Using Mining Techniques to Identify External Web Environment of Companies

Chen, Hsaio 17 January 2006 (has links)
As the rapid growth of World Wide Web nowadays, many companies tend to disseminate relevant information such as the introduction of product and service through their commercial Web sites. A company¡¦s Web site is deemed as a certain kind of its business assets. Customers, suppliers, partners, associations and other outsiders who desire to get access to the assets from the Web construct a company¡¦s external Web environment. From a strategic planning point of view, identifying a company¡¦s external environment helps to create its business values. Therefore, this research focuses on the issue of assisting a company to identify its external Web environment using mining techniques. Several research works pointed out that the hyperlink structure among Web pages could contribute to classifying the relationships within a company¡¦s external environment. We then propose a classifier that combines Web content mining and hyperlink structure, CNB-HI, for such a purpose. We apply our proposed approach to a real case to help identify the roles of customers, partners, media, and associations. Two experiments are conducted to examine the performance. In the first experiment, we compare CNB with other forms of Naïve Bayesian classifiers, and conclude that CNB achieves a better performance. However, even the performance by CNB is not satisfactory based exclusively on content classification. The second experiment is conducted to examine the benefits with hyperlink information incorporated (CNB-HI). The result shows that the performance of CNB-HI improves markedly. It thus justifies the feasibility of the proposed approach to real applications.

Facilitating Knowledge Discovery by Mining the Content and Link Structure of the Web

Qin, Jialun January 2006 (has links)
Given the vast amount of online information covering almost all aspects of human endeavor, the Internet, especially the Web, is clearly a fertile ground for data mining research from which to extract valuable knowledge. Web mining is the application of data mining techniques to extract knowledge from Web data, including Web documents, Web hyperlink structure, and Web usage logs.Traditional Web mining research has been mainly focused on addressing the information overload problem. Many information retrieval (IR) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been adopted or developed to identify relevant information from the Web to meet users' specific information needs. However, most existing studies do not fully explore the social and behavioral aspects of the Web. Thus, the primary goal of this dissertation is to develop an integrated research framework that extends traditional Web mining methodologies to fully explore the technical, social, and behavioral aspects of Web knowledge discovery. My dissertation framework is composed of technical and social/behavioral components. In the technical component of my dissertation, a set of domain specific Web collection building, Web content and link structure mining, and Web knowledge presentation techniques were developed. These techniques were tested in a series of case studies to demonstrate their effectiveness and efficiency in facilitating knowledge discovery in various domains. The social/behavioral component of my dissertation is to explore the application of Web mining technology as a new means to study the social interactions and behavior of Web content providers and users. Several case studies were conducted to extract knowledge on covert organizations' resource allocation plans, information management policies, and technical sophistication using Web mining techniques. Such knowledge would be very difficult to obtain through other means. The major contributions of this dissertation are twofold. First, it proposed a set of new Web mining techniques that can help facilitate knowledge discovery in various domains. Second, it demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of applying Web mining techniques in extracting social and behavioral knowledge in different contexts.

Implementační analýza edukačního portálu se zaměřením na jeho monetizaci / The Implementation Analysis of the Educational Portal with a Focus on Its Monetization

CHUCHLOVÁ, Martina January 2015 (has links)
The subject of the diploma thesis titled, "The Implementation Analysis of the Educational Portal with a Focus on Its Monetization" is the creation of a strategy that could be used for a new educational portal and subsequently its monetization. Primarily, the portal will be designed for university students. The theoretical part is focused on basic terms associated with issues of portals, web content monetization and operational expenses for running a website. In the practical part, there is a questionnaire survey, with the target audience being university students. Besides other things, this questionnaire survey also identifies the biggest competitors of the project. The competitors are analysed and their services and contributions to students are compared. After processing the questionnaire survey, a different strategy for a new educational portal is designed.

Aiding Web Usability : Integrating usability with Web Content Management Systems

Velander, Alexander January 2011 (has links)
Web site usability is an important factor when creating and managing web sites, since it essentially determines whether or not the site is usable by its intended audience. As an attempt to simplify the process of achieving high usability for web sites, this thesis has explored the possibility of integrating usability guidelines with web content management systems. The overall aim was to determine if, and how, usability guidelines can be implemented in a web content management system to make it promote and deliver web site usability, and to find solutions that aid web site users in carrying out the basic tasks of finding, reading and understanding information on the web. To estimate the effectiveness of such solutions, the level of human dependency was considered when evaluating the solutions. This thesis has shown that it is possible to construct such solutions, and has found several for each of the basic user tasks of finding, reading and understanding information. Although some of the found solutions automatically improve a site's usability or actively promote site usability, the majority are still dependent on human efforts in order to promote usability. It was concluded that it is possible to integrate usability guidelines with a web content management system, but that web site usability still largely depends on human effort in order to be effective.

Automated Discovery of Real-Time Network Camera Data from Heterogeneous Web Pages

Ryan Merrill Dailey (8086355) 14 January 2021 (has links)
<div>Reduction in the cost of Network Cameras along with a rise in connectivity enables entities all around the world to deploy vast arrays of camera networks. Network cameras offer real-time visual data that can be used for studying traffic patterns, emergency response, security, and other applications. Although many sources of Network Camera data are available, collecting the data remains difficult due to variations in programming interface and website structures. Previous solutions rely on manually parsing the target website, taking many hours to complete. We create a general and automated solution for indexing Network Camera data spread across thousands of uniquely structured webpages. We analyze heterogeneous webpage structures and identify common characteristics among 73 sample Network Camera websites (each website has multiple web pages). These characteristics are then used to build an automated camera discovery module that crawls and indexes Network Camera data. Our system successfully extracts 57,364 Network Cameras from 237,257 unique web pages. </div>

Vícevrstvá webová J2EE aplikace / Multilayer J2EE web application

Pacvoň, Stanislav January 2008 (has links)
This thesis provides compact solutions and shows process, how it is possible to implement Information system which automatically tests students projects. The use of J2EE technology is required in assignment of this thesis. Using of other technologies depends on which way of the assignment´s solution was choosen. In the part one of the thesis an option of technologies used for the system development is implemented. The reason why used application server, database server and CMS solution were chosen is given here. The choice of CMS applicatin is reasoned in more detailed way. A building tool Ant and Junit package are introduced here as well as cascade styles and other technologies used in an application. Ant was used to build a module and students projects. JUnit package is available to test classes. In the second part of the thesis the application is designed. It is showed here how to create a web module, what components the module has to contain and how to implement required function of the system with contribution of classes, library OpenCms and Java. The second part is divided into three chapters. The first shows system workflow, which defines the way of work with application according to defined role in system .The second of them is focused on the web module and its parts. It introduces application pages designed for registration, projects assignment, projects and scripts upload and navigation pages. The three chapter is aimed at a web content.
