A strategy study to regenerate local development by rural tourism

Cheng, Hsin-Yi 13 July 2005 (has links)
According to the Statistics from Council of Agriculture in 2005, the proportion that agriculture occupied in the industrial structure of Taiwan has already dropped to 1.5%. After Taiwan joined the World Trade Organization in 2002, the government constructively attempted to encourage the farmers to transform to the suppliers of the recreation services. It¡¦s promoted the developed types of rural tourism changes from the early orchards and leisure farms to combine closely with local characteristics. The study aims to investigate the situations of rural tourism in Taiwan and to develop the workable strategies to revive the local economy. Use in-deep interview and the survey of questionnaire in Delphi method to collect the opinions from the industrial businessmen, government officials and academic experts. It has found that economical, social, and environmental dimensions obviously affect rural tourism in reviving local development. Furthermore, the strategies of rural tourism to regenerate local development could be divided into short-term and long-term strategy. For short-term strategy, there six recommends of the government are as followed, amending legislative laws and policies, adequately improving infrastructures, providing in-job training, and so on. And there are three about rural tourism suppliers. They are promoting the uniqueness rural resources, participating in communities¡¦ development, and upgrading the qualities of service. For long-term strategies, experts suggest the government in three dimensions, and four for the rural tourism suppliers. In conclusion, rural tourism is one of the most popular domestic recreation activities. In the future, the participations from business, governments, residents, and tourists are all very important to achieve the sustainable management goals. It¡¦s expected that development of Taiwan rural tourism could attract international tourists and improve the Taiwan¡¦s visibility in the international tourism market.

Investigation of the effect of early intracoronary autologous bone marrow cell infusion in the management and treatment of acute myocardial infarction

Hamshere, Stephen January 2017 (has links)
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a complex combination of multiple conditions. The majority of deaths within CVD include heart attacks and strokes caused by atherosclerotic disease. The pathophysiological process for atherosclerotic disease occurs within the endothelial lining of the vessels of the body. This prolonged process occurs when cholesterol deposits form irregularity in luminal flow resulting in decreased blood flow and ischaemia. This unstable cholesterol plaque can rupture resulting in clot formation and artery occlusion. Within this thesis I aim to show background to the relevant pathophysiology of ischaemic heart disease (IHD) with the main emphasis on acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the history of its therapy to current therapy. I will discuss the theorised role of stem cell therapy within animal models and previous clinical trials within regenerative medicine and AMI. I will describe and discuss the method and the results of the REGENERATE-AMI trial (Clintrial.gov: NCT00765453), which will include the safety and efficiency of the therapy, and the possible cytokine mechanism by which this therapy may exert it effect. Additionally I will describe the potential for assessing myocardial oedema using 3-slice T2-STIR short axis stack imaging post AMI compared to the conventional 10-slice T2-STIR technique to assess its feasibility and clinical similarity to assess its use as a tool in translational research.

The development of a disruptive innovation response framework within the South African insurance context: adapt, regenerate, transcend (Art)

Amos, Shereen 22 December 2020 (has links)
Companies, nations, governments and multilateral organisations are each in their context recognising that 20th-century approaches to innovation and competitiveness are no longer relevant or effective – with whole industries and economies challenged by the fastmoving and disruptive forces of 21st-century technologies that enable unprecedented innovative capability. The rate and scale of change and disruption calls for innovation thinking more suited to a world highly connected and networked and rapidly redefined by global digital architecture and alternative forms of value exchange, value creation and capture enabled through networks, platforms, and innovation ecosystems. For a mature industry to navigate potential disruption on this scale and possibly direct disruptive innovation of its own, will require a dramatic departure from innovation and business as usual. Christensen (1997) posits that disruptive innovation is the only way for incumbents to maintain market leadership and secure future growth. So how should mature firms respond to disruption, and which strategies are effective to become disruptive too? I undertake a grounded theory study into how specifically, the insurance industry (life and health), navigates disruptive influence and plans to become disruptive too. My analysis of the literature and the research findings has led to the development of an Adapt, Regenerate, Transcend response strategy framework, the ART framework, which describes these three broad response strategies and a further set of sub-strategies, that answer the question of how firms respond to disruptive influence and become disruptive too. The ART framework is my contribution to the work on disruptive innovation response strategies. The framework shows how incumbents can apply one or more of these three broad strategies to suit their objectives. The adapt response strategy, a short-term, defensive or opportunistic strategy, aims to extend lifecycles and fend off disruptive challenges. The regenerate response strategy is an expansive, increasingly inclusive, and transformative hybrid strategy that seeks to extend lifecycles and pursue new growth opportunities that might transform the core business over time to become disruptive too. The transcend response strategy is an original and disruptive strategy where the lead firm partners to reframe and reinvent an industry through a collectively directed value proposition that creates an entirely new playing field. Using the ART framework, I also show how disruptive innovation is an inclusive innovation strategy and how the framework applies to and is of use in the context of inclusive and sustainable innovation. In doing so, a new meta-innovation concept of generative innovation emerges, which the framework begins to describe broadly and which I propose as an area of future research.

