Skaistumo dorybė ir vyresnių klasių moksleivių požiūris į ją / Virtue of virginity and the attitude of high school students towards it

Simniška, Eglė 21 February 2009 (has links)
Darbo problema. 2. Moksleivių geri santykiai su tėvais ir reguliarus... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The problem of the study. Zkušenosti žen s gynekologickým vyšetřením a diskuze o panenství v turecké Ankaře / Women's Experiences with Gynaecological Examinations and Debates about Virginity in Ankara, Turkey

Güngör, Sebiha January 2021 (has links)
Key words: Gynaecological experiences, virginity, premarital sexuality, women's health, gynaecological health, Turkey. This study explores the relationship of ideas about virginity and gynaecological health experiences of women in Ankara, Turkey. I conducted in depth semi-structured interviews with ten heterosexual, 23-30 years old, college-graduate Turkish women. Using intersectionality as a methodological lens, I seek to understand how gender, age, class and religion play a role in the correlation of virginity and gynaecology experiences. Five main themes illuminated the participant women's experiences: (1) feeling of inclusion, (2) the effect of religion, (3) class difference, (4) selection of doctors (5) access to information on gynaecological health. Findings revealed that participants define virginity as a taboo and a barrier during gynaecological healthcare experiences. In accordance with the previous researches, I have found that dominant virginity discourse limit women's access to knowledge on their gynaecological health. This study also dwelled on the differences in the experiences of women according to participant women's age, religion, class and social status. In addition to previous research, this study revealed that judgemental comments of the doctors and high fees of private clinics...

The practice of virginity testing in South Africa : a constitutional and comparative analysis

Rakubu, Motlalepula January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (LLM. (Development and Management Law)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / In South Africa, the concept of virginity testing has been under the spotlight because of the Children’s Act 38 of 2005 partially legalising it. Section 12 thereof, provides for the testing to be performed on both male and female children over the age of sixteen with their informed consent. It has also been revived as a Zulu custom which gained momentum in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This custom is, however, in contrast to the approach highlighted in the Act, since it targets only the girl child and mostly without her informed consent. Although a girl’s virginity is said to bring honour to her family, it also comes with inherent risks, since, in African societies, the myth that sex with a virgin, or a girl-child can cure AIDS, is prevalent. This dissertation examines, from a human rights perspective, the concept of virginity testing and related procedures/ provisions, the role and function of the virginity testers, as well as expectations/experience of the participants (the girls tested). The study asserts that the practice of virginity testing is a violation of human rights, strips the girl of her dignity, represents an invasion of bodily privacy and leads to degradation and humiliation. Virginity testing, according to this study, leads to limitation of rights and unfairly discriminates against the girls tested and cannot be justified in terms of the limitation clause, as provided by section 36 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996. As part of the comparative study, the analysis of the position in Senegal, regarding the successful abolishment of a similar discriminatory cultural practice, provides lessons on how both the South African government and NGO’s can work towards law reform in order to address the problem of virginity testing.

”IBLAND DU KÄNNER SKÄMS ATT FRÅGA SÅDANA SAKER” : EN KVALITATIV STUDIE I NYANLÄNDA TJEJERS SYN PÅ SKOLANS UNDERVISNING KRING OSKULDSNORMER

Lisa, Palm January 2021 (has links)
Palm.L ”Sometimes you feel shame to ask such questions” A qualitative study of  a group of female newly arrived refugees view on education of virginity norms in school. Master thesis (sexology) 30 hp. Malmö University: Faculty of Health and Society, Department of Social Work, January 2021.  The aim of this study is to gain an understanding of how a group of female newly arrived refugees wish that the school teach, discuss and give information concerning virginity and virginity norms in a school context.  The study focuses on virginity norms hence they constitute a central part of the honour-related violence. Previous studies indicate that there is a strong connection between virginity norms and honour-related violence and oppression and that the preventive work against that could be dealt with in school. Both professionals who meet female refugees as well as researchers, highlight the importance of cultural knowledge when talking about sex and reproduction. Furthermore, recently made surveys indicate that virginity norms are affecting adolescents negative.   The data in this study was collected through focus-group discussions with three different ethnically homogeneous groups. The study uses Foucault’s theories about discourse, power and cultural relativism. The results of this study indicate that a cultural sensitive approach in the preventive work against honour-related violence and oppression is important. The informants wish that the information and discussions concerning virginity norms should be given in gender-separated groups by female professionals. The informants opinions concerning the methods used in giving such information does not entirely correlate with the material published by RFSU and Youmo. Despite some similarities, the informants in this study emphasizes their own cultural background, the impact of their religion and the sensitivity concerning topics like virginity and virginity norms.

