Narvydė, Aurelija 20 June 2012 (has links)
3. Nustatyti taikomosios fizinės veiklos poveikį autistų savarankiškumo įgūdžių ugdymui. Atlikus tyrimą, galima daryti tokias išvadas: 1. Įvertinus, autistų savarankiškumo įgūdžius, atsižvelgiant į amžiaus grupes nustatyta, kad blogais savarankiškumo lygmens rodikliais pasižymėjo 5 – 7 metų vaikai autistai, kai tuo tarpu 4 metų ir jaunesni, bei 8 metų ir... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Work goal – determine the impact of the adapted physical activities onto the training of the autists' skills. Hypothesis – improvement of autistic children's self-sufficiency skills after application of adapted physical activity programme. Work object – Autistic children's self-sufficiency skills. Research problem: Adapted physical activities - training method whose impact onto children with autism disorder has not been sufficiently researched and discussed, though it is claimed that physical activities to autists are equally mandatory as training of communication and interaction, behaviour modification and etc. Currently, we do not have sufficient researches made and information collected about the physical activity skills of the children with autism disorder and their unique needs, barriers arising for physical activities and promotion factors, which activities they prefer and which physical exercises mostly train such children's functional abilities. Research tasks: 1. Evaluate the level of demonstration for the autists' self-sufficiency skills referring to their age groups. 2. Determine and compare the development peculiarities of the autists' self-sufficiency skills and an alteration among assessments referring to the age groups. 3. Determine the impact of the adapted physical activities onto the training of the autists' selfsufficiency skills. After the research such conclusions may be made: 1. After assessing the autists' self-sufficiency skills referring to the age... [to full text]

Economic Risks in the Agricultural Sectors of Emerging Economies: Smallholder Perspectives of Projects Based on Thailand’s ‘Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy’

Egery, Julian 11 June 2014 (has links)
Economic growth in emerging economies has been changing the livelihoods of many smallholders. Typically, disparity increases as economies emerge, and the agricultural sector experiences lower growth relative to other sectors. Growing inequalities and economic vulnerabilities during this critical period of development in emerging economies are often associated with social problems and political tensions, as this is the case in Thailand. In the latter, the Philosophy of Sufficiency Economy (SE) has been employed through the monarchy in a number of ways. Due to laws prohibiting critique of the monarchy, these projects are not fairly evaluated and the perspectives of smallholders affected are largely unknown. Knowledge on the effectiveness of Thailand’s Philosophy of SE in combating the disparity problem and economic vulnerability in the agricultural sectors of emerging economies was gained through semi-structured interviews. An organic farming project run by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), called ISAC follows the principles of Sufficiency Economy, and is located in the Mae Taeng district in the north of the province of Chiang Mai. A sample of 20 farmers from two villages (Don Chiang and San Pa Yang) who participate in the project was interviewed. Questions regarding age and education level of all family members also created a quantitative sample of 72 individuals. An epistemological framework based in critical realism was employed with the use of purposive interview sampling methods Results indicate that employing SE can help a select group of farmers to escape economic vulnerability. This group includes farmers in an older age group with sufficient land and access to guidance. The philosophy may help keep this group of farmers satisfied as the countries economy evolves. The project appears to be sustainable only in the short-term as younger generations seem to be reaching higher levels of education than their elders and are likely to pursue lives outside of agriculture. In addition, some benefits of farming with the principles of SE include, lower financial stress, improved health, and a better family life. Conversely, a decision to live by the principles of SE can lead to a stigmatization of farmers within their community, creating in-groups and out-groups.

Investigating the relationship between market values and accounting numbers for 30 selected Australian listed companies

Clout, Victoria Jane January 2007 (has links)
In capital market research (CMR) studies of the value relevance of accounting numbers are founded upon the concept that, in equilibrium, the book values are equal to or have some long-term relationship with the market value and that market returns are related to book returns. This thesis seeks to resolve a gap in the CMR by examining 30 selected individual firms listed on the Australian stock market during the period 1950 to 2004, using equilibrium correction modelling techniques. Even these limited prior works used cross-sectional techniques rather than the long-run, time-series, analysis used in this study. Moreover, dynamic analysis in the CMR has tended to focus on indexes or portfolio data rather than using firm-specific case study data of the type modelled here. No prior research has taken this approach using Australian data. The results of this thesis indicated that an equilibrium correction relationship between market values and book values for firms listed on the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) could be determined by using accounting and macroeconomic regressors. The findings of the thesis were consistent with the literature in terms of the variables suggested and important in the firm's valuation from the three main approaches, the analysts (industry) approach, the finance and accounting theory (textbook) approach and the CMR literature approach. The earnings, dividends and book value variables are significant in their relationships with the firm's market values. The models constructed were typically more informative and had an increased forecasting performance compared with the a priori models tested, based on theory and the literature.

