A Quantitative Study on Service Quality and Passenger Satisfaction of Transportation-A Case Study of Kaohsiung Transportation Co., Ltd

Over the year, Kaohsiung Bus Companies has not been very successful in providing the kind of service the passengers need, as a result, today, more people are not using bus transportation, nor satisfied with the bus company¡¦s service quality. How to enhance quality services to meet customers¡¦ needs; how to reach the goal to improve metropolitan¡¦s commute environment and how to re-create business opportunity and make profit are the main concerns of Kaohsiung Bus Companies. Versus bus companies, customers are expecting metro transportation system to provide economical, rapid, secure and safe services while paying the fare. This research is based on customer¡¦s expectation (demands) and bus company¡¦s service (supplies) to build up the model. This model also explains the co-relationship of customer satisfaction degree and bus company quality service. To provide the evidence of presumption, this research goes through public opinion survey. This research has the following results 1). The co-relationship is low between (a) image of Kaohsiung Bus Company, and passenger expectation of quality service ; and (b) passengers¡¦ past experiences, knowledge of bus company and personal needs. 2). The co-relationship between (a) customer¡¦s over all comments; and (b) riding frequency is relative. 3). Bus service schedule (service time) does affect the sensation of passenger. 4). The satisfaction degree of customer from high to low of bus service schedule is as (a) off-peak, (b) afternoon peak, (c) morning peak. 5). For over all satisfaction degree of bus service, non-commuters are higher than commuters. 6). The better the quality service, the higher the sensation of satisfaction degree.

Energikartläggning av Foria AB:s aktiviteter / Energy Audit of Foria AB's Activities

Energieffektivisering har länge varit och blir alltmer aktuell, dels för att främja social, ekonomisk och miljömässig hållbarhet, dels för att motverka den rådande energikrisen i Europa. 2014 beslutades det om Lag (2014:266) om energikartläggning i stora företag. Lagen innebär att företag som årligen omsätter mer än 50 miljoner euro och är fler än 250 anställda ska göra en energikartläggning var fjärde år. Foria AB omsätter årligen mer än 50 miljoner euro och blev under 2022 fler än 250 anställda vilket resulterar i att företaget omfattas av Lag (2014:266). Syftet med examensarbetet är identifiera vilka styrkor och svagheter som energikartläggningar har samt att genomföra en energikartläggning över Foria AB:s energikrävande aktiviteter enligt kategorierna transport, verksamhet och byggnader och identifiera energieffektiviserande åtgärder i enlighet med Lag (2014:266). Energikartläggningen är genomförd enligt ISO 50001 standarden vilket bland annat kräver ett kontinuerligt arbete med energifrågan. Ett kontinuerligt arbete med energifrågan har visat sig ha större positiv effekt av företags energieffektivisering i jämförelse med om det är en engångsprocedur. Energikartläggningen är baserad på data om energianvändningen i form av tankad mängd drivmedel, el- och värmefakturor samt schablonberäkningar där data inte är tillgängliga. Resultatet av energikartläggningen visar att Forias transporter utgör den största energiposten med ett energibehov på 22,1 GWh under 2022, följt av byggnader som hade ett energibehov på 0,97 GWh och verksamhet med ett energibehov på 0,51 GWh. Vid utarbetandet av de energieffektiviserande åtgärderna togs beslutet att fokusera på transporter i sin helhet, samt byggnaderna och tillhörande verksamheter vid tre olika platskontor. De energieffektiviserande åtgärder som identifierades inom litteraturen och i samband med intervjuer med Foria AB:s anställda inom transportkategorin är att köra mer sparsamt, installera GPS:er i fordonen för att kunna trafikleda mer effektivt samt att nyttja ett mjukvaruprogram vid trafikledning. Bland dessa energibesparingsåtgärder identifierades överexponeringar och överlappande åtgärder på grund av bristfälliga data, vilka är några av de svagheterna som finns med energikartläggningar. Energieffektiviserande åtgärder inom kategorin byggnader är att behovsanpassa underhållsystem, optimera nyttjandet av lokaler i syfte att minska värme- och ventilationsbehovet samt byta ut och renovera ineffektiva värmesystem. De energibesparande åtgärder som ger störst andel sparad energi är samtliga åtgärder inom transport. Trots att den exakta besparingen inte kunnat fastställas görs bedömningen att det finns potential till energibesparing då både litteraturen och känslighetsanalysen tyder på det. För att få mer exakta resultat av energianvändningen och energibesparingen behöver mer data samlas in. Trots att datainsamlingen delvis är baserad på schablonberäkningar, att svagheter identifierats och de energieffektiviserande åtgärderna är baserade på förväntad andel sparad energi bedöms energikartläggningen ge en tillräckligt representativ bild av energibehovet samt att Foria AB har god potential till energieffektivisering genom att implementera de föreslagna åtgärderna. / To be energy efficiency is increasingly relevant, partly to promote social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and partly to counteract the ongoing energy crisis in Europe. In 2014, the Law (2014:266) on Energy Mapping in Large Companies was enacted. The law stipulates that companies that has an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros and have more than 250 employees must conduct an energy mapping every four years. In 2022, the transportation company Foria AB exceeded 250 employees, had an annual turnover of more than 50 million euros, and is therefore subject to Law (2014:266). The purpose of the thesis is to identify strengths and weaknesses of energy audits and to conduct an energy mapping of Foria AB's energy-intensive activities in the categories of transportation, operations, and buildings, and identify energy efficiency measures in accordance with Law (2014:266).  The energy audit has been conducted according to the ISO 50001 standards, which, among other things, requires ongoing work with the energy related questions. Continuous efforts in addressing energy issues have been found to have a greater impact on a company’s energy efficiency compared to a one-time procedure. The energy audit is based on data regarding fuel consumption, electricity, and heat invoices, as well as default calculations where real data was unavailable. The result of the energy audit revealed that Foria's transportations are the largest energy expenditure, with an energy demand of 22.1 GWh in 2022, followed by buildings with an energy demand of 0.97 GWh and operations with 0.51 GWh. When identifying the energy efficiency measures, the decision was made to focus on transportation, as well as the buildings and associated operations at three different branch offices. The energy efficiency measures were identified in the literature and through interviews with employees at Foria AB. For the transportation category this resulted in driving more efficiently, installing GPS systems in vehicles for more efficient traffic management, and utilizing software programs for traffic control. Energy efficiency measures for buildings include adapting maintenance systems to actual needs, optimizing space utilization to reduce heating and ventilation requirements, and replacing and renovating inefficient heating systems. The energy-saving measures that result in the largest proportion of saved energy are all within transportation. Although the exact savings couldn't be determined, the assessment is that there is potential for energy savings, as both the literature and sensitivity analysis suggest. To obtain more precise results regarding energy consumption and energy savings, more data needs to be collected. Although the data is partly based on default calculations, that weaknesses were identified, and the energy efficiency measures are based on expected energy savings, the energy mapping is deemed to provide a sufficiently representative picture of the energy demand and that Foria AB has good potential for energy efficiency by implementing the proposed measures.

