Guiding Network-Centrtic Architectural Design: a Style-Based Approach

Chigani, Amine 13 February 2008 (has links)
With the advance of reliable network technology, software development has progressed from traditional, platform-centric software construction to network-centric software evolution. An evidence of this change is largely reflected in the technologies that are supporting the emerging theory of Network-Centric Operations (NCO). Amongst these technologies is software architecture as a software engineering sub-discipline. Although the concepts of network centricity are widely recognized within the software and system engineering communities, no unified characterization of network-centric software systems is unanimously adopted. The state-of-the-practice is characterized by differing interpretations about how we should design and implement this class of systems. In this research, our focus is twofold: 1) Providing a characterization framework to reason about network-centric software systems and 2) introducing one solution approach to designing this class of system based on a new architectural style, the network-centric architectural style. In so doing, we set the stage for the software architecture community to analyze the "fitness of use" of current architectural styles and architecture design practices within this new network-centric paradigm. In addition, we set the stage for our continued research that will address further software engineering challenges pertinent to network-centric software systems, which include capability-based requirements engineering and quality attributes-based design. / Master of Science

Den digitaliserade grafiskaprofilen / The digital style guide

Lindgren, Elina, Sheremet, Angelina January 2017 (has links)
In today's digital society it is vital for companies to reach out on the digital platforms. To do so the material in the brand manual requires a digital adaptation to meet the requirements on the web. Static PDF:s are still common when it comes to style guides, which is an ineffective method of compiling and sharing your graphic material. This survey was conducted with the purpose to understand how a digitalized graphic style guide should look like and what kind of material and information it should contain in order to be classified as digital. A qualitative analysis of digital elements in graphic profiles was performed with the aim to evaluate how digitalized the material is in today's style guides. In addition, interviews were conducted with advertising agencies who work with branding in order to find out how well they were updated with the digital development. Results of the survey indicated the importance with digitalized material including a digital platform for the material to be compiled on. Important factors for the platform was its interactivity and user friendliness as well as downloadable content. The material of the graphic profile should be adapted for all channels which means that the digital part should be a main key in the process and creation of the graphic identity.

Design systems from a developer’s perspective : What aspects of communication between developers and designers need to change in order to prevent communication breakdown when creating design systems?

Ziegler, Antonia, Atanasov, Yordan Nikolov January 2021 (has links)
Design systems have gained traction in the last few years. They have been primarily used by big tech companies to improve collaboration between designers and developers and to speed up the development process of their digital products. There is no formal definition of what a design system is and what it should entail as of the time of writing. It is believed that communication breakdown during the creation of design systems occurs because designers and developers do not understand each other’s fields of expertise. The purpose of this study is to explore common aspects that cause communication breakdown between developers and designers when creating a design system. The method of choice for this study is semi- structured interviews conducted with frontend/web developers, exploring their views and experiences. The results of this study indicate that there are both similarities and differences between peoples’ views on design systems and that the lack of understanding of a developer's field of work can be seen as an aspect that can cause a communication breakdown. Furthermore, the results imply that one of the factors which can contribute to a more successful understanding of the handoff for developers is the visualization of the design. The major limitations of this study are the lack of scientific literature on the topic of design systems as well as the limited number of participants.

Developing and evaluating a style guide for chatbots deployed in a technical setting

Petäjävaara, Agnes January 2022 (has links)
This study evaluates the perceived credibility of a technical chatbot based on its communication style - the way it interacts with its users embodied through text and emojis. A chatbot’s initial communication style was compared to a humble version. The humble communication style was developed from a design workshop held together with six participants and is presented in this paper as a design style guide. The perceived credibility was divided into six dimensions; Competence, Goodwill, Honesty, Predictability, Reputation, and Trustworthiness. The results from the evaluation of the two chatbot versions showed that the credibility was, in general, perceived higher for the chatbot using a humble communication style. Two exceptions were found; (1) the dimension of Trustworthiness stayed at the same level between the versions, and (2) the dimension of Goodwill was perceived higher for the chatbot not using the humble communication style. The satisfaction with the chatbot was measured and resulted in an NPS of 17 for the chatbot using the humble communication style compared to a negative score of -16 for the chatbot not using it. This study found that a more humble communication style would not harm the perceived credibility of a technical professional chatbot.

Překlady v kontextu institucí EU: Pravidla pro jednotnou úpravu dokumentů a dodržování těchto pravidel / Translation in the context of EU institutions: Interinstitutional Style Guide and its implementation

Schůtová, Blanka January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this master's thesis is to examine the topic of using style guides in institutional translation, especially in the context of translation in the EU institutions. The theoretical part of the thesis first defines institutional translation and then describes the topic of translation in the EU institutions and of translation manuals and style guides in institutional translation in general and specifically in the EU. The empirical part is focused on the analysis of the Interinstitutional Style Guide as a set of rules and guidelines used in institutional translation in the EU institutions; the IISG is also compared with the grammar and spelling rules of the Czech language in the Czech Internet Language Reference Book by the Czech Language Institute of Czech Academy of Sciences. The thesis examines the observance rate of those rules in the Czech language versions of legal documents published in the Official Journal of the EU from 2004 to 2020. The analysis is conducted in a corpus compiled of EU legislative texts through ApSic Xbench. The results of the analysis are then compared to the occurrence of the examined language phenomena in a corpus of original Czech legal documents. The findings shall contribute to the research of the specificities of institutional translation, especially to the...
