The purpose of this study is to determine the philosophy, history, recent development and modern trends of story-telling in the primary grades.

This study examines short stories from various Zimbabwe women writers and explores how these stories depict the socioeconomic and political status of women in postcolonial Zimbabwe. I argue that storytelling is truth-telling, as shown by the analysis of the stories. Through political consciousness and African feminism, the women writers use various shifting narrators as a strategy of presenting the ongoing struggles of corruption, domestic violence, mental health issues, HIV/ AIDS, rape, bad governance, and other ongoing struggles in Zimbabwe. Petina Gappah’s An Elegy of Easterly is a story collection that helps the reader to understand the social context in which women are oppressed and exploited in postcolonial Zimbabwe. Similarly, Irene Stauton’s Women Writing Zimbabwe, Tsitsi Nomsa Ngwenya’s The Fifty Rand Note and Other Short Stories, and Samantha Rumbidzai Vhazure’s Turquoise Dreams Anthology of Short Stories focus on fighting for women’s rights and human rights through writing. Political activists are silenced through persecutions and abductions, so to avoid such consequences, fiction is used for political activism. The sociocentric notion that women are only fighting against their oppression and exploitation is now outdated as 21st century women writers are also political analysts who are fighting bad governance and corruption, which means they are advocating for the society at large.

The purpose of this study was to teach telling time to the hour, half-hour, quarter to the hour, and to 5 min to students with austim spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental disabilities using video modeling (VM). Two research questions were asked: 1. Is there a functional relation between VM and increases in level and trend for telling time to the hour, half-hour, quarter hour, or 5 min for students with ASD and/or other developmental disabilities? 2. Will the use of the VM help students reach criterion on the task analytic steps for the process of telling time? A multiple probe (days) across participants design was used evaluate the effectiveness of the VM. The results showed student improvement of telling time, but no functional relation was found. The results showed improvement of telling time once System of Least Prompts was added to the VM.

Due to the social uncertainties caused by Taiwan¡¦s economic recession and rapid social changes, many people try to seek solace in fortune telling, which they believe can bring them peace of mind. Therefore, how to provide a high quality and high credibility fortune-telling environment lest people should be swindled by ill-intentioned fortune tellers is a public policy and a social responsibility that the government shouldn¡¦t evade. In terms of the great influence of Chinese Numerology on Taiwanese people and its great demand, I suggest in my research paper that an environment suitable for the development of Chinese Numerology be provided in Taiwan society. In this way, the mid-term quality control and long-term academic development of Chinese Numerology can be assured. This thesis aims at exploring the theory and technique of Chinese Numerology, an ancient Chinese science and culture. Through the related courses offered by the technological and vocational education system, internationally top-notch Chinese Numerology professionals and Feng Shui experts can thus be cultivated. Due to the limitation of time, human resources and money, the field of my research paper focuses mainly on the influence Chinese Numerology has exerted on Taiwanese people and what expectations the have had of it. As National Kaohsiung Hospitality College can educate outstanding restaurant and hotel personnel, so can vocational technological universities offering Chinese Numerology courses cultivate excellent experts in this field. By absorbing Chinese and Western traditional cultural ideas, these experts will create Taiwan¡¦s Chinese Numerology industry and make themselves become internationally acclaimed. Questionaires are distributed asking people in Kaohsiung what they think of the implementation of Chinese Numerology in technological and vocational education system. It is hoped that the cultivation of internationally top-notch Chinese Numerology professionals and Feng Shui experts will consolidate Taiwan¡¦s leading status in the field of Chinese Numerology, which will become Taiwan¡¦s unique cultural feature in the future. At the end of my thesis, three suggestions are made. First, for the development of Chinese Numerology, related courses should be incorporated into the curricula of technological and vocational universities. Second, the Chinese Numerology certificate system should be established. Third, academic research centers of Chinese Numerology should be set up to cultivate more high-quality experts in this field.

In this paper, I discuss how I planned to implement an Insurgent Research methodology articulated by Métis scholar, Adam Gaudry in his article “Insurgent Research.” I organized my historic Métis community using an insurgent research model as methodology along with storytelling, community meetings and ‘kitchen table’ discussions to challenge the narrative set in motion by the justice system for San Clara and Boggy Creek Manitoba. I briefly discuss a 2011 court decision, R v Langan, that denied the traditional and re-emergent identity of San Clara. I implemented a community-based co-researcher model grounded in a culture of mutual respect and relationship building to push back against this decision. I include scholarly writings that recommend recording local histories and community and family relationships. / February 2017

A Study of factors Influencing Consumers¡¦ Trust in Fortune-Telling Websites Abstract Many people still worry the security problem of shopping on the Internet, although Internet shopping is getting more and more popular. Based on a survey in Asia Pacific region in 2001 by VISA, Taiwanese interviewees have the lowest trust in online shopping. It would seriously impede the development of electronic commerce. However, on the other hand, Fortune-Telling, a very popular activity in Chinese community for thousand of years, has been embedded in almost every hot portal website and become its milk cow. Consumers are willing to not only pay a fee for the service, but also disclose personal information such as birth date, etc. If we can understand more about how consumers¡¦ trust in Fortune Telling website are influenced, it would give some implications for a website to get more trust from its consumers. The purpose of this research is to find factors influencing consumers¡¦ trust in Fortune-Telling websites. This research adopts three major research methods: experiment, interview and grounded theory. Based on literature review and an interview to a professional fortune-teller, a primitive conceptual research framework is developed and an experimental fortune-telling web site is thus established. There are twenty subjects joining the experiment. Most of subjects are interviewed twice, before and after learning the fortune telling results. Then the grounded theory research procedure is applied to the conversations of interviews. Finally, a consumer trust model of the fortune-telling website is established. The model shows that Well-Known, Product, Profession& Integrity, and Content of Website are main factors influencing customers¡¦ trust. This thesis questions the connection between Indigenous and immigrant Prairie literature, taking six contemporary texts as a case study. Aboriginal texts include Maria Campbell’s Halfbreed, Beatrice Mosionier’s In Search of April Raintree and Marilyn Dumont’s A Really Good Brown Girl. Immigrant narratives discussed are Hiromi Goto’s Chorus of Mushrooms, Esi Edugyan’s The Second Life of Samuel Tyne, and Madeline Coopsammy’s Prairie Journey. Read alongside one another, these texts demonstrate that Indigenous and immigrant populations do express similar concerns through literature, generally having to do with Canadian multiculturalism. Specifically, this project will discuss bodily and linguistic differences from a white, English-speaking ‘norm,’ home making on the prairies, and story-telling as an alternative indicator of home. This thesis asserts the importance of studying cross-racial literary engagements as they nuance existing discussions of race and space on the prairies and in Canada.

Regardless of its size and scale, space remains space. The project explores the potential of small and intricate spaces to trigger stories and memories. These spaces become places for the mind to evade. As smallness resonates with preciousness, the dimensions of these spaces invite you  to come closer, enter with the eye and the mind and let different scenarios unfold.
