Omvänt mentorskap - Reverse Mentoring : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om chefers upplevelser av att vara adept med studenter som mentorer - A qualitative interview study about managers' experiences of being adept with students as mentors

Omvänt mentorskap är ett fenomen som i dagens samhälle blivit en allt vanligare form att bedriva mentorskap på. Det intressanta med omvänt mentorskap är att det skapar ett annorlunda förhållningssätt till de traditionella rollerna inom mentorskap. Syftet med denna studie har dels varit att undersöka chefers upplevelser av omvänt mentorskap rent generellt, dels i förhållande till Covid-19 utifrån ett sociologiskt perspektiv. Där teorier kring roller, interaktion, ålders- och institutionell kategorisering har använts. Underlaget till studien har baserats på sex semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer med chefer i en svensk mellanstor universitetkommun vilka deltagit i ett projekt om omvänt mentorskap. Resultatet i uppsatsen visar att chefers deltagande i ett omvänt mentorskap beror på att de vill utveckla sitt ledarskap och samtidigt få nya perspektiv för att som chef kunna anpassa sig till samhällsförändring. De deltar också för att få en inblick om den yngre generationen för att strategiskt kunna förhålla sig till dem på arbetsmarknaden. De vill även delta då det är ett bra sätt att kompetensutveckla sig som erfaren chef. De upplever dock att Covid-19 genom digitala möten har försvårat relationsbyggande, men att sådana möten är ett bra komplement när man väl lärt känna varandra.

Reverse Mentoring in the Classroom: A Qualitative Study

The intent of this paper is to understand the lived experiences of higher education students engaging in reverse mentoring. A literature review aims to discover how reverse mentoring is being implemented. Reverse mentoring, framed by social exchange theory and leader-member exchange theory, is a method focused on younger generations teaching technology to older generations, such as current-day Millennials with Baby Boomers. This review examines reverse mentoring practices, analyzes what has worked, and seeks to determine if this learning method has a place in the classroom. Due to the segmented, yet evolving application of reverse mentoring, there is a lack of research in environments like education. There is potential to use reverse mentoring as a vehicle to share knowledge, showcase students' work, demonstrate competencies, improve soft skills, develop lasting relationships, and potentially improve recent graduate new hire retention. As a means to understand the essence of and the lived experiences of students in reverse mentoring, interpretative phenomenological analysis-a qualitative research approach-is used to frame student experiences in the reverse mentoring in an educational context.

Outcomes for Professionals and Companies Through Student-Professional Reverse Mentoring Sessions

This qualitative inquiry explores the outcomes that professionals, and their companies, experience when they participate in a student-professional reverse mentorship. Professional development is used across all trades and professions as a way to increase employee skills and improve product/service quality. Reverse mentoring, where a novice teaches the more experienced individual, is a relatively new approach in professional development. When the reverse mentoring scenario is between students and professionals, instead of professionals and their colleagues, we know that students benefit from the reverse mentoring process but little is known about what outcomes the professionals experience. This research reports that professionals experience similar benefits through student-professional reverse mentoring as they experience through colleague reverse mentoring.
