Effects of a Software Program vs. Constant Time Delay in the Acquisition of Sight Words for a Student with Significant DisabilitiesAlgharbie, Turkie Ali 01 December 2015 (has links)
The development of sight words is essential for individuals with significant disability. There is a plethora of research highlighting the acquisition of sight words for this population but to date, most focus on teacher led interventions (Browder, Algrim-Delzell, Spooner, Mims, & Baker, 2009). This study investigated the use of computer technology vs. one-on-one instruction targeting sight words acquisition for a student with a significant disability. Results showed the participant indicated improved performance using the computer based intervention versus the constant time delay instructor led intervention.

Effects of Error Correction During Assessment Probes on the Acquisition of Sight Words for Students with Moderate Intellectual DisabilitiesWaugh, Rebecca E 25 June 2010 (has links)
Simultaneous prompting is an errorless learning strategy designed to reduce the number of errors students make; however, research has shown a disparity in the number of errors students make during instructional versus probe trials. This study directly examined the effects of error correction versus no error correction during probe trials on the effectiveness and efficiency of simultaneous prompting on the acquisition of sight words by three middle school students with moderate intellectual disabilities. A single-case adapted alternating treatments design (Sindelar, Rosenberg, & Wilson, 1985) was employed to examine the effects of error correction during probe trials in order to reduce error rates. A functional relation was established for two of the three students for the use of error correction during probe sessions to reduce error rates. Error correction during assessment probes required fewer sessions to criterion, resulted in fewer probe errors, resulted in a higher percentage of correct responding on the next subsequent trial, and required less total probe time. For two of the three students, probes with error correction resulted in a more rapid acquisition rate requiring fewer sessions to criterion.

The impact of stimulus set size on efficiency of sight words trainingGuo, Junchen 13 August 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Reading skills are widely recognized as fundamental abilities, crucial not only for academic success but also for participation in social activities and navigating interpersonal challenges. In the early formation of reading abilities, mastery of sight words is instrumental in effectively enhancing reading proficiency, particularly for individuals lacking foundational reading skills. In educational practice, flashcard intervention stands as a widely utilized instructional approach. When Kodak et al. (2020) first introduced the concept of stimulus set size and its impact on the efficiency of skill acquisition interventions, they examined differences in training efficiency among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) when exposed to four distinct stimulus set size conditions. Their findings suggested that larger stimulus set sizes tend to correlate with higher training efficiency. Expanding upon Kodak et al.'s research, the present study transitions this investigation into the context of general education settings, focusing on children's learning of sight words. By comparing the number of training trials, training time, and successful recognition rates among three participants across four different stimulus set size conditions, the study assesses the influence of stimulus set size on the efficiency of sight word training. The results indicate a positive correlation between larger stimulus set sizes and higher training efficiency. Nevertheless, it is imperative to acknowledge the potential constraints on the generalizability of these findings stemming from the homogeneity observed among participants. To fortify the relevance and resilience of the conclusions drawn, forthcoming research initiatives should seek to rectify these limitations by inclusively sampling diverse cohorts. By doing so, the resultant insights can be more effectively applied across various domains, thereby augmenting their broader utility and impact.

Intensiv och systematisk läsintervention vid svenska för invandrare (SFI) : En interventionsstudie med Wendick-modellen / Intensive and Systematic Reading Intervention at Adult Education in Swedish for Immigrants : An Intervention Study with the Wendick ModelBjörnflo, Linn January 2023 (has links)
