A tecnologia e seu lugar na metodologia de restauro: Os 3D Laser Scanning como forma de documentação arquitetônica e sua aplicação no restauro do Palacete Tereza Lara em São Paulo. / The technology and its role in the methodology of restoration: the 3d laser scanning as a form of architectural documentation and its application in the restoration of the Palacete Tereza Lara in São Paulo.

Novaes, Maria Vitoria Fischer 31 October 2018 (has links)
The aim of this research is to understand the role of architectural documentation in the restoration and safeguarding of material heritage, focusing on the architectural survey by 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanning, having as a case study the Palacete Teresa Lara, an important eclectic architecture sample in São Paulo, registered by CONPRESP, which was the object of project and restoration works. Architectural documentation is an important tool for the task of transmitting assets to future generations. It is the object of study of institutions related to the disciplinary field of conservation and there is a consensus that the registration and production of survey material help in the management and decision making on the future of monuments. Therefore, it is necessary to have an understanding of its physical aspects and spatial configurations, as well as the understanding of intangible aspects of heritage, such as its history, social condition and political, cultural and economic relations. Documentation, registration and information management are not understood as an end in themselves, but as a tool for the conservation decision-making process, being an important part of the research and investigation stages of the monument. In this way, the research presents the benefits that must be observed and that justify the accurate recording of the historical heritage and bases the technique of cadastral surveying 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanning, in historical buildings. The research also seeks to understand the contemporary theoretical debate, with the updating and expansion of the concepts of the Theory of Restoration, by Cesare Brandi, in order to understand the relationship between technology and theory, and the effective contribution of technical advances in Restoration practice . Finally, in view of the theoretical and technical base already presented, the research studies how the 3D Laser Scanning technology for survey was used in the Palacete Teresa Lara, and what contributions the technique brought to the procedures and dynamics inherent to the work.

Protecting Professional Football: A Case Study of Crisis Communication Tactics Demonstrated During the Concussion Crisis by the National Football League and the Introduction of Cultural Ingrainment as a Component in Crisis Communications Models

Mower, Jordan Todd 01 December 2015 (has links)
This research analyzes the crisis communications tactics employed by the National Football League at key points during the concussion crisis in relation to strategies recommended by models based on image restoration theory and situational crisis communications theory. The discrepancies between the NFL's tactics and recommended situational tactics, viewed in light of the financial and market increases for the league over the duration of the crisis, show the need for an additional component in accepted crisis communications models. Cultural ingrainment is posited as a component to be added to present models as a mitigating factor of organizational harm in cases of strong attribution of organizational responsibility. This addition of cultural ingrainment provides an explanation for the possibility of so-called “invincible brands.”

Grönskans betydelse i den täta staden

Kleverman, Johanna, Sjölin, Jenny January 2018 (has links)
In conjunction with urban densification, the proportion of greenery per inhabitant decreases, requiring cities to plan for environments with greenery promoting mental recovery and other ecosystem services. Based on the fact that Malmö is one of the cities in Sweden with the least greenery per inhabitant, and that squares are potential public spaces to increase greenery, the following study contains an analysis of Nobeltorget and Masttorget with focus on greenery and mental recovery. The purpose of the study has been to analyze how two squares, recently built or rebuilt, are designed based on the goal of achieving increased greenness in the city. The study consists of two separate studies, where the results have been used for analyzing the goals formulated in the Malmö City Green Plan (Grönplan) and General Plan (Översiktsplan). The planning tool Biotope Area Factor has been used as a tool for creating qualitative values by quantitatively calculating the proportion of greenery on the squares. A survey has been designed with Perceived Restoration Scale, to investigate the experience of Nobeltorget and Masttorget by valuation based on photographs of the squares. The result of the field study shows that the proportion of greenery differs significantly between the squares, where Nobeltorget has more greenery in relation to the total area, compared to Masttorget. The results of the survey showed minor differences in the experience of the squares, where Nobeltorget was evaluated slightly higher according to fascination, being away, restoration likelihood and preference.

