Measuring Performance of IT departments in Swedish municipalities

Winkler, Michael January 2010 (has links)
<p>Every modern organization relies on information systems and has a need formeasuring the performance of those systems and the IT department. It is furthermorewanted to be able to compare oneself to others. Municipalities struggle with theabsence of an instrument designed for their specific needs and circumstances becausemost instruments are designed for profit organizations, focus heavily on technical andeconomical criteria and do not involve criteria that are easy to compare. In this projectthe success factor analysis, a performance measurement instrument, is selected, modified and finally applied in two Swedish municipalities to investigate thesignificance of this instrument and its ability to identify significant factors of success. With interpreting the data gathered using on-line surveys, similarities and comparablecriteria as well as eight significant factors could be identified that are genericthroughout all surveys done.</p>

Planning for Information Systems Development : A Framework for supporting the management of Success Factors

Aggestam, Lena January 2002 (has links)
<p>In the information systems development process there are important success factors. By doing an extensive literature survey we have found that these factors emerge mainly from organisational issues concerning the objective of the process and the stakeholders. One factor - to discuss the system, its subsystems and to define the system's boundary - is a prerequisite for all the others. Factors emerging from the objective are mainly about the objective being well analysed and defined, being accepted among the stakeholders and meeting business objectives. Factors emerging from stakeholders are mainly about involving the right stakeholders in the process, achieving a positive attitude and taking care of their needs about knowledge and confidence. Based on this we have developed a framework aiming to guide organisations in what considerations they should make before the project begins. As a result of our framework there will be both a clear objective, which support the business mission, as well as positive stakeholders to support the information systems development process.</p>

How to implement ITIL successfully?

Wang, Jingwen, Khosravi Sereshki, Hami January 2010 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this thesis is to reveal how Information Technology  Infrastructure Library (ITIL) should be implemented in an organization in  an efficient and effective way to achieve the goal of reducing wastage, cutting costs and increasing customers’ satisfaction. There are many books dealing with the ITIL. But these publications do not prescribe how to adopt, adapt or implement the guidelines as part of a service management strategy; it would seem useful to explore implementation strategies which are employed by organizations when they are using ITIL “best practices”.</p><p>This paper seeks to take a study of “How to implement ITIL successfully in organizations”, which could be subdivided into questions of “What steps are necessary to implement ITIL” and “what factors are critical within implementation process”. Although previous researches have made some recommendations generally, this paper investigates the question on that base through comparing consultants’, organizations’ opinion and previous researches.</p><p>This study begins with an overview of ITSM, ITIL, and critical success factors and steps of ITIL implementation. Information about the critical success factors and steps of ITIL implementation were acquired through interviews, emails and questionnaires from responsible staff in some major representative consultancy and organizations.</p><p>The outcomes of our research are fourteen significant steps to implement ITIL and some success factors during implementation, which are vital to have a prosperous ITIL implementation. This research makes a guideline for organizations to understand and carry out the ITIL implementation efficiently.</p>

Online communities : En studie av Lunarstorms framgång

Larsson, Katarina January 2005 (has links)
People all around the world are more and more willing to interact online and the number of online communities are rising with this. Today we have a community in Sweden that is called Lunarstorm, this has become a phenomen not seen anywhere else. Whit its 1,3 million users, it is the absolut biggest in Sweden today. I have in my essay found a number of factors in the litteratur that are essential for an online communities succes. I have also done an empirical study on Lunarstorm as a company and Lunarstorm as a webbsite. I have then in my analys part applyed my success factors on Lunarstorm, to be able to make conclusions about why Lunarstorm have become such a success. What I can see from my researches there is especially three things that makes Lunarstorm speciell, and that is networkeffects, to be the first one and the entire koncept of Lunarstorm.</p>

Reducing the turnaround time in the histopathology service : - Experiences of an improvement process / Förbättring och utveckling av patologiprocessen : - Erfarenheter från en förbättringsprocess

Thureson, Jenny January 2015 (has links)
Today great efforts are made to record and reduce waiting times in cancer care. Long and variable turnaround times (TATs) delay the start of treatment and waiting contributes to mental anguish. The purposes of the QI intervention were to establish an effective and streamlined histopathology process with shorter TATs, to extend customer collaboration and to build knowledge of internal processes in order to lay the foundation for a learning environment. The goal was to raise the proportion of reported tissue samples from 50% to 90% within a 15 day period, ending 31th December 2014. The study of the QI intervention intended to identify factors that affect the introduction of novel working methods. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used to achieve the goals. Improvement knowledge was combined with lean-inspired methods, and two focus groups were arranged in which data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. The goal to report 90% of tissue samples within 15 days was not achieved for all sample types, but improved TATs were clearly noted. Customer collaboration and visualisation of the processes had a positive effect on staff. The study resulted in six key factors important working with QI interventions; competence, compliance, feedback, interaction, patient- and customer focus and resources. Having motivated and dedicated staff is a key success factor for improvement work, in contrast to a lack of resources, and people that oppose change. To achieve future ambitious goals requires continuous improvement initiatives that involve optimisation of both human resources and equipment.

