Understanding Christian conversion in a black township parishHlatshwayo, Bafana Gilbert 11 1900 (has links)
This is a hermeneutical study of an attempt to inculturate a Redemptorist parish mission in
a black township parish. The purpose of Redemptorist parish mission is conversion and
renewal. This study is influenced by -
- the spirit of St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787)
founder of the Redemptorists
- Vatican II (1962-1965) and by
- the African Synod (1994);
and it uses the systemic stage model of Rambo and the spiral model of Costas, as a
framework to understand conversion. The conversion experiences of ten parishioners of St.
Peter's parish are used as data for the study. A theological reflection on the ten conversions
confirmed the following: that cultural context is important for understanding conversion;
that conversion is both a distinct moment and a continuous process; that it is imperative to
understand conversion from the perspective of the convert him/herself. For 'mission preaching' to effect genuine conversion it must be inculturated. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / Th. M. (Missiology)

Previous issue date: 2005-10-31 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The purpose of the present research is to capture the aesthetic project underlying Adélia Prado s poetics, starting from the analysis of three compositional elements in her work: metalanguage, metaphor and rhythm.
The hypothesis that supports the research is based on the understanding that metalanguage, metaphor and rhythm are for Adelia Prado s poetry analogical to what the celebration of the Christian initiation sacraments (such as Baptism and Eucharist) mean for Catholicism. These are essential elements in both experiences, that is, they render the very existence of these experiences possible.
It is through this aspect that the sacred and the non sacred, the immanent and the transcendent, the ascendant and the descendent are ultimately reconnected, so that both experiences, the poetic and the religious one merge: the poetic language aims at reuniting the name to the named thing, in the same way as the liturgical celebration accomplishes the fusion between the being and the Other Being. In Prado s poetry, as both dimensions merge into a single one, the word is retied to the being, the finite nature of the human experience is transcended and a reconnection between man and his ultimate otherness becomes possible / A presente pesquisa tem como objetivo deflagrar o projeto estético subjacente à poética de Adélia Prado, a partir da análise de três elementos composicionais presentes em sua obra: metalinguagem, metáfora e ritmo.

Santa Caterina at Galatina : late medieval art in Salento at the frontier of the Latin and Orthodox worldsHarvey, Maria January 2019 (has links)
The focus of this dissertation is the Franciscan church of Santa Caterina (ca.1385-1391) at Galatina in the Salento, an area of Italy characterised by the presence of Greek language and/or rite communities. Scholars have described it as an emblematically 'Latin' church, decorated with 'Giottesque' frescoes, commissioned by a ruthless and ambitious signore, built with the papacy's approval, donated to the Franciscan order and founded with the aim of providing mass in Latin for those who did not speak Greek. This dissertation argues that that view needs to be considerably nuanced, if only because the relationship between the Graeci and the Latini in late-medieval Salento is much more complex than often acknowledged. I place Santa Caterina in its context, exploring how the frescoes themselves are evidence for transculturation and how the experience of both communities must be re-centred in order to fully understand the creation and reception of the fresco programme. Before doing this, however, this PhD focuses on the history of the foundation by restoring agency to two of the three main patrons: Raimondello del Balzo Orsini (d.1406) and his wife Maria d'Enghien (d.1446). I argue that the foundation of Santa Caterina was the first sign of Raimondello's interest in south-eastern Italy, which would allow him to become the first person outside of the royal family to be crowned Prince of Taranto in 1399. I explore the possibility the church may have been built ad instar of St Catherine's on Mt Sinai, and how this may in turn explain some of its unusual architectural features. This dissertation then takes on the second phase of the church's history, during which Maria, now Queen of Naples, commissioned the extensive mural decoration. I date the fresco decoration ca.1415-23/5, discuss in detail their iconography, reconstruct lost scenes, and present - for the first time - a holistic interpretation of the mural programme.

