Critical Success Factors For Partnering In The Turkish Construction Industry

Eren, Koksal 01 September 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Partnering is in the agenda of many construction companies worldwide as it is an effective strategy that may increase competitiveness of partner companies and reduce risks retained by each party. In order for partnering to reach its expected benefits, partner selection is of vital importance. Similarly, there are some critical success factors (CSF) that should be taken into account by the parties in order to maintain a successful partnership throughout its lifecycle. The aim of this thesis is identification of factors that affect the partner selection process of the Turkish contractors as well as CSFs that are found important by the Turkish contractors. For this purpose, interviews are carried out with experts and a questionnaire is designed to collect necessary statistical data regarding the CSFs. The number of experts who answered the questionnaire is 49. Statistical analysis is conducted to reveal the perception of contractors about partnering in the Turkish construction industry. One of the findings is that Turkish contractors prefer establishing short-term partnerships in the form of project-based joint ventures rather than long-term strategic alliances. Results demonstrate that the most important factors while selecting the partners are experience and image of the company. Mutual trust between the parties, management support and commitment to win-win attitude are identified as the most important CSFs by the Turkish contractors. Finally, the results of the questionnaire are compared with those from other countries and certain strategies are proposed to practitioners for maximizing success of partnerships.

Mobile Government In Turkey: Investigating Critical Success Factors, Drivers And Barriers

Ustun, Anil 01 September 2007 (has links) (PDF)
The number of mobile phone users in Turkey has already exceeded the number of households with the internet access. The presence of technologies which allowed more bandwidth and access from almost everywhere such as UMTS, Wi-Fi, or Wi-Max is putting a pressure on governments to enter into a new direction: m-government. As mobile phone penetration increases, its presence in the public sector is increasingly being viewed as inevitable. In this thesis, a strategic action plan model for the developing countries to achieve success in the development of m-government will be constructed. Meanwhile, critical success factors for Turkey are to be identified by a comparison of selected country cases. Moreoever, drivers and barriers for mobile government in Turkey and the affects of the demographic factors are examined by using the One-Way ANOVA and Pearson Chi-Square tests.

Factors That Affect The Duration Of Cmmi-based Software Process Improvement Initiatives

Karagul, Yasemin 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
Reference models developed for software process improvement (SPI) provide guidelines about what to do while assessing and improving the processes, but they do not answer the questions of how. There have been a number of studies that try to find effective and strategic implementation models or to identify factors that affect the SPI success. However, these studies do not provide answers to questions about the effect of these factors on SPI program duration or accelerated SPI studies. This study aims to investigate the factors that affect CMMI-based SPI duration. It consists of two phases: in the first phase, factors that influence SPI success are identified and hypotheses related to these factors are formulated based on the case studies published in the literature. In the second phase of the study, hypotheses are revised based on the results of the qualitative research conducted in seven companies, six of which have obtained CMMI-Level 3 certification as a consequence of their SPI effort. The study has shown that management commitment and involvement as well as process documentation have had a significant shortening effect on CMMI-based SPI duration, within the context of the studied cases. Software process improvement / CMMI / Success factors / Duration factors. Enter specific words or phrases that are listed in thesis.

Critical Success Factors For Build Operate Transfer (bot) Projects: Lessons Learned From Airport Projects

Kashef, Mohammad 01 August 2011 (has links) (PDF)
BOT model is widely used in developing countries to facilitate the construction of immediately needed infrastructure projects with both technical and financial risks being borne by the private sector. BOT model differs from traditional ones because of its financial structure and operation service that is included in the concession. The aim of this research is to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) for BOT projects by examining real BOT projects, mainly airport projects. In this research, a detailed literature survey has been carried out as well as in-depth interviews with experts to identify the CSFs that are categorized in 13 groups. Based on these factors, a decision support v checklist has been developed. The checklist has the &ldquo / source&rdquo / of each CSF and the &ldquo / phase&rdquo / of the project that the CSF will have an effect. Finally two BOT projects, namely Dalaman and Aktau International Airport Projects, are studied thoroughly using the developed checklist. This research gives clear description and understanding of CSFs for airport projects which was a missing part in the construction management literature together with illustrative real cases. The findings of this research may be helpful for decision makers at the initial stages of BOT projects by providing a checklist of CSFs and demonstrating their significance in each phase of a BOT project.

Hsu, Tsi-chein 26 August 2009 (has links)
Many studies have found that the more well-being of employees, higher productivity. Despite the financial turmoil in 2008, the economic environment is full of uncertainties, however to attract good talents to increase the competitiveness is still a very important goal for many enterprises. Especial in recent years, it¡¦s harder and harder to getting good talents. The enterprises provide the good salary strategy for attracting outstanding talented people. Under the reduction of personnel costs, the outsourcing becomes one of the main approaches for an enterprise in order to keep normal operation."Employee benefits outsourcing" to improve employee satisfaction is an important welfare policy. The main purpose of this study was to explore the key success factors of employee benefits outsourcing. Through the interviews from the field, the study was designed from the point of view of vendors to understand outsourcing factors, enterprises characteristics for the outsourcing and outsourcing processes, for the impact of employee benefits outsourcing. The main conclusions are summarized as follows: 1.Costs are still the main considerations as outsourcing the employee benefit. Generally, the corporations, choosing to outsource employee benefits, have the concept of outsourcing and more attention to the interests of employees. In addition, the employee benefits will be changed by the environment and the times. 2.There is no clear connection for enterprises¡¦ character in outsourcing, such as the size, public or nationality. The research tells us that the corporates to outsource the employee benefits have more respect for the employee benefits as well as all have a concept of outsourcing welfare. 3.From the literature and interviews, the study found that there are fewer differentiations in the outsourcing projects process. The main factor influenced the success of outsourcing is still in whether the enterprises know their actual demand and the vendors are able to clearly catch the demand of outsourcing companies, and provide good recommendations and services. 4.In addition to costs, from the point of view of vendors, another critical success factors for outsourcing is the key person. "The preferences of the key person" will not only affect the "choice of outsourcing vendors", "outsourcing source "and" the acceptance of new service ", but also affect the whole direction of outsourcing.
