Identification of failure modes to apply condition monitoring methods on critical components of a hydraulic stamping press machine

de Figueiredo Tomás, Diogo January 2020 (has links)
This thesis is the result of a four months internship in a company that aims to transform technology into value for industry. The industries face a wide range of engineering challenges. The requirements and competitiveness of the industry demands high dependability of the assets. During operations of hydraulic stamping presses, unexpected failures may happen, affecting the production and the overall equipment effectiveness, and therefore, the objectives of the company. It might have serious repercussions, both monetary and reputational, this last one normally difficult to recover from. That is the reason why it is important to find solutions which can prevent these situations to happen. One of the challenges with hydraulic press stamping machines is that there are multiple failure modes that affect the machine dependability. There is a big variety of sensor technologies available in the market, that can be used to monitor the health condition of the hydraulic stamping press machines, providing decision makers with reliable information to coordinate maintenance activities. However, it is required to the users to know the specific condition monitoring methods for each failure mode. The present thesis has the purpose to identify and propose strategies in order to leverage the dependability of hydraulic stamping press machines, to achieve the performance objectives. It serves also as base for the creation of future maintenance plans. The first step is to understand the system operation under study, and then identify failure modes that might happen in the asset. The next step is to select and suggest condition monitoring methods to monitor the machine’s failure modes. Based on this information, excellence in the planning of maintenance and production can be achieved. The Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method and the Failure Modes, Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) were used in present thesis to assess failure modes, criticality and prioritize maintenance interventions. The thesis work presents condition monitoring methods for the analysed subsystems of the stamping press machine. The failure analysis of the subsystems and the proposed condition monitoring methods were based on the related literature and technical staff recommendation. How proposed condition monitoring methods can be complemented with further analysis is discussed. A qualitative approach was used to rank the selected subsystems and components based on their criticality. As a conclusion, the slide of the guide rail was considered the most critical component. The reason is that all the press operation is based on force and guiding precision.

Understanding Proximity in Research Consortia : A case study of proximity dimensions within the AddLife Competence Centre

Cannataro, Loris January 2020 (has links)
Today’s knowledge creation process has become extremely complex. On the one hand, technological innovation increasingly requires the use of complementary expertise from several apparently unrelated fields. On the other, the magnitude of the challenges that research and development present often require a large amount of resources that single actors can hardly achieve by themselves. For these reasons, the popularity of collaborative research has increased greatly in recent years. Among the many forms of collaborative research adopted today, research consortia are the most used. Given the steady increase of this trend, it has become important to understand the dynamics at play in research consortia. In particular, it is crucial to understand how participants interact with each other and the implication of such interactions on the success of a consortium’s outcome. The following study utilises a proximity-based framework to the single case study of the AddLife Competence Centre, an Uppsala University based R&D consortium for the development of Additive Manufacturing technology applied to Life Science. The data was collected by conducting eleven semi-structured interviews of AddLife participants. This study begins by presenting an overview of the literature on collaborative network, collaborative research and proximity. It moves onto analysing the interactions of actors in AddLife as a triple helix arrangement. Next, linkages between actors are expressed in terms of organisational, cognitive and social proximity. The analysis is discussed and presented as follows: uncertainty and discrepancies can lower organisational proximity, while the lack of goals alignment can lower cognitive proximity. High social proximity can mitigate the effects of both, especially in case of opportunistic behaviour. Acting on these three proximity dimensions should be prioritised over other proximity trade-offs.

Klarström Dahlin, Anette January 2020 (has links)

Angel, Mattias, Berggren, Albert January 2020 (has links)
Destination management organizations (DMOs) are usually structured by two or more member-organizations. One of the main tasks for a DMO is to market the destination. Social medias have changed the way a lot of organizations manages their marketing. Communication has gone from a static one directional, from the producer to the consumer, to a more dynamic two-way communication where the interaction between the two parts has become more important. In this paper we examine how swedish regional DMOs use social medias in their marketing. The empirical data has been gathered by qualitative semi-structured interviews with persons who work with marketing at four different swedish regional DMOs. This has been combined with analysis of the concerned DMOs social media pages on Facebook and Instagram. The results show that the different organizations have both similarities and differences in their strategic and operative use of social media in marketing efforts. /
2020-06-08
