Study on the Hitting Effect of the Sweet Spot on the Baseball Bat

The purpose of this study is to analyze baseball collision by using finite element method, and investigate batting effect on the sweet spot on the bat and then change the baseball geometry parameter. In addition, the researcher would like to investigate the effect of flight on batted ball by changing swing parameter. LS-DYNA is used to simulate collision on the different position on the bat after using SolidWorks to build modal, then compare the results to locate the exact position of sweet spot on the bat. By building different weight, length and radius of bat barrel, and simulate collision individually, the researcher wishes to investigate the influence of changing bat geometry parameter to batting effect on sweet spot. At last changing the undercut distance and bat swing angle, two of the swing parameter, to simulate collision, and the results of collision are used to get flight trajectory by numerical method, then analyze the influence of changing swing parameter to batted ball range. This study can provide bat geometry characteristic, swing information, and a reference for choosing a baseball bat, even help adjust batting feel for the batter.

Analysis of Golf ImpactPhenomenon and Club Head Design

The purpose of this study is to integrate the efficiency of the computer-aided design software Pro Engineer and the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA on the structural design of the golf club head. By means of the parametric design characteristics of Pro Engineer, various thickness and different shapes of the golf club head have been studied. The impact model will extract the ball velocities and spins for a given hit location on the club face which is analyzed by the software LS-DYNA. After that, the factors for influencing the dynamic analysis, such as the thickness and the shape of the hitting face, the off-center hitting, the ball velocity and spin, the stress distribution, and stress propagation in the head are further identified and measured. Finally, the effects of the factors described above have been analyzed quantitatively to investigate the maximum velocity of the ball and the sweet spot of the golf club head.

Analysis of Impact Effect to Varied Thickness of Golf Club Head

ABSTRACT The substance of this study is to analyze the impact process between golf club head and golf ball by integrating the capability of the CAD software I-DEAS and the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA. The various golf club head can be created much easily by determined the dimension parameter in the variable-parameter characteristics of I-DEAS. The computational cost can be reduced by explicit central difference method of LS-DYNA. This study is to analyze the impact effect of varied thickness based on Taguchi method of experimentation and off-center hit in difference volume club head. After that, the hitting area, the sweet spot of club head and influencing factors of impact effect are discussed. It is expected that the findings of the study may provide engineers with some effective method to deal with golf club head design.

I exhale. In the corner is a pile of cardboard boxes that I had just opened up. Stretched across the floor are many carefully measured lines of white duct tape. On the computer are countless browser tabs - from waves articles to small forums - telling me how to set up my new speakers. Equidistant triangles and other exact angles. All that is left to do is calibrate the volume so that each speaker reaches me equally. You see, I had decided to jump into surround sound. The thought of having a little personal cinema in my apartment to play with was not possible to pass on. I remember then sitting down in front of my digital audio workstation, with speakers surrounding me, and thinking.... Nowwhat? I had no idea what to do with it, what sound was supposed to go where, whether it should move or be still. I experimented with many surround things, never reaching a definite answer. I would go to the cinema to listen to other films - for research - but most of the time the sound never filled the room or left the screen, it is the spatial element of which I was mostly keen. What a waste. In the pursuit of discovering what surround means to me, the intimacy it can bring to a room; why mainstream films use it shyly, or don't use it at all.
