Succes Strategies of Elite First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Athletes

Jacko, Maria J. 07 May 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to interview elite First Nations, Inuit, and Métis athletes to gain an in-depth understanding of their personal journeys to excellence. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and a narrative analysis was used to analyze the research findings. The three objectives were to find success strategies, obstacles and advice the elite athletes would provide to Aboriginal youth. The main success strategies were found to be Aboriginal elements, focus, mental preparation for competition, parental support, passion, and positive self-talk. Multiple obstacles were faced by the athletes in this study, with racism and leaving home being the commonalities. The advice they provided for young First Nations, Inuit, and Métis athletes was rich and inspiring. The findings of this study provide useful information for aspiring Aboriginal athletes, and for future ongoing meaningful research, that may lead to reducing the gaps in the literature.

Woman Suffrage and the States: A Resource Mobilization Analysis

Lance, Keith Curry 05 1900 (has links)
This dissertation fills a conspicuous gap in the literature on the U.S. woman suffrage movement by developing and testing a model of state woman suffrage success. This model is based on a version of the resource mobilization perspective on social movements which emphasizes the importance of social movement organizations (such as the National American Woman Suffrage Association) as resource-gathering agencies which can exploit the structure of organized politics by mobilizing their own resources and neutralizing those of opponents. Accordingly, this model taps four alternative types of variables used by woman suffrage scholars to explain state success: state political structure, NAWSA mobilization, and liquor and allied interests (opponents of woman suffrage) as well as demographic characteristics.

Úspěšnost týmu v závislosti na individuálních výkonech hráčů na jednotlivých postech v 1. lize volejbalu mužů a žen / Team succes depending on individual performance of the players in each position in the 1st league of men's and women's volleyball

Prokopová, Jolana January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the direct dependence of the match outcome on the success of players in individual positions, moreover, the thesis also examines whether it is possible for an individual's performance to influence the outcome. This will show which playing positions and their activities are most important for the development and outcome of the match. Furthermore, this work will compare the results of male and female category and explain the difference in these categories. For the practical part, a statistical method has been created, by which the necessary data were gathered during the matches of Dobřichovice women's and men's first league teams. The collected data for each category were then evaluated, the categories were compared with each other and conclusions were drawn. The acquired data from this diploma thesis could subsequently help with creating training units in the training process. By composing this thesis, the author has verified a multitude of information gained through her volleyball practice. Key words: volleyball, player, position, success rate
