Null subjects in Brazilian Portuguese display a puzzling distribution that has not been
fully accounted in current literature. In short, null subjects are seen in different patterns
in matrix and embedded clauses. Furthermore, declaratives and questions also show a
different distribution of null subjects, and WH movement seems to play a part in blocking
null subject licensing in questions. This work aims to propose a solution to this puzzle
by presenting a model centered around φ-feature and discursive (δ) feature interaction at
the Left Periphery. The main historical assumption being that BP displays properties of
a discursive-oriented language, an hypothesis based on the extended contact the language

I argue that the shift of explanatory burden from the generator to the evaluator in OT syntax – together with the difficulties that arise when we try to formulate a working theory of the interfaces of syntax – leads to a number of assumptions about syntactic structures in OT which are quite different from those typical of minimalist syntax: formal features, as driving forces behind syntactic movement, are useless, and derivational and representational economy are problematic for both empirical and conceptual reasons. The notion of markedness, central in Optimality Theory, is not fully compatible with the idea of synactic economy. Even more so, seemingly obvious cases of blocking by structural economy do not seem to result from grammar proper, but reflect (economical) aspects of language use.

Tato práce si klade za cíl navrhnout a implementovat experimentální programovací jazyk s podporou uživatelsky definovaných syntaktických konstrukcí. Nový jazyk je kompilován do nativní binární podoby a vyžaduje statickou typovou disciplínu v době překladu. Jazyk se skládá ze dvou hlavních komponent. První z nich je minimalistické jádro založené na principech zásobníkově orientovaných jazyků. Druhou částí je mechanismus pro definici nových syntaktických konstrukcí uživatelem. Poté jsou shrnuty poznatky nabyté při návrhu a experimentování s prototypem překladače tohoto jazyka.

The dissertation called the Method of Integration of Valency Syntax into the Czech Language Teaching within Lower Secondary Education deals with the issue of valency syntax in relation to syntax teaching within lower secondary education. The main goal of the dissertation is to describe, specify and define the principles, which serve as the basis for the integration of the valency theory into the Czech language teaching within lower secondary education with regard to pupils' concepts of the structure of a Czech sentence. In its three main parts, the dissertation informs the reader about the development of the perception of the valency syntax as a scientific discipline in the Czech and foreign environment, as the didactic transformation of the curriculum must be always based on scientific theories and comply with them; the second part of the thesis analyses the didactically transformed curriculum of valency syntax in teaching materials intended for lower secondary education. On the basis of a practical quality research, the third part defines pupils' preconcepts related to the formal and semantic structure of a sentence. `Kinds of objects and their meanings´ deals with objecthood in Kiswahili. From a syntactic point of view, there is but one kind of object: the distinction between `direct´ and `indirect´ object has no syntactic properties, and one verb can have only one object. Of course, objects can have different semantic roles. This raises questions about the syntactic and semantic functions of `naked´ non-objects, and some of these are approached by inspecting fifty examples of the verb kutia `to put [sth] [into]´ from Sacleux´s dictionary. Three syntactic and semantic frames are distinguished and the respective roles of the arguments are described. Finally, there is a brief discussion about the meaning of the object as such and how it is influenced by the presence of the applicative extension.
