Atliekų rūšiavimo eksperimentas Šiaulių mieste / Waste sorting experiment in Šiauliai city

Pociūtė, Ida 18 June 2013 (has links)
In thesis were analized the documents of Europian Union law which are regulating waste management and policy of waste management in Europe. Were analyzed the waste management system in Lithuania and Šiauliai city. In april month were performed the waste management experiment in Šiauliai city. Objects of experiment were choosen by their financial position, life habits and family composition. After experiment, objects were compared with each other and statistics of Šiauliai city. After results analyzing were assessed that bigest infuence to quality of waste sorting makes indifference of opportunityes in waste sortingand importance of this. Also the objects of experiment sayed that they have lack of the time, because of fast life rate and they had any motivation to make waste sorting. To get better situation of waste sorting in Šiauliai city suggestions is: organizing waste sorting education in schools and house communitys, people should avoid waste, buy low-packed products, get affirmative examples of other EU countries.

An Interactive Approach For Multi-criteria Sorting Problems

Keser, Burak 01 May 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This study is concerned with a sorting problem / the placement of alternatives into preference classes in the existence of multiple criteria. An interactive model is developed to address the problem, assuming that the decision maker has an underlying utility function which is linear. A recent methodology, Even-Swaps, which is based on value tradeoff is utilized in the model for both making an estimation of the underlying utility function and generating possible dominance among the alternatives on which it is performed. Convex combinations, dominance relations, weight space reduction, Even-Swaps and direct decision maker placements are utilized to place alternatives in preference classes. The proposed algorithm is experimented with randomly generated alternative sets having different characteristics.

Configuration and Implementation Issues for a Firewall System Running on a Mobile Handset

Martinsen, Pal-Erik January 2005 (has links)
Any device connected to the Internet needs to be protected. Using a firewall as a first line of defence is a very common way to provide protection. A firewall can be set up to protect an entire network or just a single host. As it is becoming more and more popular to connect mobile phones and other hand held devices to the Internet, the big question is;"how to protect those devices from the perils of the Internet?" This work investigates issues with the implementation of a firewall system for protecting mobile devices. Firewall administration is an error prone and difficult task. Setting up a correctly configured firewall in a network setting is a difficult task for a network administrator. To enable an ordinary mobile phone user to set up a firewall configuration to protect his mobile phone it is important to have a system that is easy to understand and warns the user of possible mistakes. Generic algorithms for firewall rule-set sorting and anomaly discovery are presented. This ensures that the rule-set is error free and safe to use. This is a vital part of any firewall system. The prototype developed can be used to find errors in existing firewall rule-sets. The rule-set can be in either a native firewall configuration format (currently only IPF is supported) or in a generic XML format. This generic XML format was developed as a part of this research project. Further a new graphical visualization concept that allows the end user to configure an advanced firewall configuration from a device with a small screen and limited input possibilities is presented.

Credentials and Learning in the Labour Market for Young Australians

Cheung, Stephen January 2006 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / This thesis reports two tests of information-based theories of the returns to education, in the labour market for young Australians. The first is a test of whether these returns increase discontinuously with credentials such as high school graduation and university degrees. The second is a test of employer learning based upon how the returns to education, and to measures of ability not initially observed by employers, evolve with experience. These tests are conducted using a new data source which tracks individuals during the years in which they are entering and establishing themselves in the labour market, the period during which such credential and learning effects are most likely to be important. It is found that there are large and highly significant credential returns to completion of bachelor’s degrees, of 14% for males and 10% for females. For males, around 39% of the returns to 15 years of education (relative to 9 or fewer years) are attributable to credential effects, while the corresponding figure for females is 36%. These effects are stronger among workers who were recruited through hiring channels that convey less initial information to employers. There is also evidence that post-secondary admission or attendance without completion of a credential may itself have a sorting effect in the labour market. In the employer learning estimates, when parental education is used as a measure of ability observed by the researcher but not initially by employers, it is found to become increasingly correlated with wages as experience accumulates. However, no such result is found when a standardised test score is used as the ability variable – apparently because the information captured by this score is already observed by employers at the time of labour market entry. When the model is estimated separately by occupational class, the finding of employer learning holds only among white-collar workers. This may be due to the types of attributes that are reflected in parental education as a measure of initially unobserved ability.
