Collaborative conceptual design methods in the context of the Swedish deregulated railway market : From the perspectives of maintenance, infrastructure management, product provision, and research

Petersson, Anna Malou January 2017 (has links)
As a result of the deregulation of the Swedish railway market, the differentfunctions involved during the life cycle of railway products have been spreadout over different actors. The trigger for the work presented in this thesis wasthe insight that, since function-specific knowledge of the railway in Swedenbelongs to different organizations, special efforts would be needed to achieve aholistic picture of a railway product during the conceptual design phase. However, there is a lack of methods developed for groups with participants fromdifferent organizations possessing different functional knowledge about a product. The overall aim of the research for this thesis was therefore to develop anideation method and a concept selection method specifically for groups actingin the context of the Swedish deregulated railway market, with members fromdifferent organizations with different functional knowledge. By means of actiondesign research, the methods were developed within the scope of a researchproject involving four different actors on the Swedish railway market. The project group tested Method 635, the gallery method and the SIL method.Overall, the gallery method was most popular and the SIL method leastpopular among the participants. Method 635 was found to have a considerablyhigher idea and concept generation rate than the gallery and SIL methods. The developed ideation method combines the rotational viewing of generatedideas in the group and gallery viewing with steps of verbal interaction wherethe group members take turns to present and comment on generated ideas. Theproject group regarded the developed method as the best method of all themethods which they had tried, and it outperformed the other methods with regardto the total number of generated concepts and ideas. The views of the projectgroup on the method correlated positively to the views of participants takingpart in field tests of the method. The developed concept selection method combines refined versions of theprocedures for topic clarification, goal specification, requirement specificationand concept screening developed by Pahl and Beitz with a concept scoring procedurebased on the life cycle and societal costs associated with each conceptthat fulfils the stated requirements. The most important effect of the composition of the group was found to bethe wide range of viewpoints on the topic at hand that the representative groupof different relevant actors was able to provide.

Displacement Analysis of a Geodetic Network : A case study of the Vasa warship

Johansson, Filippa, Karlsson, Lenita January 2017 (has links)
By measuring coordinates repeatedly in time we can detect movements of an area or an object by establishing and monitoring a geodetic network. Since it is known that the Vasa warship is suffering from decomposition, a geodetic network has been established around the ship to monitor its deformation. This is an important task for preserving and supporting the ship in its place. In this thesis, time series of coordinates are considered over 22 epochs of the ship measurements, a quadratic line is fitted to them and acceleration and velocity for each point on the ship’s hull are obtained. The x-axis is across the ship, the y-axis is along and the zaxis is the vertical one in the local coordinate system of the ship. A method is developed for monitoring displacement and its error at different parts on the ship in two successive epochs, considering the covariances between the point coordinates. The covariances influence the result of the displacement. Significant displacements, calculated with a variance-covariance matrix were compared with the displacements calculated without variance-covariance matrix. Considering the covariances gave 108 more insignificant three dimensional displacements, which means that they are in the order of random errors. The largest acceleration and velocity are found in the upper part of the ship stern in the Zcoordinates, where all points have significant acceleration and velocity. The ship bow has the second highest acceleration and velocity, while the midsection of the ship seems to be more stabile. In the X- and Y-coordinates the acceleration and velocity are smaller, in Ycoordinates almost all points have significant acceleration and velocity. In the Xcoordinates there are several points of data with insignificant acceleration and velocity, most of them located at the midsection of the vessel. The results show that the ship is moving and accelerating at various speeds on different sides of the ship, which indicates that there are parts that suffer from more crucial decomposing. The stern is the part of the vessel that has the highest velocity, acceleration and displacement. The ship is moving downwards with respect to the museum building at the same time as it tilting towards the port. The down pulling force can explain the movements downwards, the strength of the oak can also be one reason. The tilting could depend on the support structure since points in various part of the ship seems to have the same amount of movement in the direction towards the port.

Utformning av ny butik i Sunne : Arkitektritning / The design of the new store in Sunne : Architectural drawing

Samuelson, Anna January 2016 (has links)
The project work includes project planning, structural engineering and construction. The report contains a new proposal of how to build a completely new business premises. The proposal solves the lack of commercial space and parking for Ica Sunne who wants to develop their business. This project is part of "fair trading" because other shops in the centre have parking near their stores. It is impotrant for the whole centre that ICA maintain their business operations in central Sunne. The project work includes research and interviews compiled into a final architectural drawings for the business requirements and the model of a new commercial building with apartments on the second and third floor and the design of new parking lots. The exterior is of importance since it must comply with the existing built environment. The goal is to eventually try to implement this project.