Virgin Territory: Theology, Purity, and the Rise of the Global Sex Trade

Adkins, Amey Victoria January 2016 (has links)
<p>Sex sells. A lot. But who exactly is on the market? </p><p>What kinds of bodies are calibrated for traffic and consumption, and how exactly do they get there? When it comes to “sex” trafficking—which comprises a minority percentage of human trafficking, yet dominates the moral imagination as an “especially heinous” crime—the rise in predominantly white, evangelical Christian American interest in the trafficked subject galvanizes an ethical outrage that rarely observes critiques of race, ethnicity, sexuality or class as conditions of possibility. Though a nuanced mandate to fight trafficking is all but cemented in the contemporary American political and moral conscience, Virgin Territory accounts for the ways Christian ideas of purity annex both gender and sexuality inside the legacies of racialized colonial encounter, and foreground the market expansion of the global sex trade as it exists today. </p><p>In Part I, I argue that the narratives of virginity tied to Mary’s body simultaneously foregrounded the gendered, sexed Other as sparked disdain for the religious Other, for the Jewish body and for Mary’s Jewish identity. Through this analysis I explore the connections of racial identity to the Christian theological elision of Jewish election. I demonstrate how the questions of sexual ethics materialized at the site of the Virgin Mary, and align the moral attachments of sex and purity in the production of whiteness. These machinations, tied to the emerging European identity of empire, irrupt horrifically into the narrative ontology of dark flesh in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.</p><p>In Part II, I highlight the function of these narratives inside of the moments of colonial encounter, demonstrating how the logics of purity and virginity were directly applied to manage dark female flesh. I map the visual iconography of the Black Madonna first through a Dutch painting entitled The Rape of the Negress. I read this image through the social theological imagination instantiating the idea of the reprobate body and white imperial gaze. This analysis foregrounds a theological reading of Sarah Baartman, the “Hottentot Venus,” as the center of a complex sex trafficking investigation, outlining the genealogy of race, as well as the ideologies of the racial, ethnic and national Other, as mitigating factors in the conditions of possibility of a global sex trade. By restoring these narratives and their theological undertones, I reiterate the ways Christian thought is imbricated in the global sex trade, and propose theological strategies for rethinking humanitarian responses to sex trafficking.</p> / Dissertation

Casamento e sexualidade em processos judiciais e inquéritos policiais na Comarca de Ribeirão Preto (1871 a 1942): concepções, práticas e valores / Marriage and sexuality in lawsuites and police inquiries at ribeirão preto judicial district (1871-1942).

De Tilio, Rafael 17 June 2005 (has links)
Much of actual famylie´s researches show the marriage´s importance while favoured site (but not the only) for the sentimental expression between lovers, their ascendency and descendency. Ancient phenomenon as long as ocidental society marriage changed in the eras. In Brazil marriage became more important in 19th – 20th passage (period of many changes) but there are not much researches study the cotidian relationships from that era using historical material. This research tried study how in brazilian society 19th – 20th , using Ribeirão Preto city as refence, marriage firmed as institution (which organize individuals´, families´ and social´s actions) by and for the juridical´s conceptions; in that context the (civil and criminal) legislation suffered changes which controled the sexual´s exercice, the moral and families´formation by fiancées e younges (reserving virginity) by marriage. 46 policial inquiry and 58 criminal about sexual crimes between 1871 (the oldest find) and 1942 (inaturation of the brasilian´s New Penal Code) process were selected in the Archive´s Justice Tribunal (Ribeirão Preto´s judicial district) reguled by the 1890 Penal Code. This documents were readed and their informations were analised for estabilish possibles relations among sexual criminality and mariiage´s incentive. About our material we can say: sexual crimes occorred between proximal´s accused and victim (friends our boyfriens), in maiority between national groups by desendance and color, which parents were responsable by acusations which result in archivements (40%), espontaneal´s marriages between acussed and victim (30%) and marriages after accused´s prison/law suit (11.5%) – marriage like, as legal garanty, criminal extinguision -, condenations (9.6%) and other ones without final (8.6%). The relation between accusation´s intention and resolution can be established when we pay attention for the document´s relats (witness, defensal lawyers, judges and police officers) whose resoltion (condenation or absolvation) were ruled by moral behaviors expected for men and women – punition for those who not followed the moral and juridical´s rules which estimuled marriages. The material analisis show us relations between criminal accusations and no marriage accomplishment by acused ones (and the victims looked for their parents or legal authorits to get their intention: marriage) or for to antecipate the union no consented by parents (and sexual crimes without intention of marriage also happens); in this way sexual crimes´accusations were used for punish those who do not want to marriage and for to promote marriages.

Saints, mothers and personifications : representations of womanhood in Late Anglo-Saxon illustrated manuscripts

McGucken, Stephenie Eloise January 2018 (has links)
Scholars including Christine Fell, Pauline Stafford and Catherine Cubitt have tried to explain the status of women in Late Anglo-Saxon England in a variety of ways. Some, such as Fell, have framed the earlier Anglo-Saxon period as a golden Age which saw greater freedoms; others, like Stafford, Cubitt and Patricia Halpin, have argued for a more complicated reading, one that acknowledges the impact of the tenth-century monastic reform and the changes in types of religious life open to women. Occasionally studies draw on the art of the period to demonstrate their claims, but none foreground the visual evidence in the exploration of women's status in Late Anglo-Saxon England. Art historical studies, such as Catherine Karkov's examinations of Junius 11 and the Old English Illustrated Hexateuch, which include discussion of the portrayal of women tend to examine the images in relation to various concepts ranging from the manuscript's audience to issues of female speech, as well as in isolation from the extant corpus of images of women known from Late Anglo-Saxon England. This study will focus on three distinct, yet related, case studies that typify the ways in which women are presented to different Late Anglo-Saxon audiences. These case studies emerge through a statistical analysis and survey of patterns of representation of over twenty illustrated manuscripts. The first focuses on the miniature of St Æthlthryth in the Benedictional of Æthelthryth, exploring how the image of Æthlthryth was utilised to communicate ideals, such as virginity, key to Æthelwold's view of reformed English monasticism. The second case study focuses on the Old English Illustrated Hexateuch and the ways in which women were utilised in demonstrating (un)righteous behaviours. The differences between the manuscripts while seeking to demonstrate how personifications, like the historical and biblical women of the first two case studies, can reveal the ways in which women were conceived in Late Anglo-Saxon society. Ultimately, this study will show that when women were portrayed in the art of the period, it is with specific ideals in mind that speak to acceptable behaviour, religious constructs, and the place and function of the woman in contemporary society.