Trade-offs in sustainable dairy farming systems

Soteriades, Andreas Diomedes January 2016 (has links)
A key challenge facing dairy farming is to meet the increasing demand for dairy products from a growing and more affluent global population in a period of unprecedented socio-economic and environmental change. In order to address this challenge, policies are currently placing emphasis on ‘sustainable intensification’ (SI), i.e. producing ‘more’ outputs and services with ‘less’ resources and environmental impacts. Determining whether or not SI can deliver greater yet sustainable dairy production requires understanding of the relationships between sustainability pillars (environmental; economic; and social) and farm aspects (e.g. on-farm management; and animal productivity) under particular farming systems and circumstances (e.g. regional bio-physical conditions). Trade-offs between pillars and aspects is inevitable within a farming system. Many widely-used assessment methods that aim to measure, scale and weight these pillars and aspects are unable to fully capture trade-offs between them. The objectives of this thesis are: 1) to identify key trade-offs in dairy farming systems to inform greater yet sustainable food production; and 2) to introduce models and methodologies aiming at a more holistic measurement and better understanding of dairy farm sustainability. This thesis assesses the sustainability of French and UK dairy farming systems via a farm efficiency benchmarking modelling framework coupled with statistical analyses. It explores the relationships between pillars, aspects and technical, economic and environmental performance; and identifies important drivers/differentials in dairy farm efficiency. Importantly, it also suggests ways in which farm inputs and outputs can be adjusted so that improvements in environmental, technical and economic performance become feasible. Efficiency benchmarking was performed with the multiple-input – multiple-output productive efficiency method Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). DEA calculates single aggregated efficiency indices per farm by accounting for several farm inputs and outputs which the DEA model endogenously scales and weights. In this work, the notion of farm inputs and outputs was extended to also include ‘undesirable’ outputs (greenhouse gas emissions) and environmental impacts (e.g. eutrophication, acidification etc.) of dairy farming. The DEA models employed belong to the family of ‘additive’ models, which have several advantages over ‘traditional’ DEA models. These include their ability (i) to simultaneously increase outputs and reduce inputs, undesirable outputs and environmental impacts; (ii) to identify specific sources of inefficiency. These ‘sources’ represent a farm’s shortfalls in output production and its excesses in input use and/or in undesirable outputs and environmental impacts, relatively to the other farms; (iii) to position undesirable outputs in the output set rather than consider them as inputs or ‘inverse’ outputs; and (iv) to rank farms by efficiency performance. Importantly, this thesis also proposes a new additive model with a ranking property and high discriminatory power. In a second stage, DEA was coupled with partial least squares structural equation modelling (SEM) so as to develop and relate latent variables for environmental performance, animal productivity and on-farm management practices. The results suggested that the efficacy of SI may be compromised by several on-farm trade-offs between pillars, aspects and farm inputs and outputs. Moreover, trade-offs depended on particular farming systems and circumstances. Increasing animal productivity did not always improve farm environmental performance at whole farm-level. Intensifying production at animal and farm-levels, coupled with high reliance on external inputs, reduced farm environmental performance in the French case, i.e. a significant negative relationship was found between intensification and environmental performance (SEM path coefficients ranged between -0.31 and -0.57, p < 0.05). Conversely, in the UK case, systems representing animal-level intensification (via genetic selection) for increased milk fat plus protein production performed better, on average, than controls of UK average genetic merit for milk fat plus protein production in terms of technical efficiency (DEA scores between 0.91– 0.92 versus 0.78–0.79) and environmental efficiency (scores between 0.92–0.93 versus 0.80), regardless of whether on a low-forage or high-forage diet. The levels of inefficiency in (undesirable) outputs, inputs and environmental impacts varied among farming systems and depended on the regional and managerial characteristics of each system. For instance, in France, West farms had higher eutrophication inefficiencies than East farms (average normalized eutrophication inefficiencies were, respectively 0.141 and 0.107), perhaps because of their more intensive production practices. However, West farms were more DEA-efficient than East farms as the former benefited from bio-physical conditions more favourable to dairy farming (mean DEA score ranks were 97 for West and 83 for East). Such findings can guide policy incentives for SI in different regions or dairy systems. The proposed modelling framework significantly contributes to current knowledge and the search for the best pathways to SI, improves widely-used modelling approaches, and challenges earlier findings based on less holistic exercises.

