According to the monopolistic logic that bases the social and economical process, society understakes the environment wich we are daily exposed to Nova Alta Paulista, located in the farwest of the state of São Paulo, was developed in the mid of the twentieth century, together with the urban industrialization on course in the metropolitan area in state control. External factors, such as the international conjuncture, besides the governmentþs move inspired by the national development trend, combined with internal factors, such as certain characteristics of the environment, local policies, and the predominance of a resistant conception to the consolidation of regional debates, contributed to a minor socioeconomical situation in the context of the state. Current affairs are leading us to important changes on environmental and territorial organization under the tendency to renewable sources of energy. Such fact demands reflection and study on its impact over development in the region. In this study, the objectives were to analyse how the socioeconomical development of Nova Alta Paulista took place to understand its current face; to examine the adjustment to the idea of a suppressed region to designate its socioeconomical and political cultural characteristics; to make use of a new approach that suprpasses the conception of territory, conceiving it as a social development which results from the conception of region to a territorial notion; to verify If the idea of regional development, named endogeneous development, will be able to territorialize, beginning with the socioeconomical actions under taken by local parties and segments in conflict with current hegemonical powers... Spotlight on the beneficiaries of EU regional funds: A new firm-level dataset

Bachtrögler, Julia, Hammer, Christoph, Reuter, Wolf Heinrich, Schwendinger, Florian 05 1900 (has links) (PDF)
This study introduces a new firm-level dataset containing over two million projects co-funded by the European Union´s (EU) structural and Cohesion funds in 25 EU member states in the multi-annual financial framework 2007-2013. Information on individual beneficiary firms and institutions published by regional authorities is linked with business data from Bureau van Dijk's ORBIS database. Moreover, we show how modern text mining techniques can be used to categorise EU funded projects into fifteen thematic categories proposed by the European Commission. A first analysis of the dataset reveals substantial heterogeneity of beneficiaries and projects across and within countries. While in the majority of lagging regions the largest project expenditure is dedicated to transportation and energy infrastructure, in most other regions the major part is assigned to innovation and technological development as well as business (including SME) support. In an econometric analysis we control for project and firm characteristics and find that the highest single project values are associated with older beneficiary firms that are larger in size. Furthermore, the projects with topmost expenditure are carried out in Dutch and British regions. / Series: Department of Economics Working Paper Series

Vztahy na kraji: explorační studie politicko-administrativních vztahů v krajské veřejné správě / Relations in the Region: exploratory study of political-administrative relations in regional public administration

Zápotocká, Veronika January 2017 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with topic of political-administrative relations in Czech Republic only a little elaborated. The main aim of the thesis is to understand and find characteristic features of political-administrative relations in the region with the smallest and largest fluctuation of the regional political leader in Czech Republic. The work in research exploits the information from the previous knowledge and the already established theory of politico-administrative relations, which are significantly differentiated and varied and also offers data from its own empirical research carried out at the regional offices. After the theories of J. D. Aberbach et al., F. Schreues et al., G. Peters and especially the main theory of P. E. Mouritzen and J. H. Svara are presented, the author presents the findings of the qualitative research in the last chapter and tries to include them into these theories and typologies, and to specify the nature of the relations examined at the regional level and to draw attention to their possible influences and consequences on the functioning of regional polity.

Regionální politika Evropské unie a její růstové efekty na regiony Jižní Itálie / Regional Policy of the European Union and its Growth Effects on the Southern Italian Regions

Klán, Robert January 2008 (has links)
Region policy of the European Union seems to be one of the most important policy at the supranational level. While it represented only a negligible item on the european budget in the 80s, today it occupies, from the expenditure volume point of view, a second place already. During this dynamic period of time Cohesion policy has become an object of number of political but also special discussions, gained many favorers and opponents. With regard to the considerable amounts of money it has granted, it is worth of detailed attention. Italy has become the seond largest beneficiary from the Structural funds between 1989 an 2006. Its economy is characterised by a substantial geografic dualism where its Southern "periphery" has been struggling with continuous socio-economic difficulties. These regions have had a change to benefit from the generous Structural funds for a considerable period of time. This study tries to analyse the effectiveness of these financial resources, in other words, it considers empirical analysis of the marginal growth effects of these resources on the Southern Italian regions.
