care workers needto be acknowledged and feel that they have made the right decision and that they used coercion as a last resort. The result shows that there is a need for reflection and support among health care workers.

The study of Taiwan, Japan and Korea drama production and marketing strategiesChuang, Tun-chun 14 February 2011 (has links)
As is known to everyone, the popularity of soap drama breakthroughs the markets
overseas, promoting the atmosphere of self-made soap drama indirectly. Many
creators would like to join in the manufacture of soap drama, and it is believed that we
can improvement the quality of the products. On the other hand, the manufacturing
companines and the operators should make the integrated-strategy of production and
marketing.
To reform the development of Taiwan soap drama, first of all, we must enrich the
quality and output of it, enhance the concept of integrated marketing and production,
and produce requirement-oriented products. It is believed that we can learn from the
implementation of South Korea's Valuation System to encourage corporations to join
in television industry investment, finding funds, being independent. The government
should guide enterprises to investment in television industry.
The conclusion of this study are presented as follows:
1. Make use of the ability of Soap drama to create economic value.
2. Find some ways to seek funds and strengthen cross-border cooperation in Soap
drama¡¦s producting.
3. Get rid of the reorganization from foreign country cartoons, and accumulate native
experience of the manuscript creations.

Zobrazování pokřivených zrcadel / Rendering of Nonplanar MirrosČíž, Miloslav January 2017 (has links)
This work deals with the problem of accurately rendering mirror reflections on curved surfaces in real-time. While planar mirrors do not pose a problem in this area, non-planar surfaces are nowadays rendered mostly using environment mapping, which is a method of approximating the reflections well enough for the human eye. However, this approach may not be suitable for applications such as CAD systems. Accurate mirror reflections can be rendered with ray tracing methods, but not in real-time and therefore without offering interactivity. This work examines existing approaches to the problem and proposes a new algorithm for computing accurate mirror reflections in real-time using accelerated searching for intersections with depth profile stored in cubemap textures. This algorithm has been implemented using OpenGL and tested on different platforms.

The White Canvas. A lighting proposal for the KTH Library HallNiño Bogoya, Diana Andrea January 2023 (has links)
Consolidating a library within the old patio of a building that for more than 100 years has undergone constant transformation is a challenge. Putting a roof over an area that was clearly defined to be open and under it a large library is a great opportunity. Due to its large area, a discussion was opened about implementing light on the surface of the ceiling, in a subtle and abstract way, aligned with the environmental parameters of the city. The white ceiling that appears to be suspended but is supported by large windows then became a White canvas for a play of lights brought on by daylight during the day and electric light for the long hours of darkness. Through qualitative and quantitative methods such as meetings, observations and surveys, the perception of the users was evaluated, and after tests, models and digital analysis, an intervention was defined on one of its facades that allows that ceiling to be reconnected with the natural and especially with the light. Exploring with elements such as the use of color or the management of reflections results in simple elements that can also be implemented from the architectural design, as support for lighting design.
