Hotell Mariefred / Hotel Mariefred

Hederus, Jim January 2015 (has links)
In this project I have decided to work with a taller building in order to get a view towards the park, the Lake Mälaren, and to create a connection to the city castle. The building has many open spaces that enables room for art and socializing. In the hotel, with its combined exhibition hall, you are able to hold workshops or show exhibitions from the nearby graphic workshop and artist studio, Grafikens Hus. The main idea of the project is to take care of the cultural and artistic values of Mariefred, the history of the city and urban life, and combine these with commercial purposes. With studio workshops and an exhibition hall associated to the hotel - conditions are created to increase the attractiveness to the city. The hotel can through communication with visitors give attention to and visualize the cultural history of Mariefred, for example the 16th century Gripsholm castle, an important part of Sweden’s cultural heritage. The hotel will have a cultural function in the way the exhibition hall creates a meeting point/sight worth seeing for artists as well as visitors to the city. The relation to the city and the castle is an important part of the context since the Swedish royal court often acted as patron to the cultural values of the city. A silk factory was in the 18th century for example started after a letter by king Karl IX regarding introduction of tax exemptions. Architecture and art can in this project so to speak go hand in hand.

Calleberg, Kerstin January 2016 (has links)
This paper contains geophysical analysis of the largest town square in Sigtuna, Sweden. The studied area is approximately 736 m2. The purpose of the study was to search for early medieval house remnants and to possibly find structures matching those found during excavations in other parts of the town. The hypothesis is that the town of Sigtuna was planned and that the yards of the town were put out in a special pattern following the main street, which is the same as today. During the day of the geophysical prospection the weather conditions were not optimal. A lot of water at the surface disturbed the instrument and gave a blurred image. It turned out that a lot of contemporary pipes and a large traffic island from the 1930s covered the area. Archaeological structures could only be seen in smaller areas in between later structures. Vague oblong structures could be seen, as well as a distinct smaller square on the eastern part of the area. A large rectangle close to the main street was also observed. None of these structures could be seen in modern maps or photographs and are therefore marked as something that could be of archaeological interest. Some of the structures that were noted were probably part of the original medieval town plan, as judged by their size and location.
