The following active principles, with the respective concentrations, were tested: Amitraz 250 ppm, cipermetrine high CIS 250 ppm, cipermetrine high CIS + DDVP 500 ppm and clorpyrifos + DDVP 500 ppm. Two groups of 10 engorged female ticks were used for each principle. Two groups with 10 females were used as controls, being treated with destilled water. The found results of the medium efficacy and the range (on amplitude) were: amitraz 45.40% (10.16 87.54); cipermetrine high CIS 37.61% (13.62 61.71); cipermetrine high CIS + DDVP 42.27% (23.87 76.87) and clorpyrifos + DDVP 88.95% (62.76 99.73). The active principles amitraz, cipermetrine high CIS and cipermetrine high CIS + DDVP were less efficient than the product containing clorpyrifos + DDVP, who proved out to being 11 of the studied cattlefarms. These differences in efficient treatment and control of tick B. microplus point out to the necessity of tests as well as for permanent monitoring control in order to find out the best acaricides for each farm.

Silva, Bruna Rozzetti 26 October 2011 (has links)
Objective: To clinically evaluate the effect on shade change of hydrogen peroxide in concentrations of 20%, 30% and 38% as well as dental sensitivity, assessed immediately before the whitening treatment and 7,14 and 30 days after. Material and Method: The split arch model was used to compare different products in the same patient. Sixty nine volunteers were selected and instructed on the procedures. The volunteers were randomly divided into 3 groups of 23 patients each. Group 1: hydrogen peroxide 20% versus hydrogen peroxide 30%; Group 2: hydrogen peroxide 20% versus hydrogen peroxide 38%; Group 3: hydrogen peroxide 30% versus hydrogen peroxide 38%. Each patient was submitted to two in office whitening session with a 7 days interval between them. The shade of superior incisives and canines was assesses with a digital Easyshade spectrophotometer immediately before and after the whitening treatment as well as 7,14 and 30 days after treatment. For the dental sensitivity evaluation, patients filled out a questionary, with the aid of a analogical visual scale (VAS) before, during the treatment, after, 1 hour, 24 hours, 7, 14 and 30 days post treatment, Results: ANOVA test showed a statistically significant difference between the different concentration of hydrogen peroxide, and also a statistically significant difference amongst canines and incisive teeth, within each experimental group. Hydrogen peroxide 30% showed greater shade change when compared to hydrogen peroxide 20% and 38%. The canine teeth showed higher shade change when compared to incisive teeth. Regarding dental sensitivity, no statistically significant difference was observed for the different concentrations evaluated (p=0.15). 24 hours after whitening treatment there were no reports of dental sensitivity. Conclusion: Hydrogen peroxide at 30% showed greater shade change when compared to hydrogen peroxide at 20% and 38%. 7 days post whitening treatment all groups evaluated showed shade stability.

Arte e utopia em Herbert Marcuse / Art and Utopia in Herbert Marcuse

Kunz, Cibele Saraiva 26 August 2019 (has links)
This thesis intends to follow the development of the relationship between art and utopia in the work of Herbert Marcuse. Therefore, it is necessary to understand how the author develops the relationship between sensibility and social change in his aesthetic-political writings. It is also important to dialogue with the traditional and contemporary authors of the philosophy, such as Schiller, Mannheim, Bloch and the circle of critical theory of which Marcuse was a part. Considering that Marcuse does not treat the theme of utopia in a consistent manner across his work, but that it is always related to the role of art of negating the status quo, and based on the historical context in which his texts were written, the contributions and limitations of the marcusean aesthetic theory to the contemporary philosophical debate are discussed, as well as the possibility of calling it utopian. Marcuse, as a critic of orthodox Marxism, revisits proposals debated by utopian socialists such as Fourier and, like Bloch, he is responsible for recovering the importance of the issue of sensibility in the socialist discourse. Bringing the debate of sensibility into the political discourse is one of Marcuse\'s great legacies.

Development, Sensibility and Reliability of a New Case-finding Questionnaire: The Toronto Axial Spondyloarthritis Questionnaire (TASQ) in Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Alnaqbi, Khalid Abdalla Ali Bin Yarouf 20 November 2012 (has links)
Background: There is an unacceptable delay in diagnosis of axial Spondyloarthritis (axSpA) especially in its early stages among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Objective: to develop a sensible and reliable questionnaire to identify undetected axSpA among IBD patients. Methods: Candidate items for the questionnaire were selected on 3 domains (IBD, inflammatory back symptoms, and extra-axial features). Sensibility of the Toronto axSpA Questionnaire (TASQ) was assessed leading to drafting 18 items. Test-retest reliability study was conducted among 77 patients with established IBD and axSpA and kappa agreement coefficients were calculated for items. Results: The TASQ was developed using multiple steps of sensibility assessment resulting in 16 items. Kappa coefficients ranged from 0.81 to 1.00 for all items indicating almost perfect agreement. Conclusion: TASQ is a newly developed, sensible and reliable questionnaire that should facilitate identification and referral of IBD patients to rheumatologists and should avoid delay in diagnosis of axSpA.

