Implementation and Evaluation of a Continuous Code Inspection Platform / Implementation och utvärdering av en kontinuerlig kodgranskningsplattformMelin, Tomas January 2016 (has links)
Establishing and preserving a high level of software quality is a not a trivial task, although the benefits of succeeding with this task has been proven profitable and advantageous. An approach to mitigate the decreasing quality of a project is to track metrics and certain properties of the project, in order to view the progression of the project’s properties. This approach may be carried out by introducing continuous code inspection with the application of static code analysis. However, as the initial common opinion is that these type of tools produce a too high number of false positives, there is a need to investigate what the actual case is. This is the origin for the investigation and case study performed in this paper. The case study is performed at Ida Infront AB in Linköping, Sweden and involves interviews with developers to determine the performance of the continuous inspection platform SonarQube, in addition to examine the general opinion among developers at the company. The author executes the implementation and configuration of a continuous inspection environment to analyze a partition of the company’s product and determine what rules that are appropriate to apply in the company’s context. The results from the investigation indicate the high quality and accuracy of the tool, in addition to the advantageous functionality of continuously monitoring the code to observe trends and the progression of metrics such as cyclomatic complexity and duplicated code, with the goal of preventing the constant increase of complex and duplicated code. Combining this with features such as false positive suppression, instant analysis feedback in pull requests and the possibility to break the build given specified conditions, suggests that the implemented environment is a way to mitigate software quality difficulties.

Source code quality in connection to self-admitted technical debtHrynko, Alina January 2020 (has links)
The importance of software code quality is increasing rapidly. With more code being written every day, its maintenance and support are becoming harder and more expensive. New automatic code review tools are developed to reach quality goals. One of these tools is SonarQube. However, people keep their leading role in the development process. Sometimes they sacrifice quality in order to speed up the development. This is called Technical Debt. In some particular cases, this process can be admitted by the developer. This is called Self-Admitted Technical Debt (SATD). Code quality can also be measured by such static code analysis tools as SonarQube. On this occasion, different issues can be detected. The purpose of this study is to find a connection between code quality issues, found by SonarQube and those marked as SATD. The research questions include: 1) Is there a connection between the size of the project and the SATD percentage? 2) Which types of issues are the most widespread in the code, marked by SATD? 3) Did the introduction of SATD influence the bug fixing time? As a result of research, a certain percentage of SATD was found. It is between 0%–20.83%. No connection between the size of the project and the percentage of SATD was found. There are certain issues that seem to relate to the SATD, such as “Duplicated code”, “Unused method parameters should be removed”, “Cognitive Complexity of methods should not be too high”, etc. The introduction of SATD has a minor positive effect on bug fixing time. We hope that our findings can help to improve the code quality evaluation approaches and development policies

Framework and Tools for IT Security within Logistics and Infrastructure oriented Operations : With a focus on Static Application Security TestingSeger, Elias, Schedin, Fredrick January 2022 (has links)
Static Application Security Testing Tools (SAST) is a security tool that claims to help with security in an IT system. Static Application Security Testing tools are technical solutions that operate within the continuous integration of the system. The tool uses frameworks such as OWASP and CWE to detect common vulnerabilities in the codebase by analysing code in the building and testing phase of continuous integration. The problem with SAST tools is that there are many different beliefs surrounding them. Some say they are crucial for security, while some believe they are less helpful and can even inhibit projects by introducing false positives. This thesis determines if SAST tools are an effective solution to security problems within in an IT system. The focus was on logistics- and infrastructure-oriented operations, which the partner company Triona operates within. We use literature review to look at previously similarly conducted research combined with interviews with experienced people within the fields. This gives qualitative results that coupled with previous research can be generalized. The results show that SAST tools are effective tools if used responsibly. Both the literature and interviews conclude that SAST tools are not enough on their own to satisfy the security requirements but must be combined with responsible use of the tools as well as code reviews and other types of testing. SAST tools are also shown to have some problems, mainly false positives, and false negatives. There are also problems related to the implementation of the tools. These problems are costs that comes with implementation, as well as the time spent on it. Other problems are bad communication with developer teams that led to developers not knowing what to do in case of errors shown by the tool. Interviews conducted provides information that SAST tools are not only tools for security but also helps with manageability of code bases.

OAuth 2.0 Authentication Plugin for SonarQubeLavesson, Alexander, Luostarinen, Christina January 2018 (has links)
Many web services today give users the opportunity to sign in using an account belonging to a different service. Letting users authenticate themselves using another service eliminates the need of a user having to create a new identity for each service they use. Redpill Linpro uses the open source platform SonarQube for code quality inspection. Since developers in the company are registered users of another open source platform named OpenShift, they would like to authenticate themselves to SonarQube using their OpenShift identity. Our task was to create a plugin that offers users the functionality to authenticate themselves to SonarQube using OpenShift as their identity provider by applying the authentication framework OAuth. Theproject resulted in a plugin of high code quality according to SonarQube’s assessment. RedpillLinpro will use the plugin to easily access SonarQube’s functionality when using theapplication in their developer platform.
