Ground Forces Impact on Release of Rotational Shot Put Technique

Arrhenius, Niklas B 01 December 2014 (has links) (PDF)
In the shot put throw, the primary power is generated in the form of ground reaction forces as a result of action of the lower extremities (Coh, Stuhec, & Supej, 2008). The purpose of this study was to determine how the ground reaction force and ground contact time during the delivery phase of rotational shot put relates to the predicted distance of the throw. This will allow us to determine the optimal approach of force application for maximum throwing distance (Linthorne, 2001). Eight male subjects were used in this study (age 23 ± 4 y; body mass 123 ± 14 kg; height 190 ± 4 cm; all right handed). Subjects threw three attempts in a custom-built shot put ring where two force plates were located where both feet were expected to land in the delivery. The throws were also filmed using two high-speed cameras at 120 frames/s. These videos gave us the speed, angle and height of release for predicting distance thrown. Results: Peak right leg force during delivery was correlated with throwing distance (R2 = 0.450, p = 0.001). Also, left leg ground time was significant with predicted throwing distance (R² = 0.516, p < 0.001). Because increased strength leads to greater throwing distances (Zaras et al., 2013) and peak right leg force was significant, it would be useful to perform proper strength training exercises that can increase a thrower's ability to increase the peak ground forces during a throw. If the thrower can produce greater peak force into the ground with the right leg during the delivery phase, this should cause the thrower to come off their left leg sooner, resulting in greater speed of release and thus distance thrown.

Lower Body Kinetics During the Delivery Phase of the Rotational Shot Put Technique

Williams, Jillian Mary 07 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to measure the change in joint energy of the hip, knee and ankle of the right and left leg, in the sagittal plane during the delivery phase of the rotational shot put. We hypothesized that (1) throwers who produced a greater total hip energy change would have greater horizontal displacement and (2) throwers who produced a higher ratio of hip energy, in each leg independently, would produce greater horizontal displacement. Subjects (n = 8) must have been right-handed, collegiate or post collegiate level throwers trained in the rotational technique. Vicon Nexus System (Denver, CO, USA) used six MX13+, two F20, two T20 cameras recorded at 240 Hz, and the body Plug-in Gait model to track the body position during each trial. Two AMTI force plates (OR-6, Watertown, MA, USA) were used for collecting ground reaction force data at 960 Hz. A linear regression analysis was performed to determine a relationship between total hip energy change and horizontal displacement. A mixed model regression was used to determine any correlation between horizontal distance and left and right energy change ratios. Athletes who produced a greater total hip energy change had the greatest horizontal displacement (p = .022). Also throwers who produced a higher ratio of left hip energy change to total left leg energy produced the greatest horizontal displacement (p = .02). The ratio of right hip energy change to right leg energy change was found to not be significant to horizontal displacement (p = .955). We feel the findings on the left leg energy change are an attempt by the athlete to both accelerate the shot put as well as stop the rotational progression to allow the athlete to complete a fair throw. The athlete extending both the right and the left hip rapidly during the delivery phase can help explain the combined right and left hip energy change. This action accelerates the ball in a proximal-distal sequence, which allows athletes to reach high final shot put velocities. The higher the final velocity on the shot put positively correlates with the horizontal displacement.

Trénink a výkonnost vrhačky. / Training and performance of a shot put thrower.

Radová, Pavlína January 2013 (has links)
Title Training and performance of a shot put thrower Aim of study The aim of study was to analyze performance development of shot put thrower Pavlína Radová in a five-year period. Analysis was focused on connection between the dynamics of athletic performance and the effect of training load during each of the two training cycles 2010/2011 and 2011/2012. Methods In this thesis, we used auto-analysis and comparison. Data for analysis of training load and performance development were obtained from the training diaries of the years 2010/2011 and 2011/2012. Results Sports performance development was majorly affected by character of training load and mental condition of the athlete in each yearly training cycle. Poorly chosen training load and insufficient regeneration lead to stagnation or decline in physical performance. Individual approach of the coach and his communication with trainee is very important. Key words Sports training, shot put, performance, analysis, training load

Anthropometric, Strength, and Power Determinants of Throwing Performance in Collegiate Throwers.

Swisher, Anna Meisinger 09 May 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to identify the anthropometric, strength, and power characteristics that best predict throwing performance. Seventeen male D-I throwers (age = 19.1 ± 1.2 y; body mass = 115.1 ± 15.3 kg; height = 1.85 ± 0.06 m) were assessed for maximum strength and power. A five variable linear regression (r = 0.94, r2 = 0.88, F(5,11) = 15.89, p < 0.001, SEE = 0.68) explained 88% of the variation in shot put (SP) performance. A five variable linear regression (r = 0.91, r2 = 0.83, F(5,11) = 10.509, p = 0.001, SEE = 1.18) explained 83% of the variation in weight throw (WT) performance. Both SP and WT correlated strongly with measures of explosive strength and power (r = 0.48-0.78). Best predictors of performance were static vertical jumps and 7.26 kilogram overhead shot throw; better throwers possess greater maximum strength and power.

AI-assisterad spårning av flygande objekt och distansberäkning inom kastgrenar / AI-assisted Tracking of Flying Objects and Distance Measuring within Throwing Sports

Jonsson, Fredrik, Eriksson, Jesper January 2022 (has links)
This thesis project has been done during ten weeks on behalf of the companyBitSim NOW. The current method used to measure the length of shot-puts presents a risk of inaccurate results along with the risk of injury for the measuring personnel. With the help of technical aids, a solution with more accurate measurements and a lower risk for injuries could be implemented in the sport of shot-puts. This report presents a solution using artificial intelligence to first identify the shotin video films and secondly calculate the length using mathematical formulas. Thesolution is then compared to a method that does not use artificial intelligence, to determine what method is the superior one. The parameters that were compared were the accuracy of the length and the quality of the tracking. The result was analyzed in relation to the aims of the project and then put into a larger context.