Finding Home in Nature: Nature's Role in Immigrant Weelbeing

Jabeen, Sehrish January 2023 (has links)
It has been observed in the past few years that a large number of migrants have arrived in Europe. The number of international students who come to Sweden each year is one of the most overlooked groups of immigrants. The immigrant students are experiencing difficulties in their health and wellbeing due to new country settlement challenges. Therefore, this study examines the relationship between immigrant students and their natural environments, focusing in particular on their wellbeing. In order to achieve this objective, a qualitative study of 11 semi structured interviews are conducted on two south Asian groups of immigrants studying in Gothenburg, Sweden. This study investigates how immigrant students cope with challenges in the host country by utilizing natural places. It also investigates how they can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing by interacting with nature using biophilia and attention restoration theories. There are three primary domains in which immigrant students can establish meaningful relationships with nature and enhance their holistic wellbeing, according to the findings of this study. First, they can embrace nature by spending time in natural places every day. Second, they can participate in nature-based recreation that strengthens their connection with nature, helps them get ready for the challenges of living in a new country, and makes them feel healthy overall. Third, the bond they build with nature through daily interactions and outdoor recreation can improve their psychological and emotional wellbeing.

Creating Healthy Urban Environments: Commercial Landscaping, Preference and Public Health

Leibe, Mary 16 December 2016 (has links)
Landscape development[1] can provide many benefits, including the reduction of stormwater runoff and the creation of habitats for wildlife. It can also provide health benefits. Researchers, such as Roger Ulrich and Rita Berto have demonstrated that views of trees and other vegetation are associated with lower blood pressure and reduced recovery times in hospitals and that environments with more natural elements may lessen mental fatigue (R. Ulrich 1984) and (Berto 2005). As rebuilding in New Orleans continues 11 years after Hurricane Katrina, landscape development has been limited or lacking, especially in the redevelopment of commercial properties. Two prominent reasons for this deficiency are a lack of funding and, until August of 2015, the absence of a comprehensive landscape ordinance. The purpose of the research presented here is to determine the degree to which community residents express a preference for healthier commercial environments. As part of my research, I measured community perceptions of four potential redevelopment concepts for a blighted strip shopping center utilizing attention restoration theory (ART), which postulates that certain environmental qualities contribute to reductions in mental fatigue. I found that commercial environments with the most quality landscaping[2] are those that neighborhood residents most prefer and are most conducive to better health. Keywords: mental fatigue, attention restoration theory, perceived restoration scale, commercial landscape quantity, public health, healthy urban environment [1] Refer to operational definitions (pages 4-6). Global Public Relations and Multinational Corporations: The Influence of Culture on Public’s Reactions to H&M, Dove, and Nivea’s Media Campaigns in the United States and Nigeria

Makanjuola, Olayinka 01 May 2020 (has links)
This study examined the significant impact of culture on global public relations practices using a case study analysis of Dove, H&M, and Nivea’s media campaigns between 2017 and 2019. The analysis was carried out through a structural comparison between the public’s reaction from the United States and Nigeria. Cultural variations between the two countries were examined, and how the variations impact GPR practices were explored. Social judgment theory, apologia, and image restoration theory were used as the theoretical frameworks alongside Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. This study demonstrates that understanding cultural dimensions as it applies to diverse countries operating in the global market can reveal how organizations can design and implement effective public relations practices across borders regardless of the existing cultural differences, which pose as a challenge.

Urban dwellers experiences regarding loss of natural environments due to rapid urbanization

Montanye, Erica 01 January 2017 (has links)
Little is known about how residents of rapidly growing cities are impacted by the loss of natural environments. Large cities are expanding at an exponential rate, reducing the presence of, and access to, natural environments for urban dwellers. Many benefits to human health regarding the presence of natural environments near where people live and work are known, but impacts of the loss of natural environments for urban dwellers are unknown. The purpose of this qualitative investigation was to understand residents' experiences regarding the loss of natural environments and related impacts. Attention restoration theory and place attachment were the theoretical lenses used to examine this problem. Data were collected via in-depth interviews from a purposive sample of 20 San Antonio residents. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis procedures, 7 themes emerged: (a) environment (b) health (c) safety (d) finance (e) community and culture (e) factors related to deprivation of nature, and (f) recommendations for improvements. Residents expressed concerns for their health, mental health, the environment, wildlife, byproducts of urbanization, social well-being, personal safety, and finances. Other possible key factors related to the process of deprivation of nature included experiencing a loss of freedom, associated with emotional impacts similar to sadness. Residents of San Antonio, city planners, and policy makers could benefit from understanding these impacts on residents. Data from this study may contribute to possible implications for social change and new knowledge and insights in the areas of health, mental health, social responsibility, urban planning, land conservation, and environmental psychology.