Whiplash associated disorders : acute and chronic consequences with some implications for rehabilitation

Sterner, Ylva January 2001 (has links)
Background: Whiplash associated disorders (WAD) account for a large proportion of the overall impairment and disability from traffic injuries and causes substantial bio psychosocial consequences for some individuals. Aims: To increase the knowledge about factors described in terms of either function /impairment, activity/disability and life satisfaction in acute and chronic WAD as well as possible implications for rehabilitation. Within this aim the incidence and recovery rate of whiplash injury and prognostic factors of interest for early rehabilitation have been studied. Subjects and Methods: Fifty-five healthy controls and 34 WAD subjects were analysed within and between groups concerning a) biomechanical out put, endurance, fatigue and muscle tension (EMG activity of trapezius, infraspinatus and deltoideus) during repetitive shoulder forward flexion b) impairments and activity/disability and life satisfaction.356 subjects seeking medical attention due to whiplash trauma, 296 were available at follow up, mean 16 months post injury. Incidence and odds ratio of accident and other background factors on disability were determined. Thirty-four out of 43 patients with whiplash injury were investigated through quantitative sensory tests at six weeks and 71 months after injury. 62 WAD participated in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation program (a pilot study) designed to evaluate such rehabilitation program for patients with chronic (in relatively early stage) WAD. Program evaluation of impairment, disability and life satisfaction (prospective and retrospective) was carried out before and after program and at 6 months. Results: No significant effects of sex or age on the ability to relax between repetitive r muscle contractions (SAR) were found in healthy subjects (study I). Significantly higher inability to relax between contractions was found for the two portions of trapezius and infraspinatus in the WAD group compared to the healthy group (study II). Significantly lower levels of activity preferences were noted for three out of five indices in females with WAD The WAD group had significantly higher prevalence of neropsychological and emotional symptoms. Both pain related symptoms and neropsychological symptoms were of significant importance for aspects of disability and life satisfaction in this group (study IV). Sensory disturbances over the trigeminal skin area persisted over the years. At follow-up a significant correlation was found between the sensory disturbances and the symptoms related to the central nervous system while no significant relationship was found with the musculoskeletal symptoms (study HI) .The annual incidence according to the grading of the Quebec Task Force on Whiplash-Associated Disorders (WAD 1-3) was 3.2/1000 and 4.2/1000 when WAD 0 was included. Sixty-eight percent of the patients recovered during the follow-up Pre-traumatic neck pain, low educational level, female gender and WAD grade E-Ill were significantly associated with a poor prognosis (study IV). . Participants in the rehabilitation program reported increased coping ability. Stress reactions seemed rather frequent (32 %). Pain intensity in the neck and upper back were significantly decreased at 6 months follow-up. However, for most of the functional and psychological markers, no significant changes were found (study V). Conclusion: The higher prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints of the neck shoulder region in females cannot be explained by higher muscle tension and clinical assumption of increased muscle tension seems correct in whiplash patients Results indicate heterogeneity among WAD subjects. Females are at risk after a whiplash trauma but the severity of initial symptoms and signs also affect outcome as well as low education. High levels of neuropsychological symptoms and pain, signs of posttraumatic stress, fear and avoidance, loss of control, anxiety, bio-mechanical and psychosocial factors at work (studies) and social support are potential factors to be aware of. Extensive and costly investigations are in most cases not necessary. However most persons will recover a whiplash injury. Multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary assessment should be considered at three months if substantial negative effect on the person’s ability to function and health situation exists. / <p>Diss. Bayesian Networks and Geographical Information Systems for Environmental Risk Assessment for Oil and Gas Site Development

Varela Gonzalez, Patricia Ysolda 03 October 2013 (has links)
The objective of this work is to develop a Bayesian Network (BN) model to produce environmental risk maps for oil and gas site developments and to demonstrate the model’s scalability from a point to a collection of points. To reach this objective, a benchmark BN model was formulated as a “proof of concept” using Aquifers, Ecoregions and Land Use / Land Cover maps as local and independent input variables. This model was then used to evaluate the probabilistic geographical distribution of the Environmental Sensibility of Oil and Gas (O&G) developments for a given study area. A Risk index associated with the development of O&G operation activities based on the spatial environmental sensibility was also mapped. To facilitate the Risk assessment, these input variables (maps) were discretized into three hazard levels: high, moderate and low. A Geographical Information System (GIS) platform was used (ESRI ArcMap 10), to gather, modify and display the data for the analysis. Once the variables were defined and the hazard data was included on feature classes (layer shapefile format), Python 2.6 software was used as the computational platform to calculate the probabilistic state of all the Bayesian Network’s variables. This allowed to define Risk scenarios both on prognostic and diagnostic analysis and to measure the impact of changes or interventions in terms of uncertainty. The resulting Python – ESRI ArcMap computational script was called “BN+GIS, which populated maps describing the spatial variability of the states of the Environmental Sensibility and of the corresponding Risk index. The latter in particular, represents a tool for decision makers to choose the most suitable location for placing a drilling rig, since it integrates three fundamental environmental variables. Also, results show that is possible to back propagate the information from the Environmental Sensibility to define the inherent triggering scenarios (hazard variables). A case of study is presented to illustrate the applicability of the proposed methodology on a specific geographical setting. The Barnett Shale was chosen as a benchmark study area because sufficient information on this region was available, and the importance that it holds on the latest developments of unconventional plays in the country. The main contribution of this work relies in combining Bayesian Networks and GIS to define environmental Risk scenarios that can facilitate decision-making for O&G stakeholders such as land owners, industry operators, regulators and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), before and during the development of a given site.