Identifying green logistics best practice leading to the efficient management of resources and waste in Thailand's public hospitals

Bandoophanit, Thianthip January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this study is to identify green logistics (GL) best practice leading to the efficient management of resources and waste in Thai public hospitals. This work is influenced by and is aligned with the Thailand’s 2nd National Logistics and Supply Chain Research Strategies (2012-2016). The GL practices of six public hospitals were investigated, chosen to give coverage of the different types/sizes, locations and a range of environmental performance issues. Hospital visits were undertaken to collect data by interview, documentation and observation approaches. The GL best practices were principally identified by using developed indicators and a cross-case analysis method. The results of this study showed that resource and waste flows appeared very complicated within Thai hospitals. Thus, effectively introducing and managing GL within these settings requires the coordination of all staff (clinical and other), and the consideration of all environmental impacts from product purchasing through to waste disposal. Many beneficial practices for successfully reducing resource consumption and waste were identified. Key findings were that green initiatives need to be supported by: sufficient environmental education; two-way communication; effective evaluation and recording systems; and Director-level support. Importantly, GL adoption in the Thai context should be grounded in the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy concept (e.g. moderation, wisdom, and happiness), as well as contemporary hospital logistics theory and practice. Finally, it is recommended that the current Hospital Accreditation process is changed to integrate sustainable best practices, and that some pertinent government regulations and policies should be reviewed and changed as they were seen to be counterproductive and indeed in many cases it was proven that the enactment of the policies themselves actually increased waste.

Nerovnosti ve zdraví u vybrané skupiny populace / Inequality in health of a selected population

MAŠKOVÁ, Martina January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of health inequality in the selected population group, which is focused on the elderly. The main objective of the thesis was to examine the characteristics of health inequalities in the selected group of seniors from 60 to 74 years and to identify the existing inequalities in the individual groups as well as the differences between the groups. In the theoretical part was described the issue concerning age inequalities, its causes and consequences. In the practical part of the thesis, this phenomenon was specifically examined on a selected set of respondents at Senior Otrokovice - Seniors Home and in their own homes in Otrokovice. To obtain the data to achieve the goals and verify the hypotheses, a quantitative research survey was used using the anonymous questionnaire method. These were standardized rates of ADL and IADL (Barthel index), then the VAS scale to measure pain intensity was used. Five hypotheses were identified for the research. Quantitative research was evaluated using the statistical program. Research has shown that gender is not a significant change in the perception of one's own health, and also the physical self-sufficiency does not differ according to gender. It has been found that perception of one's own health and physical self-sufficiency depends on whether the person resides in the residential care or in their own household. It was also found that the amount of retirement pension is not gender-based or age-dependent.

Resettlement and Self-Sufficiency: Refugees' Perceptions of Social Entrepreneurship in Arizona

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: This research examined the perceptions of refugees towards social entrepreneurship in Arizona through focus group discussions with 77 members of the refugee communities that have been organized under nine groups. Business experience, problem solving experience, conception of social entrepreneurship, examples, opportunities, support, and needs emerged as the themes of the study. Available opportunities as well as barriers for refugee social entrepreneurship based on the views of refugees in Arizona were explained. The difference between commercial entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship was highlighted and some examples of refugee social entrepreneurship described. Qualitative data analysis revealed that refugees in Arizona have entrepreneurial characteristics such as risk taking, hardworking, problem solving, and determination. They also have a good understanding of commercial entrepreneurship but very little understanding of social entrepreneurship. The findings underlined that social entrepreneurship can be used as a helpful strategy for self-sufficiency of refugees residing in Arizona. Given their life trajectories, refugees in Arizona have high potential to be social entrepreneurs with the right exposure and training. If supported adequately and planned appropriately, the refugee social entrepreneurship project can lead to self-sufficiency and faster integration of participating individuals to the mainstream society. The findings may spark interest among practitioners, policy makers, and scholars. It may redefine refugee social work practices as the passion of enterprising empowers refugees and helps them to discover self-confidence and rebrand their image. Policy makers may consider incorporating refugee social entrepreneurship in to the current self-sufficiency plan for refugee resettlement. Future research needs to investigate how refugee social entrepreneurs can be successful and focus on the measurement of their success. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Social Work 2015

