Gestaltperspektief op die belewing van welstand by laerskoolonderwysers : verkennende studie

The goal of this study was to explore how the contact making process influence the awareness level of primary school teachers. The study was mainly explorative with elements of a descriptive study. With a qualitative study the researcher explored how awareness influenced primary school teachers‟ experiences of wellness. The theoretical point of view of this study is the Gestalt therapeutically philosophy with phenomenology as base. Perls, the father of Gestalt psychology saw Gestalt as the only psychotherapy that is exclusively based on phenomenology. The central Phenomenology principal is that a person is free with the responsibility to influence his/her own environment. Data for this study was collected through a focus group consisting of seven people, (teachers of Gauteng) with whom semi structured interviews were conducted and open-ended questions were asked. This is only an explorative study and therefore the researcher is not really looking for a representative sampling. Findings of this study include that sensory awareness can be used to change wellbeing. Age played a role in resistance and even though the teachers knew about wellbeing it became clear that they were not aware of how to create wellness in their own lives. It came about that some of the participants had to deal with contact boundary disturbances. The study also showed that burned out people operates automatically. The researcher makes the statement that contact boundary disturbances lead to auto actions as in the case of burned-out people. The study showed that awareness makes a shift on the continuum of burnout and wellbeing. In this study it was not always a positive shift, but the researcher feels that the people who had a negative experience will be more secure if this research is conducted in a therapeutic environment. The study also indicated that it is necessary for teachers to learn skills to be good for them selves without feeling guilty.

This study is an investigation into the psychosocial themes present in the DSM-IV diagnosis of adolescents diagnosed with a comorbid Disruptive Behavior and Mood Disorder. These themes are viewed from a psychosocial theoretical perspective. The study focuses on answering four questions. Board structure and organisational performance : an empirical study in the country of Pakistan

Corporate governance (CG) is the set of rules and regulations through which organisations account to their stakeholders. An effective CG system promoting the efficient use of organisational resources is instrumental in the economic growth of a country. Based on the existing literature, this research identifies board structural features i.e., 'Board Independence', 'CEO Duality', 'Board Diversity', 'Number of Board Committees' and 'Audit Committee Independence' as key variables of an effective CG system. Previous studies have largely examined the direct relationship between CG systems and firm performance. This research develops a multi-theoretical model that links the Board structural characteristics with firm performance measured in Tobin's Q, Return on Assets and Return on Equity, via two crucial mediating variables, 'Board Size' and the 'Frequency of Board Meetings', and two additional moderating variables, 'Code of Corporate Governance' and 'Ownership Concentration'. The conceptual model that is developed is tested with the help of an econometric study based on a comprehensive set of balanced panel data of 265 companies listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange for a period of six years. The first panel (2009-2011) represents the time-period before the implementation of the revised Code, and the second panel (2013-2015) covers the time-period following the implementation of the revised Code. The results show that the Number of Board Committees (discussing strategic issues) is significantly related to performance and the 'Size of Board' significantly mediates the relationship between the number of board committees and performance. The relationship is also moderated by the Code of Corporate Governance and ownership concentration held by the largest shareholder. The results also show that the links between additional Board structural variables (board independence, CEO duality, board diversity and audit committee independence) and the financial performance are positive but not significant to draw conclusive result. Comparison between pre-and post-implementation of the revised Code of CG suggests that the intervening relationship between the board variables and the performance is stronger after the implementation of the revised Code. This research is a significant milestone in the country context of Pakistan that reflects the socio-economic set of several emerging economies. A key implication of this research is that the corporate sector in Pakistan needs to move away from the tick-box culture of CG. The sector needs to implement CG as a tool to mitigate business risks, appoint and empower non-executive directors to achieve an effective monitoring of management. The companies also need to establish their own ethical and governance principles applicable to the Board of Directors in order to deal with factors that are likely to reduce Directors' efficiency. The research offers new insights and conceptual framework for further research in this area.

