Enticing consumers to enter fashion stores : a sensory marketing perspective

Abazi, Jeton, Sohani, Armin January 2016 (has links)
During the past years, there has been a re-emergence of sensory marketing in the paradigm of marketing. However, there is a lack of empirical studies done on the subject. Furthermore, the previous literature has focused on whether senses affects, rather than how they affect. Therefore, the purpose of this thesis is to study how sensory stimuli affects the consumers’ choice of entering physical fashion stores. This thesis is based on sensory marketing, consumer behaviour, and retail marketing theory. The theoretical framework in this thesis consists of an adapted sensory-stimuli-response model with the five main senses of sensory marketing as stimuli, emotional response of arousal and pleasure as organism, and entering or not entering as response. A qualitative research strategy was used to study the phenomenon. The empirical findings and the analysis showed that touch, sight, and sound were effective in enticing the consumer to enter by affecting their arousal. Furthermore, scent was on the opposite side as it was only affective in creating disinterest when bad. Lastly, taste displayed potential which warrants further research. This thesis might be of value for companies looking to implement sensory marketing as part of their marketing plan.

A Digest of Published Opinions About the Teaching of Music Reading in the Elementary School

Hill, Frankie Jean 06 1900 (has links)
Throughout the history of public school music in the United States, one of the problems which has continually been in the foreground is that of music reading, It is primarily a problem for the elementary school as that is the place where reading must begin in order for the children's interest and ability to be balanced. The elementary school is the focal point for the teaching of all skills and tools in learning. Certainly, reading is one of the major tools in the process of musical learning. In many cases the ability of the students to read music has been the basic criterion of the entire music program. Davison states that the aim and end of a large percentage of instruction has for so long been to train students to sing music at sight that it has grown to be a fetish. While such a standard as that is an over-emphasis of reading, most music educators will agree that the place of music reading in the elementary school is of utmost importance. The differences of opinions lie not so much in the goals to be reached as in the methods of reaching them. The purpose of this study is not to weigh these various methods as to their usefulness. It is rather to survey as many publications as possible concerning the teaching of music reading in the elementary school and to make a digest of the opinions found in them. In agreement with Mursell's statement that anything can be taught effectively in a considerable number of ways,2 it is the writer's belief that there is no one best method for teaching music reading. The desired outcome of this study is to present an adequate digest of the material published about various methods in order that these lines of thought may be followed as they are needed to fit individual teaching problems.

An Evaluation of Negative Reinforcement During Error Correction Procedures

Maillard, Gloria Nicole 12 1900 (has links)
This study evaluated the effects of error correction procedures on sight word acquisition. Participants were four typically developing children in kindergarten and first grade. We used an adapted alternating treatment design embedded within a multiple baseline design to evaluate instructional efficacy of two error correction procedures; one with preferred items plus error correction and one with error correction only, and a concurrent chain schedule to evaluate participant preference for instructional procedure. The results show that there was no difference in acquisition rates between the procedures. The evaluation also showed children prefer procedures that include a positive reinforcement component.

Měření reakční doby na zvukový podnět u hráčů Goalballu / THE MEASUREMENT OF THE REACTION TIME ON THE AUDITORY STIMULI CONCERNING THE PLAYERS OF GOALBALL.

Hakenová, Pavlína January 2012 (has links)
Title: THE MEASUREMENT OF THE REACTION TIME ON THE AUDITORY STIMULI CONCERNING THE PLAYERS OF GOALBALL. Objectives: The main objective of this paper is the measurement of the reaction time on the auditory stimuli concerning the players of goalball. Another objective is to analyze acquired data and to compare measured values with those measured within the healthy population. The last objective is to compare health groups B1, B2, B3 and productive groups within the premiere league and the players of the goalball representation. Methods: Measurement and analyzing of the acquired data's methods were used in this paper. The reactometer, earphones and the computer with the software that enables to automatically analyze measured data were the main tools used. Acquired data were displayed in the measured values' chart and within the graph on the axis displaying the course of measurement as well. The analyzing method was used to analyze the individual measured outcomes of the reaction time. Results: The final part of this work was based on the three hypotheses. The first hypothesis assumed that the goalball players' reaction speed is faster than within the healthy population. This hypothesis was confirmed. According to measured outcome, from the sample of the healthy population there was not a person who...