It is intended in this research work to contribute in the way to evaluate certain features of those FTCs, in the sense of investigating how founders or managers of those firms consider their leadership styles to be able to make the business run continuously throughout time. This research work is structured in three chapters; the first two chapters present a review on diverse theories of leadership and family business, while the third chapter describes a survey carried out with founders or managers of ten FTCs. The criteria for the companies selection took into consideration the fact of such firms being family businesses, in which family members have actual participation in the way business is run in those companies. From all information gathered in those interviews, it was possible to verify a linking among those theories selected to this thesis and the statements of the FTCs owners or descendants in charge of the business, especially on what regards the trade activities performed along time. Despite the interviewed people have reinforced the important role of the leader in the way they ran their business, they stated that leadership was not the most important factor in family business s continuity or in the success such company had gotten as time went by; this continuity subject might depend on the founder s leadership styles that maintain as priority the development of specific abilities on the successors and the strengthening ot their most efective capabilities and not depend strictly on a kind of magnetic effect / A presente dissertação tem por finalidade analisar as relações entre os estilos de liderança e a continuidade do negócio na percepção dos fundadores de empresas familiares do setor de transportes de cargas no Brasil. Pretende-se contribuir no modo de avaliar aspectos da estrutura organizacional das empresas de transporte rodoviário de cargas, as ETCs, no sentido de averiguar como os fundadores ou principais gestores dessas empresas consideram que seus estilos de liderança sinalizam respaldos para a continuidade do modelo de negócio. A estrutura deste trabalho compreende a elaboração de uma parte teórica com discussões acerca de liderança e empresa familiar, desenvolvida nos dois primeiros capítulos, e outra de caráter investigativo, envolvendo uma pesquisa de campo constituída a partir de entrevistas com fundadores ou principais gestores de dez empresas familiares do setor de transporte rodoviário de cargas. Os critérios envolvidos para a seleção de tais empresas levaram em consideração o fato de serem empresas familiares e que os fundadores ou seus descendentes tivessem participação ativa na condução dos negócios e outras atividades da empresa. A partir das entrevistas obtidas constatou-se um alinhamento entre as teorias selecionadas para esta dissertação e as afirmações dos dirigentes das ETCs sobre trajetória das atividades comerciais realizadas no decorrer do tempo. Apesar de os entrevistados salientarem a importância do papel do líder ao conduzirem os negócios, afirmam que estilo de liderança não é o fator decisivo na continuidade da empresa ou no sucesso que ela tenha adquirido com o tempo; esta questão da continuidade da empresa familiar pode depender da adoção pelo fundador, de estilos de liderança que priorizem o desenvolvimento das habilidades específicas dos herdeiros e na potencialização de suas capacidades mais eficientes e não apenas na base de um efeito magnético

