This diploma focuses on the real use of operations research methods in conjunction with logistics technologies. The aim is to show the way of optimization and simulation methods application and to evaluate if these methods are suitable tools for logistics technology application. Following logistic technologies were analysed: Just in Time, Kanban, Cross-Docking and Hub and Spoke. Used mathematical tools include: mixed linear programming models, distribution models, methods of multi-criteria evaluation and simulation models. On the basis of mathematical models 4 examples of new technologies introduction or analysis of already functioning systems have been solved.

The theoretical part is focused on the integration of the SINUMERIK 840D control system with other control systems, it contains informations about basic methods of NC programming and research relate to the field of materials used for the production of component. The practical part of the thesis includes the design and processing of technical documentation of the component, production technology and NC program. The output of this thesis is practical verified the function of the NC program by simulation in software SinuTrain 4.7.

The third part describes production technologies and selection of the turning machine with suitable tools. The last chapter deals with SinuTrain 4.7 software usage and also presents the results of the production simulations.

6 Abstract This study aimed to compare the mycorrhizal fungal communities inhabiting the roots of invasive Pinus strobus L. and native Pinus sylvestris L. We also compared carbon allocation into ectomycorrhizal fungal (EcMf) and other structures of the two pine species. The aim was to assess the influence of mycorrhiza on the invasive potential of P. strobus in the protected areas of National Park Bohemian Switzerland. The two field experiments were conducted on three locations of each species. We estimated the EcM extramatrical mycelium (EMM) production by measuring the ergosterol content in sterile sand filled mesh-bags. Next measured variables were: biomass of ectomycorrhizal and saprotrophic sporocarps, fine roots biomass and leaf litter biomass to compare the one season production of each measured variables. The results revealed a major difference in EcM sporocarps production, whereas on the P. sylvestris sites was the production 100% higher. Same results came from the fine roots measurements: P. sylvestris had a higher fine roots production, which may be also related with the production of EMM, which was about 60% higher as well. Evaluation of the potential locations for logistics hubs : A case srudy for a logistics company

The location of logistics hubs is one of the most crucial success factors for potential economic growth in logistics sector. Since the logistics hub has direct and indirect impacts on different stakeholders including investors, policy makers, infrastructure providers, hub operators, hub users and the community itself, it needs to be considered carefully. Therefore, logistics hubs should be located in such a way that it can provide a better accessibility to three different modes of transportation- road, rail and waterways. The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential locations for logistics hubs and to find out the criteria that affect for the selection of location for logistics hubs. A comprehensive literature study reveals the factors that are affecting the selection of location for logistics hubs and the methods to evaluate those locations considering the criteria. Location selection or evaluation is a typical multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem in which performance criteria plays a vital role for the final decision making. Both qualitative and quantitative MCDM methods are applied in this study, where the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is qualitative and the gravity method is quantitative method. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a structured approach to reach the final decision which is one of the best methods of all MCDM problems, used in recent literature to evaluate the location selection problems. A case study is done for the logistics company, Brinova Fastigheter AB in Sweden. This study is followed by AHP method which is considered with selected factors, i.e. highway accessibility, intermodal capacity, port capacity and land availability. Moreover, this study is conducted by evaluating the four major potential locations in Sweden i.e. Stockholm, Göteborg, Helsingborg and Karlshamn for selecting as a logistics hub. Besides, the location for selecting logistics hubs is evaluated by the gravity method, which is a quantitative method to determine the level of accessibility for the selected locations, considering the flow of goods both inbound and outbound and the transport cost between the locations. The result from the AHP method recommend that Göteborg is the best potential location to establish logistic hub whereas the Gravity model represents that Stockholm has the highest level of accessibility for logistics activity. Therefore the study suggested that both Göteborg and Stockholm are considered to be the best potential locations considering in present situation

The development hub as an integrated strategy to accelerate led in small towns

Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Evolving out of my past experience as municipal manager, the study addresses one of the topical issues in municipalities, viz. the quest for more effective and sustainable local economic development (LED) in small towns. Through an extensive review of the literature and best practices of LED among South African and international municipalities, viable and reproducible strategies were examined and compared. The focus of my in depth research falls primarily on towns in the Western Cape, but lessons from other parts of South Africa also form part of this research. The conclusions drawn are not only relevant in South Africa, but can also be applied in southern Africa and other African sub-continents. Based on the qualitative evidence gathered from three in-depth case studies and a Western Cape sample of tourism places, the study explores the interaction of public- and private-sector involvement in the generation of LED momentum. As such the study focuses on the principles of successful public-private partnerships and how such partnerships can be enhanced through different types of projects. The study presents an LED framework, also referred to as a "development hub", to bring together the different elements of an integrated strategy. Based on the lessons drawn from the case studies and the literature review, the final section of the study presents a strategy framework which should be useful and applicable to other small towns, even if their growth is not tourism-based, and they are not located in South Africa's Western Cape. Hopefully the study will stimulate serious and in-depth debate among policy planners as well as key development stakeholders in small towns regarding viable LED strategising and the practical implementation of those strategies.

Models for a Carbon Constrained, Reliable Biofuel Supply Chain Network Design and Management

This dissertation studies two important problems in the field of biomass supply chain network. In the first part of the dissertation, we study the impact of different carbon regulatory policies such as carbon cap, carbon tax, carbon cap-and-trade and carbon offsetmechanism on the design and management of a biofuel supply chain network under both deterministic and stochastic settings. These mathematical models identify locations and production capacities for biocrude production plants by exploring the trade-offs that exist between transportations costs, facility investment costs and emissions. The model is solved using a modified L-shaped algorithm. We used the state of Mississippi as a testing ground for our model. A number of observations are made about the impact of each policy on the biofuel supply chain network. In the second part of the dissertation, we study the impact of intermodal hub disruption on a biofuel supply chain network. We present mathematical model that designs multimodal transportation network for a biofuel supply chain system, where intermodal hubs are subject to site-dependent probabilistic disruptions. The disruption probabilities of intermodal hubs are estimated by using a probabilistic model which is developed using real world data. We further extend this model to develop a mixed integer nonlinear program that allocates intermodal hub dynamically to cope with biomass supply fluctuations and to hedge against natural disasters. We developed a rolling horizon based Benders decomposition algorithm to solve this challenging NP-hard problem. Numerical experiments show that this proposed algorithm can solve large scale problem instances to a near optimal solution in a reasonable time. We applied the models to a case study using data from the southeast region of U.S. Finally, a number of managerial insights are drawn into the impact of intermodal-related risk on the supply chain performance.