Fumliga nypor, varför då? : Ett designteoretiskt perspektiv på lärares synsätt på vänsterhäntas lärande i klassiskt gitarrspel / Why the fumbling fingers? : A design theory perspective on teachers’ views on left-handed people learning to play classical guitar

Denna studie syftar till fördjupade kunskaper om hur gitarrlärare ser på vänsterhänthet i relation till instrumentets speltekniska svårigheter och hur de anser sig arbeta med vänsterhänta elever i sin undervisning. I uppsatsen ges en bakgrund om vad vänsterhänthet är, en historisk bakgrund om den klassiska gitarren och dess speltekniska svårigheter samt tidigare forskning om musikundervisning av vänsterhänta. Studien utgår från ett multimodalt designteoretiskt perspektiv och ett empiriskt material bestående av fyra kvalitativa intervjuer. Av studiens resultat framkommer att de deltagande lärarna inte ansåg sig anpassa sin undervisning efter elevernas vänsterhänthet, förutom vid starkare grader av vänsterhänthet då eleverna uppmanades att vända på gitarren. Valet av hur gitarren ska hållas beskrivs sällan överlåtas till den enskilda eleven, utan förefaller istället vanligen bestämmas av läraren. Lärarna menade också att alla elever behöver öva samma tekniker och att samma undervisning därför bör gälla för höger- såväl som vänsterhänta elever. Den högersträngade gitarren utgör norm i undervisningen, vilket lärarnas berättelser om hur de sällan rekommenderade elever att vända på gitarren visar. Utifrån detta resultat diskuteras sedan gitarrundervisning av vänsterhänta. Undervisningen beskrivs inte enbart vara en fråga om att anpassa ett instrument, då hela undervisningens design beskrivs spela roll för elevernas lärande med instrumentet. / The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper knowledge of how guitar teachers view left-handedness with regard to the technical difficulties of the instrument and how they work with left-handed students while teaching. This paper provides some background on what left-handedness is, some historical background on the classical guitar and the technical difficulties of playing it, and an overview of previous work on musical education and left-handed people. The study is based on a multimodal and design theoretical perspective, and an empirical material consisting of four qualitative interviews. The results show that the participating teachers did not, in their own view, adapt their teaching because of left-handed students. The exception was students with a strong degree of left-handedness, who were encouraged to turn the guitar around. However, how the guitar is held was not often described as something left up to the individual student, but rather as something decided by the teacher. The teachers also felt that all students need to practice the same techniques, and that the same instructions therefore should be used for both right-handed and left-handed students. Right-handed guitars are standard in teaching situations, and the fact that the teachers say that they rarely recommend that students turn the guitar around reflects that. The results of the study then form the basis for a discussion on teaching left-handed students. It is not just a question of adapting an instrument; the whole design of the lessons makes a difference when it comes to the student learning the instrument.

An examination of children's inter-action with fiction, leading to the development of methodologies to elicit and communicate their responses

This thesis provides an examination and analysis of the social contexts of children's response to fiction in order to contribute to a theoretical perspective of literary response as a continuous process. The absence of a consideration of the way that readers are socially constructed renders any conception of literary response incomplete, and a discussion of textual, psychoanalytic and cultural theories of response reveals a gap which Children's Literature must fill. The marginalisation of Children's Literature within literary discourses silences children as readers by denying the recognition of literary engagement inherent in early experiences with fiction. In addition, an investigation of the meta-discourse which surrounds Children's Literature, through criticism, education and provision, demonstrates the way that adult mediations between children and fiction frequently interrupt an innate desire for an authoritative position for the reader within the text, replacing dynamic creative engagement with static modes of reading. In particular, an analysis of the position of children's books, including the processes for editing, selection and marketing, makes it clear, for the first time, that the social contexts of children's fiction, from jacket design to library selection, influence the construction of readers. A new method of empirical research, based on psychoanalysis, phenomenography and Chambers's 'Tell Me' approach to booktalk, provides evidence of the interplay of desire and control in the social construction of readers and reinforces the need for shared discourses. This method is illustrated by the Book Choice Study, consisting of seven individual case studies with children, their parents and teachers, which reveals the importance of an individual's reading history in the promotion of either dynamic or static modes of reading. The study shows that children who engage in a shared discourse about fiction are more likely to participate in a 'literary' engagement than those who experience a divided discourse, confirming the need for a construction of response that includes children and their books.

Corporate boards, ownership structures and corporate disclosures: Evidence from a developing country

Yes / The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of corporate board attributes, ownership structure and firm-level characteristics on both corporate mandatory and voluntary disclosure behaviour. Multivariate regression techniques are used to estimate the effect of corporate board and ownership structures on mandatory and voluntary disclosures of a sample of Libyan listed and non-listed firms between 2006 and 2010. First, the authors find that board size, board composition, the frequency of board meetings and the presence of an audit committee have an impact on the level of corporate disclosure. Second, results indicate that ownership structures have a non-linear effect on the level of corporate disclosure. Finally, the authors document that firm age, liquidity, listing status, industry type and auditor type are positively associated with the level of corporate disclosure. Future research could investigate disclosure practices using other channels of corporate disclosure media, such as corporate websites. Useful insights may be offered also by future studies by conducting in-depth interviews with corporate managers, directors and owners regarding these issues. The evidence relating to the important role that corporate governance mechanisms play in shaping the expectations relating to the level of corporate voluntary and/or mandatory disclosures may be useful in informing investor decisions, as well as future policy and regulatory initiatives. This paper contributes to the existing literature by examining the governance-disclosure nexus relating to both mandatory and voluntary disclosures in both listed and non-listed firms operating in a developing country setting.