Controladoria como suporte à estratégia da empresa: estudo multicaso em empresas de transportes

Para atender este objetivo, foi desenvolvido um estudo de caso múltiplo em quatro empresas de transportes estabelecidas na região metropolitana de Porto Alegre/RS. As empresas participantes são especializadas em transporte rodoviário de cargas e têm marca consolidada no mercado. As entrevistas e o preenchimento do questionário ocorreram de abril a junho de 2014. Para a coleta dos dados, foi elaborado um roteiro de entrevista estruturada com respostas fechadas, dividido em três seções. Na seção 1, foi elaborado um questionário, contendo as principais práticas de controladoria validadas por especialistas. Na seção 2, foi elaborado um questionário com o objetivo de identificar qual a participação da controladoria na estratégia da empresa. Na seção 3, foram listadas as principais decisões estratégicas utilizadas pelas empresas. Quanto às práticas de controladoria utilizadas pelas empresas de transportes, constatou-se que, entre as 27 práticas de controladoria apresentadas, 16 são utilizadas por pelo menos por uma das empresas, enquanto que 11 não são utilizadas por nenhuma das empresas pesquisadas. Quanto à aderência das práticas de controladoria pelas empresas de transportes, constatou-se que a Empresa 3 tem a maior participação com 51,9% das práticas, e que a Empresa 1 tem a menor participação com 18,5% de utilização das práticas validadas. Analisando-se a utilização das decisões estratégicas listadas na literatura, constatou-se que 75,4% das decisões estratégicas são utilizadas por pelo menos uma das empresas pesquisadas, enquanto que 24,6% das decisões não são identificadas em nenhuma das empresas. Para verificar a similaridade entre as empresas, foi utilizado o índice de similaridade de Jaccard, com o qual se constatou que existe similaridade, visto que, na comparação das práticas de controladoria utilizadas entre as empresas, 83% das comparações apresentaram similaridade superior a 70%. Na comparação das decisões estratégicas, 67% das comparações também apresentaram similaridade superior a 70%. Além disso, os resultados mostraram que 7,4% das práticas de controladoria são consideradas decisivas ou muito importantes para 100% das empresas, e que 14,8% das práticas são consideradas decisivas ou muito importantes para 75% das empresas. Os resultados obtidos na análise dos dados coletados evidenciaram que as práticas de controladoria podem fornecer suporte para a formulação das decisões estratégicas da empresa. / This study aims to identify which controllership practices can support strategic decisions in transport enterprises. To attend this objective, was developed a multiple case study on four transportation companies established at the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre/RS. The participating companies are the specialized on road transportation load and they have consolidated brand in the market. The interviews and the fill in questionnaire occurred from April till June, 2014.To collect the information, was elaborated a structured schedule of interview with closed answers, divided into three sections. In section 1, was elaborated a questionnaire, holding the main practices of controller validate by specialists. In section 2, was elaborated a questionnaire with the objective to identify what’s the participation of the controller on the company strategy. In section 3, were listed the main strategic decision used by companies. As practices of controller used by the transportation companies, we noticed that among the 27 practices of controller presented, 16 are used by at least one of the companies, while 11 of them are not used by any of the researched companies. As the adherence of the controller practices by the companies of transportation, we notice that the company 3 has the major participation with 51,9% of the practices, and that the company 1 has the fewer participation with 18,5% of utilization from validate practices. Analyzing the utilization of the strategic decisions listed on literature, we noticed that 75,4% from strategic decisions are used for at least one of the researched companies, while 24,6% of the decisions are not indentified in any one of the companies. To verify the similarity index among companies, it was used the Jaccard similarity index, on which we notice that similarity really exists, seeing that, in comparison from practices of controller used among companies, 83% of comparisons presented similarity superior to 70%. In comparison of strategic decisions, 67% of the comparisons also presented similarity superior to 70%. Besides, the results showed that 7,4% from practices of controller are considered decisive or very important for 100% of the companies, and that 14,8% of the practices are considerate decisive or very important for 75% of the companies. The results obtained from the collected data in the analyses showed that the practices of controller can give support for the formulation of strategic decisions of the company.