Individuell mätning och debitering av tappvarmvatten i flerbostadshus / Individual monitoring and debiting of hot tap water in multiple dwelling units

Olars, Ricky January 2020 (has links)
The European Parliament and the European Council require, trough Article 9 in the Energy Efficiency Directive, the member countries to apply individual monitoring and debiting (IMD) of hot tap water in multiple dwelling units (MDU's). The (Swedish) government directed Boverket (National Board of Housing) to investigate causes to implement individual monitoring of heating, comfort cooling and hot tap water in MDU's. Boverket's conclusion after the investigation is that IMD of hot tap water is, in many cases, an unprofitable investment and should not be urged in any instance. The government has, based on Boverket's reports and European Comission requirements, added five new sections in the regulation (2014:348) of energy monitoring in buildings where IMD of hot tap water is required in the event of reconstruction. The intention of the case study was to analyze cost efficiency of implementing IMD of hot tap water during replumbing in a MDU in Borlänge, Dalarna county. The study was conducted using two different models of measuring equipment in two separate main cases and two different sub cases. The actual volume of heated water is uncertain and assumptions of hot water volume differs between the two main cases. Tariffs for water, sewage and district heating from Karlskoga Energi och Miljö (Karlskoga Energy and Environment) and Mörbylånga Kommun (municipality) were used in the sub cases. Payments and disbursements as consequences of implementing IMD were managed using Risk Metrics. A sensitivity analysis was conducted, where every uncertain variable was tested within it's uncertainty range, to investigate how changes in variables affect the profitability of the investments. The result presented only negative values except in one case. A profitable investment result could only be achieved by using measuring system 2, the highest tariffs, highest volumes of hot water consumption, and, adjusting either one of the following parameters: Reduce installation cost for the cheapest measuring system by 15%, or lower the imputed rate of interest to 5%, or raise tariffs by 4%.

FOR STEEL RECYCLING IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY

Luay Hamed, Mina, Ismail, Mina January 2020 (has links)
Nowadays huge volume of steel from the construction industry are being disposed of despite the several waste managing methods that have been developed within EU. The major issue that causes landfills from the construction industry is that there is no person in charge of the matter of reusing materials, because it is a process involving several persons. There are strategies for increasing steel reusage that can be implemented in early stages of construction projects. Circular economy is a strategy that can account for steel being constantly reused as a new resource. The hidden complex of problems is the time pressure that arise at the start of a project and continues throughout until the end of the production. In order to follow the waste staircase which is an EU directive and allows for clear prioritization in the construction sector it is required time, resources and commitment. The waste staircase consists of five steps: minimization of landfill, energy recovery from landfill, material reusage, material recycling and prevention. It is more favorable through the environmental perspective to reuse steel and reduce consumption of natural resources and landfills to sustain the environment. The process of steel manufacturing is dependent on the demand from multiply industries where the construction industry is one of the larger consumers. A buyer within the construction industry can have a huge influence on the demand of steel manufacturing. Opportunities for increased steel recycling can be requested by the customer in the tender request documentation. Many construction companies in Sweden try to obtain the global goals for sustainable development such as Agenda 2030 while constructing, SWECO is one of these companies. The purpose of this examination paper is to research whether there are opportunities for improving the efficiency of reusing steel within the construction industry. The method should be a contributing element for the entire construction sector. It is important to specify who has the most influence over the reuse of steel within the construction industry. The question at hand was answered with the help of literature sources and state agencies, interviews with client, planners, building contractor and recycling companies. The questions in the interviews was asked with the purpose to answer the issue at hand in the research. The study is also limited to steel reusage in the construction industry. The compilation of the interviews displays that improved communication between involved parties and follow-up throughout the process is required. To increase standardization of structural components is to increase the efficiency of recycling. Lastly the conclusion is that the buyer has the most decisive influence on the steel recycling in the construction sector. The requirements for how the steel should be managed in the landfill that occur at the end of the production phase must already be established in the tender request documentation. Many companies in the construction industry are committed and works to increase the recycling of steel. However many takes to consideration the financial aspects over the environmental positive aspects, this leads to companies purchasing newly produced steel instead of reusing existing steel. The potential for increasing steel recycling is to prospect, whichmeans reusing steel components from one project to another. Other solutions for increasing steel recycling within the construction industry is with circular economy and input – output analysis.

Lovric, Oliver January 2021 (has links)
Work-related musculoskeletal injuries and disorders are still very common problems in the construction industry. A technology that might have potential to reduce the physical demands and fatigue experienced by construction workers are exoskeletons, a wearable device that provides assistance to the user. However, as of today, it is still unusual to find any exoskeleton users within the construction industry. Hence, it cannot be considered implemented in the industry for various reasons. This study presents, through both a qualitative and quantitative method, the exoskeletons usability in the construction industry. The former method consisting of physical tryouts with a passive exoskeleton for overhead work by workers at construction sites. While the latter method being a survey about the users experience with the specific exoskeleton in question. Even though some uncertainties were found regarding the exoskeleton’s usability, the outcome was mostly positive and in line with the theoretical analysis.
