Uppsala kommuns arbete med äldres ensamhet i särskilda boenden

Rummel, Ebba January 2023 (has links)
Among elderly people living in long-term residencies, 60 % experience loneliness. Loneliness has negative consequences on both an individual and societal level. It is therefore important to study how long-term residencies work to prevent loneliness among the elderly. Hence, this study aimed to describe how purchaser and providers within the municipality of Uppsala, work to prevent loneliness of the elderly in long term residencies and to describe how they would like to improve their work. A qualitative interview study was performed. 17 interviews were conducted with interviewees who worked as purchasers and providers within the municipality of Uppsala. The results of the study showed that interviewees viewed loneliness from a social and emotional perspective. Furthermore, loneliness was identified by social workers and health care workers through observation or conversation with the elderly. Purchasers used three governance methods to prevent loneliness: political goals, guidelines for social workers and for quality assurance. The providers were responsible for achieving these goals and guidelines. Therefore, to prevent loneliness, social group activities, individual activities, animal therapy and technological activities were offered at the long-term residencies. These activities were supposed to be followed up on both an individual and residential level. Informants described three areas that could be improved within the work to prevent loneliness. This is one of few studies that, in detail has described how a municipality work on different levels to prevent loneliness in long term residencies. This study has therefore contributed to a better understanding of how a municipality can work with this issue.

The artist as researcher : a narrative case study of Lead Pencil Studio

Palmiter, Erica Maria 03 October 2013 (has links)
This thesis is a narrative case study that examined the studio art practice of Lead Pencil Studio, a Seattle-based artist collaborative that explore our spatial relationships with architecture through site-specific installations. The case study specifically focused on the work of Daniel Mihalyo and Annie Han (Lead Pencil Studio) while they were at the Visual Arts Center in The University of Texas at Austin for a spring 2013 artist-in-residence program. The research focused specifically on the artists’ day-to-day process, examining the thoughts and actions that went into creating their work, Diffuse Reflection Lab, a two-story plywood structure that examined reflection’s effect on architecture through various vignettes. Through concentrated observations of the Lead Pencil Studio’s work and three semi-structured interviews, this thesis examined how traditional research practices are integrated into the studio art process. By examining the art/research relationship the author also situates this work in the field of practice-based research. While this work specifically focused on the research conducted by a pair of professional artists, it also extends to a broader argument about the role of research in art lessons. Since this thesis is based in art education, it connects the themes observed in the artists’ studio practice to interdisciplinary learning and arts integration. The author ultimately argues that Lead Pencil Studio’s art/research practice can be used in the classroom as an example of transdisciplinary learning and that it models a rigorous approach to creativity within other disciplines. / text