The thesis is based in a constructed light vehicle that must be improved by adding a hydraulic energy recovery system. This vehicle named as TrecoLiTH, participated in the Formula Electric and Hybrid competition (Formula EHI) 2009 in Italy -Rome- and won several awards.

This system consists in two hydraulic motors hub mounted which are used to store fluid at high pressure in an accumulator when braking. Through a valve the pressure will flow from the high pressure accumulator to the low pressure one, and consequently the vehicle will get extra acceleration.

This thesis consists in finishing the assembly and testing it, as the main idea was already thought and some of the necessary parts were acquired before. Firstly, a quick overview of the bike is done and the current state of it at the end of the thesis is discussed. After that, the mechanism used to actuate the system is developed and explained, with which some CAD software was used to design and make some FEA. Straight afterwards the work focused on the tests and its development. A quick discussion about what tests should be done, the preparations and also the way that some measurements were done is commented. In order to do these measurements a data acquisition device and some software to deal with it was used.

Thereupon, calculations to know if the system auto-compensates the weight added, causing more rolling resistance, and the oil frictions are done. In this part the performance and reliability of the system is discussed, as well as the feelings of the driver. Finally, improvements and possible modifications are listed with the aim of upgrade the vehicle, the system and the way of work.

RECLAIMING KIRUNA : Ecological reclamation of post-exhaustion Kiruna mine

ANAND, DIKSHA January 2020 (has links)
In brownfield regeneration models, extraction sites are often left out of the question because of degradation, severe contamination, or economic viability and are usually abandoned, after the minimal remediations. These exhaustions not only impact the environment and economy in spatial relations but also influence the growth of the communities cultured by them. With millions of abandoned sites around the globe, there is a demand for building a vision that develops - the ideas of emergence and diversification over time and space, as a base framework for similar towns and communities before they disappear. Underpinning the urgent need and evolving theme of ecologies, 'Reclaiming Kiruna' is an investigation of a vision for a post-exhaustion site of Kiruna mine, which is the world's largest underground mine, by developing landscape ecologies in the present framework that builds and adapts with time and space before the mine gets exhausted. The project reveals the concept of landscape as an amalgamation of production and recreation ecologies, synergizing with the existing potentials of nature, resources, and society. The work focuses on translating the knowns and unknowns of three time periods, synced with proposed plans of the New Kiruna settlement area, through programs of care and thinking that involve, engage, and encourage people (of Kiruna) in redefining the image of Kiruna beyond just a mine. The project unfolds new prospects offered by planned urban transformations, mining systems, and changing climate, which are integrated into building new economies and relations. The project is limited by the uncertainty of the future but attempts to initiate a dialogue in finding new positions as urban designers to contest with the present frameworks in building alternatives of change and novelty, for a sustainable future.

Reconnect, restore, regenerate : creating restorative environments by regenerating the human-nature connection

Witthuhn, Lucille 09 December 2013 (has links)
The dissertation investigates how non-profit organisations (NPOs) can function more efficiently by sharing resources and services. The design responds with the strategy of service integration, by transforming the facilities of POPUP, a single NPO, into a shared services hub for multiple NPOs. POPUP is a People Upliftment Programme in Salvokop, Pretoria, and serves the under-privileged communities of Pretoria with skills development courses. The dissertation aims to create restorative environments for these students and explores the theoretical approaches of regenerative design, biophilic design and restorative environmental design. The premise of the investigation is that humanity has an inherent inclination towards nature and that a healthy human-nature connection enables the healing process. Furthermore, the dissertation follows a contextual approach that responds to the railway heritage significance of Salvokop, the urban condition of disconnection from the Central Business District, as well as the self-restoration of the natural landscape. The study seeks to regenerate the human-nature connection, a manifestation of the connection between the current natural landscape and the urban condition. In this way, restorative environments are created that contribute to the regeneration of people. / Dissertation MArch(Prof)--University of Pretoria, 2014 / Architecture / MArch(Prof) / Unrestricted