Geopolitisk dynamik : Ett teoriutvecklande anspråk

In the social sciences, geopolitical theory is used in order to analyze states actions and commitments when it comes to foreign policy. This thesis develops a new understanding of geopolitical theory. Firstly, the development and application of geopolitical theory, from its foundations in the early twentieth century to contemporary geopolitical studies is discussed. Secondly a revised understanding of the variables integrated in the concept and how it can be operationalized as an analytical tool is presented and tested empirically.The critical assessment of the research field of geopolitical theory tells us that six different geopolitical perspectives have been considered the most influential (room, strategy, power projection, identity, affiliation and governance) when it comes to analyzing state action. This model is applied as an analytical tool and thus tested on a single case. The case study is an analysis of foreign policy discussions at the state level in Sweden. This has determined how the geopolitical perspectives function in relation to each other as well as presenting the need of new geopolitical perspectives, in order to understand a state’s foreign policies actions and commitments.The case study clearly shows the merits in using geopolitical perspectives and letting them interplay. The most important result, however, is that future studies needs to consider the connections between the six perspectives. The study has confirmed the need of an additional geopolitical perspective (ideology). Ideology as a seventh perspective addresses the issue of political intentions among a state’s representatives, and in that way helps to explain the dynamic connections between the other six geopolitical perspectives that influence states actions and commitments when it comes to foreign policy.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur lärare och elever på musik- eller kulturskola kommunicerar med varandra i enskild undervisning med fiol som instrument. Med hjälp av videoobservation som metod har tre lärare och deras elever observerats. Studiens teoretiska utgångspunkter utgörs av ett designteoretiskt och multimodalt perspektiv. I resultatet framkommer att lärarna använder sig av ett flertal olika kommunikationssätt i sin undervisning. Kommunikationssätten är instruerande, frågeställande, förevisande, metaforiskt och humoristiskt kommunikationssätt. Resultatet visar även att dessa kommunikationssätt kombineras på olika sätt. I diskussionskapitlet diskuteras lärarnas olika sätt att designa undervisningen samt vilka förutsättningar olika typer av design får för elevers lärande. / The aim of this study is to explore how teachers and pupils in music schools communicate during one-to-one music lessons with violin as instrument. With video observation as a method, three teachers and three pupils have been observed. This study has its theoretical base in the design theoretical perspective and multimodality. The results show that the teachers use several different ways of communication in their teaching; they instruct and demonstrate, they use questions and metaphors and also communicate in a humorous way. The results even show that the ways of communication are combined in different ways. In the discussion chapter the teachers’ different teaching designs are discussed as well as which conditions different types of designs has for the pupils learning.

Born for love : En litteraturstudie om Kambodjas arbete för att motverka trafficking

Today Cambodia is one of the world’s poorest countries, and one where trafficking commonly occurs. The purpose of this study was to investigate what social work counteracting trafficking in Cambodia can look like, being a country with different prerequisites to those that can be found in Sweden. In the systematic literature review, 18 scientific studies were chosen to lay the foundation for the results in this study. The results were analysed from a systems-theoretical perspective, along with empowerment as a theory. It was found that the work counteracting trafficking in Cambodia is insufficient. This was partly due to difficulties of collaboration and also due to a lack of knowledge. Further, the results suggested that the change in the community work taking place in Cambodia is of great importance to transform the situation regarding trafficking. / Kambodja är idag ett av världens fattigaste länder och trafficking är vanligt förekommande. Syftet med vår studie var att undersöka hur socialt arbete för att motverka trafficking kan se ut i Kambodja, ett land med andra förutsättningar än de vi är vana vid i Sverige. Genom en systematisk litteraturöversikt valde vi ut 18 vetenskapliga studier som har legat till grund för vårt resultat. Resultatet har analyserats ur ett systemteoretiskt perspektiv samt med empowerment som teori. Resultatet konstaterade att det arbete som utförs i Kambodja för att motverka trafficking är bristfälligt, på grund av bland annat samverkanssvårigheter men även på grund av kunskapsbrist. Vidare visade resultatet att det samhälleliga förändringsarbete som pågår i landet är av stor vikt för att förändra traffickingsituationen.
