Målet med vårt arbete är att belysa hur modersmålslärare hanterar undervisning omursprungslandets historia och jämför detta med svenska förhållanden. Med utgångspunkt fråndetta har vi undersökt hur modersmålsundervisningen kan stärka elevers identitet och därmedhistoriemedvetandet. Vi kommer därmed att lyfta fram begreppen modersmålsundervisning,identitet och historiemedvetande. För att uppnå bästa möjliga resultat har vi genomfört enkvalitativ intervjuundersökning med olika modersmålslärare. Vi har dessutom gjort enenkätundersökning bland eleverna på skolorna vi har haft vår verksamhetsförlagda tid. Avresultatet fick vi fram att modersmålsundervisningen kan ge elever bättre förutsättningar attkunna stärka sin identitet. Detta genom att tillägna sig kunskaper om ursprungslandetshistoria, kulturer, traditioner och samhällsliv. / The main purpose with our essay is to illustrate how teachers in mother tongue educationhandle history of the country of origin and comparisons to Swedish conditions. Starting fromthis we will explore how mother tongue education strengthens students´ identities and withthat their historical consciousness. We will discuss concepts like mother tongue education,identity and historical consciousness. To achieve highest possible results we carried out aqualitative interview research with different teachers of mother tongue education. In additionto this we made a questionnaire research among the students at the schools were we had ourpractical teacher’s education. In the result we illustrated that mother tongue education couldprovide the students with better conditions to strengthen their identity. This by acquiringknowledge about their country of origin’s history, culture, tradition and the social life.
