Development of a comprehensive reporting system for a school reform organization: The Accelerated Schools Project

Stephens, Jennifer Anne 12 April 2006 (has links)
Given the conflicting research results on the effectiveness of whole-school reform models (Nunnery, 1998; Stringfield & Herman, 1997; American Institutes for Research, 1999; U.S. Department of Education, 2004), there is a need to focus on the evaluation procedures of whole-school reform organizations. Because the ultimate goal is to improve school performance, it should also be a goal of each whole-school reform organization to design a comprehensive data collection system to evaluate each school’s performance. A comprehensive reporting system was developed for a school reform organization, the Accelerated Schools Project (ASP). Using the steps of the research and development process recommended by Borg and Gall (1989), this study: (a) developed a theoretical framework for the reporting system, (b) identified data that should be collected in the reporting system, (c) performed a field test with an expert panel of educational professionals, (d) developed a preliminary form of the reporting system, (e) performed a main field test with principals and coaches in the ASP network, (f) reported field test results, (g) revised the preliminary reporting system, (h) developed a website for the reporting system, and (i) provided recommendations for the completion, dissemination and implementation of the system in accelerated schools across the nation. This study has important implications for both the ASP community and for the entire whole-school reform community. For the ASP community, the reporting system could be used: (a) to collect data in all accelerated schools across the nation (b) as a longitudinal database of information to monitor data on each ASP school, and (c) to generate school summary reports on ASP schools. These data will assist researchers in measuring the effectiveness of the ASP model on student achievement and other important variables. For the whole-school reform community, the method used in this study could be replicated in other school reform organizations to develop a comprehensive reporting system. By providing consistent data for school reform organizations to evaluate the impact of their models on students and schools, educational researchers will be better equipped to understand each model’s impact, and thus will better understand the diverse research results on school reform effectiveness.

Higher Education and Middle Class

Hu, Ming-wei 27 July 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the relationship between middle class and higher education through higher education policy. While the society gradually form the social class, each of them will try to obtain as much resource as they could. However, most of the resource is controlled by the upper class, which, due to the incapable of self-improvement, will eventually cause the conflict between different classes. In order to prevent the class struggle and conflict, and to maintain the social harmonious, the stable existence of Social Mobility is critical and important. And the easiest way for lower class to flow upward, is the education. After the declare end of the marshal law, the main purpose of education innovation in our country, is to expand the chance for people to receive higher education, raise the standard of knowledge, and increase the national competitiveness. However, while fixing all the old issue by the execution of the innovated policy, the upcoming problems have already risen. After the KMT re-achieve the presidency, the Exective Yuan shows the determination of restrain depression by the announcement of forming firm and solid middle class. If the indispensable way of social flow, education, is malfunctioning, the forming is incapable as well. It¡¦s obviously that the importance and requirement of education is raised, and the higher education is also widespread. However, does higher education in our country play it¡¦s role of promoting social flow? Does the consequence of successively education reform cause positive (or even negative) impact on the social mobility? These are the factors that this thesis wants to investigate.

The Decision-Making Model of Primary Economic Policies in China¡GFrom Mao Tse¡Vtung to Hu Chin-tao

-Cherng, Syh 02 September 2009 (has links)
Over the last sixty years, China has gone from Soviet¡¦s centrally planned economy in the Mao Era to Deng Xiao Ping¡¦s economic reform. It has evolved from extreme poverty to rapid economic growth, from equality to inequality and from life improvement to social instability. There might be cause and effect which underlie the process. This study adopts historical research approach and systematic research method to explore the cause and effect which underlie the overall development of the major economic policy-making in the four eras: Planned economy by Mao Ze Dong, reform and openness by Deng Xiao Ping, macroeconomic control by Jiang Ze Min and rural reconstruction by Hu Jin Tao. The results of this study include the following findings: Firstly, from Mao Ze Dong to Hu Jin Tao era there might be cause and effect which exist among the making of China¡¦s major economic policies. Due to the internal revolt and foreign invasion Mao Ze Dong adopted planned economy which resulted in China¡¦s extreme economic poverty. Deng Xiao Ping¡¦s reform and openness for economic development caused severe inflation. Jiang Ze Min¡¦s macroeconomic control was intended to contain the inflation. Subsequently, Jiang¡¦s policy brought about the withering away of the countryside which in turn led to Hu Jin Tao¡¦s rural reconstruction. Secondly, the logic of Chinese leaders¡¦ thinking and personalities have had significant influence on their economic policy-making, however, the effect of ideology has diminished over time. Without the leaderships of strongmen like Mao and Deng, China is forced to systemize its major economic decisions. Hu is now dealing with the problems of reform and openness which have arisen over the last thirty years. Whether he can succeed in dealing with the issues concerning agriculture, countryside, farmers and inflation still remains to be seen. The fifth generation leaderships in the future will be in a position where ¡§the revolution has not yet succeeded and comrades must continue to strife.¡¨ Thirdly, China¡¦s economic policies are influenced by the political environment that its leaders face both back home and abroad. This thesis investigates and grasps the overall system from a causationism perspective which analyzes the political and economic relations behind China¡¦s major economic policy-making. This study has significant reference value for the academia to explore the process of China¡¦s local economic policy-making.

The Conception, Structure and Change of Middle-Class ¡GA Study of Public Employment Regime in Taiwan

Huang, Mei-lan 29 January 2010 (has links)
To the progress of social development, the middle-class has the ability to maintain the stable of social order development and the promotion of rational revolution. Among them, the location of labor is an important influential factor to the structure and change of classes. After the social change like industrialization and land reform, the middle-class in Taiwan appeared highly developed. However, with the circulation of the global capital, the employment position of labor markets had a division into two opposing extremes, which had cause the danger and anxiety among the middle-class. In this study, we take the view point of public employment regime to discuss how the State using the administrative power to stimulate labor, and how did they enforce social reform from the middle-class to reduce the opposition and confliction among classes. First, we take an observation on the long term Taiwan employment situation transition. We found out that, in order to promote the middle-class, we should place importance on the individual employment problems to provide education and employment training courses to reduce the long term unemployment. Second, we take the operation of the ¡¥short term employment promotion project¡¦ for consideration. We realized that in order to positively promote labor. We should think over the ¡¥lawful long term employment service¡¦ to enforce the employment service ability by ensuring the accountability and responsibility of administration departments by law; guarantee the occupation training; and enforce the ability of employment service department. Our suggestion is that, we should face squarely on the roles of Taiwan's middle-classes played on the autonomy and public sphere, and focus on the moderate social forces they had to avoid confliction and opposition to establish harmonious and mutually beneficial society.

Lissabonfördraget : Effektivare EU efter reformen?

Babil, Nermin January 2010 (has links)