Investigating the value of a computer game as introduction to piano learning for developing sight-reading skills in beginner piano students

Myburgh, Ilse 26 April 2013 (has links)
Thesis (M.Mus.)--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Humanities, School of Music, 2012 / This exploratory research project investigated the multifarious effects of incorporating computer music software in the form of a computer game into beginner piano lessons. The design and implementation of an animated computer game, designed by the researcher for the purpose of the study was used to assist young beginner pianists master the layout of the piano keyboard in relation to a score with basic music notation. A detailed description of the game is included. Contributing elements central to knowing, understanding and applying the layout of the piano keyboard when sight-reading were also investigated. A pilot study which formed the basis and point of departure for the study is discussed in detail; the findings of which conclude the report. The results of a case study conducted on two control and experiment groups aged three to six, which involved the use of the specially designed computer game to teach beginner piano students the keyboard layout and introductory notation in the form of an interactive story, is recorded. Through narrative enquiry, a series of interviews with world renowned pianists and piano teachers on the value and importance of sight-reading is expounded. The researcher’s personal reflections on the entire project as well as her own personal philosophy with regard to basic piano tuition, the continued enculturation and propagation of new beginners and sight-teaching are included

Extraordinary powers of perception : second sight in Victorian culture, 1830-1910

Richardson, Elsa January 2013 (has links)
In the mid-1890s the London based Society for Psychical Research dispatched researchers to the Scottish Highlands and Islands to investigate an extraordinary power of prophecy said to be peculiar to the residents of these remote regions. Described in Gaelic as the An-da-shealladh or ‘the two sights’, and given in English as ‘second sight’, the phenomenon was most commonly associated with the vision of future events: the death of neighbour, the arrival of strangers into the community, the success or failure of a fishing trip and so forth. The SPR were not the first to take an interest in this pre-visionary faculty, rather they joined a legion of scientists, travel writers, antiquarians, poets and artists who had made enquires into the topic from the end of the seventeenth century. This thesis examines the remarkably prominent position enjoyed by Scottish second sight in the Victorian popular imagination. In seeking to appreciate why a strange visionary ability was able to make claims upon the attention of the whole nation where other folk motifs were consigned to the realms of specialist interest only, this project charts its migration through a series of nineteenth-century cultural sites: mesmerism and phrenology, modern spiritualism and anthropology, romance literature and folklorism, and finally psychical research and Celtic mysticism. Binding these individual case studies together is a cast of shared actors - Walter Scott, Catherine Crowe, William Howitt, Marie Corelli, Andrew Lang and Ada Goodrich Freer - and a focus on their common investigative and creative cultures. My interest is with how the power of second sight, once defined as a supernatural occurrence tied to the geographically distant and mysterious Scottish Highlands, comes to be transformed by the close of the nineteenth century, into a supra-normal facet of the psyche, potentially accessible and exploitable by all.

Estudo da influência do posicionamento de barreiras rígidas centrais na visibilidade de projeto em rodovias de pista dupla. / Study of the influence of placement of central rigid barriers in project visibility on dual highways.

Matos, Érica Santos 20 February 2013 (has links)
Stopping Sight Distance must be guaranteed throughout of a highway for safety reasons. However, cross section elements can become obstructions which interfere on design sight distances. This occurs when barriers are used instead of medians on bidirectional highways, especially along left curves. Therefore, this paper analyzes the barriers placement on hypothetical scenarios upgrades, plans and downgrades using three-dimensional graphics simulations. The lateral offset of the barrier in relation to the roadway was defined according to each design speed and each radius of the horizontal curve analysis. For each scenario were generated diagrams, which use compared with offset model of fixed objects on horizontal curves presents as recommendation in national manuals. The differences indicate the viability of the methodology used, where the project was considered as a whole, which develops three-dimensionally.

Effects of a Software Program vs. Constant Time Delay in the Acquisition of Sight Words for a Student with Significant Disabilities

Algharbie, Turkie Ali 01 December 2015 (has links)
The development of sight words is essential for individuals with significant disability. There is a plethora of research highlighting the acquisition of sight words for this population but to date, most focus on teacher led interventions (Browder, Algrim-Delzell, Spooner, Mims, & Baker, 2009). This study investigated the use of computer technology vs. one-on-one instruction targeting sight words acquisition for a student with a significant disability. Results showed the participant indicated improved performance using the computer based intervention versus the constant time delay instructor led intervention.