Vie chrétienne et handicap : prescriptions canoniques et orientations pastorales / Christian life and disability : canonical prescriptions and pastorals guidancesBuyssechaert, Anne 15 April 2015 (has links)
Along with international law and the law of many countries, canon law does not ignore people with disabilities. It guarantees a certain extent their rights and duties regarding access to the Word of God and participation in the life of the Church. This is reflected in particular in legal rules for access to the sacraments of initiation and healing. Pastoral practice applies the law and feeds it. It is based on the Bible, especially on the attitude of Christ. It also draws on theological reflection on disability, which develops in recent decades, and collaborates with movements and associations which bring together people with disabilities and their close relations. Bishops from different countries sometimes give pastoral guidelines to foster always more the participation of people with disabilities in the Church, and the full realization of their baptismal vocation. The identity of the Church is at stake. Beyond the purely legal aspect of non-discrimination, the Church is really the body of Christ only when every faithful with disability really holds a role commensurate with its capabilities.

Pastorální rehabilitace v paliativní péči o nemocné / Pastoral rehabilitation in lenitixe care of patiensKAŠPARŮ, Mária January 2007 (has links)
At present and in this country, the concept of spiritual support, pastoral support, or spiritual rehabilitation of the sick is not entirely clear, both in terms of the content and form. Despite this vagueness, spiritual support of the sick forms an inseparable part of so-called holistic, i.e., comprehensive approach to care for human beings. In any case, this type of care is not linked to any religious denomination; rather, we have to understand it as assistance in the area of finding one{\crq}s way (orientation) in the sense of valuating one{\crq}s reality. Namely, patients often seek a spiritual person, be it s professional or layman, who specializes in spiritual rehabilitation. Even patients who claim to be atheist or agnostic need to discuss problems of existential or philosophical nature, which they are unable to find the answer for by themselves. Sometimes, they wish to address issues that had been hidden, while they were enjoying good health, as supposedly "superfluous issues", but due to their sickness, they came to the surface and the patients are short of answers and unable to deal with them. The Master{\crq}s Thesis is divided into two parts: The first, theoretical part focuses on forms and solutions of spiritual rehabilitation, whereas the second part contains statistical comparisons of approaches, opinions, and attitudes on these issues on the part of medical personnel working in hospices and other facilities. In this Thesis, the above can be summed up into three basic factors: 1) Pastoral medicine offered as one of the options for those who are gravely ill or dying and seek "spiritual rehabilitation" and fulfillment of their spiritual desires; 2) Facilitation of access to information on the interaction of medical fields of specialty and psychology with spiritual guidance; 3) Documentation of the spectrum of opinions and experience that individual medical workers have about spiritual rehabilitation.

La pensée du religieux au siècle des Lumières : études sémiostylistiques d'oeuvres littéraires et picturales / Religious Thinking in the the Age of the Enlightenment : semiostylistic studies of literary and pictorial works of artDi Rosa, Geneviève 27 November 2012 (has links)
The importance of Religion in the Age of the Enlightenment is no longer to be proven, whether it be historically, philosophically ar artistically. The question is to make out if there exists a way of thinking Religion in the XVIIIth century, i.e. specific modes of weighing meanings which are related to the invisible, the supernatural or the divine. Rather than one idea in particular (happiness, nature, energy, anxiety), we are studying a connection, an articulate relation between man and what can be symbolized : how a given society assesses this connection to the supernatural, and through wich media. Our investigation favours essays, the production of a thinking which never adheres to the identity or the concept, but which is rather a swerve, a movement, which allows it to explore terra incognita ; the investigation also favours history painting, the genre in which iconography is by essence cosa mentale, a visual manifestation of the mediations of a thinking. The semiostylistical analysis of the works are orientated by two poles, the biblical intertextuality and the socio-theological praxis of the quarrel over the refusal of sacraments. These analysis allow to grasp the mutations of the biblical paradigm, the rationalist thinking and mimetic aesthetics while they make light on the epistemological obstacles, the resistance points, the skandalon. Thinking Religion in the XVIIIth century, between audacity and dismay, appears marked by the jansenist thinking of testimony, as well as a questionning of rationalist thinking in favour of a new philosophy of language
