En åkattraktion till det förflutna : att bruka det förflutna för en upplevelse i samtiden / A Roller Coaster to the Past : the use of history for an experience in contemporary life

Eklöf, Michaela January 2012 (has links)
This essay discusses the use of history, and primarily how the current Swedish society perceives and uses the Viking age. The analysis is based on a literature study as well as a case study of the planned theme park in Fullerö north of Uppsala, Sweden. The aim of the essay is to understand the regional debate which arose in media regarding the planning of Fullerö Park and how it reflects the contemporary use of history. Research about the use of history has become increasingly common in recent years and deals with how history is actively being used in society in order to meet its existing needs. These needs varies among different groups and individuals and results in a multitude of usages, where the interests of the different actors may be contradictory. This essay highlights such a conflict of interest in the case of Fullerö; namely between the official heritage management and the commercial use of history. In the latter it is often the stereotypical images of history that are being used, since it fits well into the contemporary society’s quest for experience. Although these images are often romanticized and scientifically incorrect, this usage still has a purpose. The receivers and visitors do not necessarily perceive this as the true history, they appreciate it for other reasons, and it can function as a means of generating further interest.

Sagan som tema : En studie om de yngsta barnens språkutveckling i ett temainriktat arbetssätt i förskolan. / The story as a theme : A study about the youngest children´s language development whit a themebased method in preschools.

Berg, Sara January 2015 (has links)
This study is about theme as a method in preschools, where children’s stories is the basis of the theme. The aim is to find out how language development can take place through this approach and how preschool teachers experience this way of working. The interviews that have been conducted have focused on how this theme-based method involving stories could be beneficial for the youngest children’s language development and how to make visible the language development that takes place. The results of the survey show an experience from preschool teachers with the language development as a major focus, and where the reflection with the children take an important place in the them-based work. To reach the goals with the theme the preschools work with drama and creativity as common methods. The preschool teachers interviewed highlighted that through the theme of the fairy tale you can reach the goals that the curriculum defines for preschools.

Theme and Variations for guitar Op. 77 : an analysis and background of Lennox Berkeley’s brilliant composition for the guitar

Theodoridis, Ioannis January 2014 (has links)
This essay on Lennox Berkeley’s Theme and Variations for Guitar serves as the written half of my final dissertation for my bachelor’s degree in classical music, following my studies for Peter Berlind Carlson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm between the years 2011- 2014. The other half of this project consists of a studio recording and a concert performance of this piece that I have analysed. Originally, this paper was written in Swedish but also translated to English to serve as an academic writing sample for the Royal College of Music in London, necessary for approving my continued postgraduate studies there starting in September 2014. Other reasons for translating this paper to English is partly the piece’s English origin but also the lack of other available information on this beautiful composition for the guitar. Hopefully, this paper may be of help to guitarists and Berkeley enthusiasts in exploring this remarkable piece of music and Lennox Berkeley’s relationship to the guitar. /
Bilaga: 1 CD

A Thousand Splendid Suns; Rhetorical Vision of Afghan Women

Kazemiyan, Azam 02 April 2012 (has links)
Following the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, Afghan women suddenly gained high visibility all over the world. Since then, representations of Afghan women in the Western media and notably in the U.S. news media provide a critical concern to scholars. Much of the relevant literature on this topic speaks to the fact that the dominant portrayal of Afghan women in the Western media has shown them as passive victims of war and violence, to be liberated only by the Western military intervention. However, the question remains as to how the popular fictional narratives, as another vivid source of information, represent Afghan women to the Western readers. To address this question, A Thousand Splendid Suns, as a popular novel authored by Khalid Hosseini, an Afghan novelist, was selected. Bormannian fantasy theme analysis of this novel conveys the passivity of women in the context of Afghanistan. The findings reveal that the portrayals of Afghan women in the novel correspond with the images of Afghan women in the Western media. Moreover, an examination of a sample of book reviews of the novel unveils the important contribution of Khalid Hosseini to the Orientalist discourse.

The story, but a different story

Cha, Minjeong January 2011 (has links)
This project started with my naive and utopian hypothesis: 'Is there any one experience, equally memorable for everybody, that affects people‘s ordinary lives in a meaningful way afterward?‘ To explore this matter from multiple angles, I needed a research location that already had strongly staged experiences with a clear theme, diverse actors, and its own narratives. And I hit upon the right place: Disneyland Paris. To discuss 'the experience‘, I categorized peoples‘ different impressions of their experiences at Disneyland Paris. When I interviewed staff and visitors on their way out of Disneyland Paris, some people said that their experience had been awful, while others said it had been fantastic. What makes for such different responses to the same place? Two theorists declare, 'Experiences are inherently personal and no two people can have the same experience, because each experience derives from the interaction between the staged event (like a theatrical play) and the individual‘s state of mind‘ (Pine Ⅱand Gilmore, 1998). Since the individual‘s state of mind cannot be grasped and is a broad research term, in this thesis I am mostly concerned with the key experience-generating elements: age and social role. The ultimate purpose of this project is to investigate the pre-and post-experience at the entrance and exit of a given venue for a special experience with a clear theme, that bridge connecting visitors‘ and staff‘s everyday experiences to the staged experience. The practical outcome of this research-led project consists mainly of various trials of a procession that engages visitors at the borders of the venue. This research will consist of the following: 1) Analytical reflection upon visitors‘ and staff‘s one-day experience in a Disney theme park, based on narrative structure and perception of time, 2) Observations of different time perceptions in adults and children, 3) Definition of flow of experience (pre-experience / main experience / post-experience), and 4) Presentation of a new model of participatory stories in a given theme1 to smooth the flow of experience. 1Disneyland Paris was my chosen site for the theoretical background, and the practical methodologies are developed through Konstfack‘s 2011 spring exhibition. What this project intends to do, however, is not to upgrade the experiences in both, but rather to focus on the experiments in order to vary the existing definitions of the flow of experience. The final outcome is intended to be applied to the diverse venues that aim to offer their visitors special experiences with a clear theme. This has been an in-depth exploration of how experience design can be applied as a renewing force, or 'twist‘, to help people experience immersive moments and to gain unforgettable memories which, in turn, influence their future experiences. /
Research question: How can experience design be used to connect the daily experience of visitors and staff with memorable commercially staged experiences in an existing theme park (e.g. Disneyland Paris)?

Miklós Rózsa's Theme, Variations, and Finale A Guide for Performers

January 2018 (has links)
abstract: Hungarian composer, Miklós Rózsa, is primarily known for his career as a film composer, but he wrote over forty-five pieces for the concert hall. The most famous of these works, Theme, Variations, and Finale, was composed in 1933 and premiered the following year, ushering in a long history of performances throughout Europe and abroad in the 1930s and 1940s. This document serves as a guide for performers of Theme, Variations, and Finale by offering biographical information about Rózsa, the compositional history and performance history of the work and recorded legacy, details about its two versions, and a detailed analysis of the score. This document also clarifies important details about the work's performance history, which have previously been recorded inaccurately. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Music 2018