Right food temperature : A case study on an improvement project at a hospital with meal tray distribution system

Tunér, Hans January 2015 (has links)
Introduction Tasty and hygienically safe food is essential to the treatment and comfort of the patient. Patients are commonly weak or impaired and more vulnerable to infections. Food hygiene is a matter of patient safety in hospitals where food temperature is the single most important factor. Meal tray as food distribution system in hospitals offers many advantages but one disadvantage is its ability to maintain proper temperature of the food. Measurements at the studied hospital display substantial variations and significant deviations from acceptable temperatures. Hence, an improvement project was completed in order to improve and stabilize temperatures. Purpose The improvement project was studied in order to describe what phenomena was important to the success for the improvement, according to staff involved and also how patients experience of the food. The aim of the improvement project was to achieve a stable process with proper food temperatures. Methods The quality improvement completed with the PDSA improvement model as overarching theory and method The study was conducted as a descriptive case study with an inductive approach and deductive ingredients. Focus group interview and questionnaires was used for data collection. Qualitative content analysis an descriptive statistics was used for analysis of data. Results The improvement project resulted in substantially temperature improvement, a stable process with desired temperatures was achieved. Yet the focus and the aims for the improvement were adjusted under the project period, the original aims were not achieved completely. The improved temperatures decreased the risk for patients getting infected with food poisoning. The study displayed phenomena that to a great extent are within the influence of the microsystem, as important for the success of the improvement. These where summarized in four categories: Utilization of resources, Interaction and communication, Improvement capability and Participation/involvement. Conclusions A hospital with meal tray distribution system can achieve substantial improvements in food temperature using structured improvement methods. The results of the changes were mainly affected by phenomena that already are described in the quality improvement litterature. Future studies may combine inductive, qualitative approaches with deductive comparisons to phenomena described in literature.

E-commerce strategy implementation : A comparison between theory and practice

Dittberner, Ellen, Johansson, Linda January 2015 (has links)
As a result of the continuous development of the business environment, many traditional organizations decide to implement electronic commerce (ecommerce). Implementing ecommerce successfully may generate highly rewarding results, while an inefficient implementation may lead to endan- germent of the organization's survival. The critical question is therefore what factors that are critical for an ecommerce strategy implementation to succeed. The purpose of this is to investigate what factors that are critical to achieve a successful implementation of an ecommerce strategy in retail businesses. According to this purpose, three research questions have been formulated to arrive at valuable findings within this field. In order to fulfill the purpose of this thesis a qualitative research method with an exploratory approach is being applied, data are collected through case study interviews. The cases are being arrived at by nonprobability sam- pling in form purposive sampling. When comparing critical success factors identified in theory and practice, the result suggests that integrated management teams, culture management, realistic expectation and compensation systems are not critical for success- ful ecommerce implementation. Factors that are critical for success are fi- nancial and time investments, sufficient knowledge and technological skills, committed leadership, communication, SEO, omni-channel, external part- ners and the pre phase.

Hägerström, Sara January 2015 (has links)

Links between modularization critical success factors and project performance

Choi, Jin Ouk 07 July 2014 (has links)
Through the exporting of a portion of site-based work to fabrication shops, modularization (MOD) can enhance efficiency in the construction industry. The industry, however, applies modularization at only a low level. To reach higher levels of modularization, the EPC industry needs new approaches. Previous studies have identified the current trends in and barriers to the industry's application of modularization. Moreover, in 2013, the Construction Industry Institute's (CII) Research Team 283 identified 21 critical success factors (CSFs) that create an optimum environment for a broader and more effective use of modularization. However, the researcher has identified a need to better understand the relative significance of MOD CSFs and their associations with project performance. Thus, the research was conducted to provide recommendations for better project performance by identifying correlations between the accomplishment of MOD CSFs and project performance and examining actual modular projects' MOD CSF accomplishment. This study identified four statistically significant positive correlations. Those are between the accomplishment of MOD CSFs and: 1) cost performance; 2) schedule performance; 3) Construction performance; and 4) Startup performance. In addition to the correlation analysis, the study also identified the CSFs that appear to contribute the most to 1) "Modular Project Success", 2) Construction success, 3) Startup success, 4) Cost performance, and 5) Schedule performance. To collect information on the actual industrial modular projects, the study surveyed industry experts. By using this study, many industrial project stakeholders from owners to fabricators, designers and EPC contractors, will be able to understand the relationships between MOD CSFs and project performance. Such an understanding should motivate them to achieve better project performance through implementing modularization CSFs. / text
