<p>Computational Fluid Dynamics is the analysis of a system involving fluid flow, heat transfer and associated phenomena such as chemical reactions by means of a computer-based simulation. The simulations in this study are performed using (CFD) software package FLUENT. The mixture of two gases (Silane gas (SiH4) and Hydrogen gas (H2)) are delivered into the hot-wire chemical vapor deposition system (HWCVD) with the two deposited substrates (glass and Silicon). This process is performed by the solar cells group of the Physics department at the University of the Western Cape. In this thesis, the simulation is done using a CFD software package FLUENT, to model the gas-flow patterns inside the HWCVD system. This will show how the gas-flow patterns are affected by the varying temperature of the heater in each simulation performed in this study under a constant pressure of 60&mu / Bar of the system.</p>

In this work, an electronic gas company was chosen as a research objective to
understand how to execute the strategic planning and competition in an emerging market
such as solar cell industry. First, individual industrial analysis was carried out for both
electronic gas industry and solar cell industry, which provide the connections and
characteristics between these two industrial segments.
A project was selected as an example for detail explanation. It covers the initial
competition attitudes of individual competitors; the crisis of silane shortage during the
new industry segment emerging; how our company deals with the shortage crisis; how to
identify the penetration strategies through a series of sales tactics and to confine the
competitor advantages in order to obtain the maximum profit.
In the conclusions, the track of competition planning was reviewed and the
characteristics of gas industry were categorized for future research interests. Meanwhile,
related theories were used to compared and contrasted in order to support the business
case from the academic approach. At the end, a summary of competition review was
included to outline how the organization rigidity causing an near-miss crisis to the overall
strategic planning; why the early engagements to the emerging industrial segment is
extremely critical to the electronic gas company; how the front line sales and marketing
personnel to identify the business opportunities; also how to obtain the necessary
resources in an internal competition.

STRETCHABLE AND TRANSPARENT SILICONE/ZINC OXIDE NANOCOMPOSITE FOR ADVANCED LED PACKAGINGZhao, Xueying 08 August 2014 (has links)
At present, one of the key challenges in the light-emitting diode (LED) packaging technology is light extraction due to the difference in index of refraction between LED chip and air. Silicone nanocomposites have been extensively researched for applications in LED encapsulant to reduce such difference in refractive index. It is well-known that silicone is desirable for LED encapsulant because of its optical transparency and photothermal resistance. However, not much has been accomplished to leverage the elastic properties of silicone for enabling a stretchable LED encapsulant. In this work, I aim to investigate the stretch ability of silicone/zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposites for LED packaging. Wurtzite ZnO nanoparticles were prepared in colloids and subjected to silane treatment. Effects of both ex situ and in situ silane treatment on the final mechanical and optical properties of the silicone/ZnO nanocomposites were examined. Silicone/ZnO nanocomposites exhibit significantly more compliant stress-strain behavior than silicone control. In particular, silicone/silane-treated ZnO nanocomposites show more serrated stress-strain curves. They also embrace higher transmittance than silicone/unmodified ZnO nanocomposites, indicating an improvement in the dispersion of the nanoparticles. It was found that the silicone/5% silane-treated ZnO nanocomposite prepared by an in situ method was able to deform over a range of up to 160%. The film made of this unique silicone/ZnO nanocomposite (~40 microns thick) exhibits transmittance >70% throughout the visible range.