Nitrogen (N) is one of the nutrients extracted in greater quantity by potato and has a great impact on the performance of this crop. The response of the potato crop to the nitrogen fertilization is dependent on several factors, which makes essential the correct management of N, thus maximizing its absorption by the plant. In addition, the application of insufficient or excessively high doses of N may reduce the productivity and quality of the tubers produced and represent damages to the producers and risks to the environment Therefore, the estimation of the need for N, through readings of the relative index of chlorophyll (IRC) in the leaves of the culture, with the portable chlorophyllometer, can be a viable alternative to make N management more accurate. However, there is still a need to establish criteria for the use of this tool in the potato crop. Thus, the objectives of this study were: a) evaluate the correlation between the IRC, obtained by readings of chlorophyll, and the N concentration in leaves of two potato cultivars (Agata e Electra) in various stages of development, and b) evaluate what value (90% or 95%) of N sufficiency index (NSI), calculated based on RCI measures in the leaves regarding the treatment reference, is best suited to indicate the time of N fertilizer in two cultivars potato and hence to higher tuber yields and quality, and N-use efficiency. In the year 2016, during winter season four experiments were carried out in the field conditions, two at Lageado Experimentl Farm (Site 1) and two in a private potato farm (Site 2), both in the municipality of Botucatu. In each site were carried out one experiment with each cultivar. The design used in each experiment will be randomized blocks, with six N managements (M1: 80 kg ha-1 N in the planting furrow + 80 kg ha-1 at 10 days after emergence (DAE) + 80 kg ha-1 at 30 DAE + 80 kg ha-1 at 45 DAE (reference); M2: 80 kg ha-1 N in the furrow + 80 kg ha-1 at 10 DAE (recommended) M3: 160 kg ha-1 N in the furrow (representing the application of 4000 kg ha-1 N-P2O5-K2O formula 04-14-08); M4: 60 kg ha-1 N in the furrow + 40 kg ha-1 when the chlorophyll readings indicate NSI < 90%; M5: 60 kg ha-1 N in the furrow + 40 kg ha-1 when the chlorophyll readings indicate NSI < 95% and M6: control - without N application) and four replications. The RCI, obtained through the chlorophyllometer readings, was positively correlated with the N content in the leaves of the Agata and Electra potato cultivars from 24 DAE. The application of higher doses of N, especially in a piecemeal manner, provided higher amounts of N accumulated and higher yield of tubers of potato, especially in Site 2 for both cultivars, being the chlorophyllometer more accurate to indicate the absence of N deficiency, than the time and need for nitrogen fertilization. The use of the NSI <90%, based on the measurement of the chlorophyllometer in a reference area, allowed to define when N to cover the potato crop in the Agata and Electra cultivars should be applied, improving the efficiency of N utilization, of providing N economy applied without causing a reduction in tuber yield when compared to the reference treatment (without N deficiency) and to the N dose recommended for cultivation.

Métodos de avaliação do estado nutricional para o algodoeiro no centro-oeste do Brasil /

Silva, Marcos Antonio Camacho da. January 2006 (has links)
The cotton is an agricultural product in development for Brazil and has significant contribution for Brazilian economy. With the objective to establish DRIS norms and references values for nutritional status availability for cotton crop, this study used commercial areas in the north of the Mato Grosso do Sul state and center-south of the Mato Grosso state, applying the mathematical chance method and the DRIS for nutritional analysis data. The mathematical chance method calculated the cotton sufficiency range, in g kg-1, of 33-45; 2,8-5,3; 15-21; 20-36; 4,0-7,2 and 2,8-8,6 for N, P, K, Ca, Mg e S, and in mg kg-1, of 53-83; 4-12; 110-440; 40-60 and 25-50 for B, Cu, Fe, Mn e Zn. The range furnishing values that can not be obtained by conventional research in short time and the range obtained can be used in the Brazilians production systems. However, it is indicated that these values would be adjusted constantly for supplying the system specificity. For DRIS, the results indicated that the choice for nutrient ratio modify the data interpretation, but the nutritional balance index has correlation. The r value isn't recommended. The DRIS indicated limitation provable for Ca, Mg and S, but the Ca and S is furnished normality by liming. / Orientador: William Natale / Coorientador: Euclides Braga Malheiros / Banca: Ondino Cleante Bataglia / Banca: Takashi Muraoka / Banca: José Carlos Barbosa / Banca: Mara Cristina Pessoa da Cruz / Doutor
