Queen of the Night : ett konsertprojekt i Whitney Houstons ära

Bensing, Emma January 2013 (has links)
The project is to do a concert with the music of Whitney Houston. The concert will be done in co-operation with two other singers, and will be performed with a band of four members. I and the other singers will arrange the songs, and the concert will contain a capella singing, medleys, and choreography. The aim of the project is the concert it self, but the purpose is to be able to do it more then one time. The material that is going to be used is only the songs of Whitney Houston, and the songs of choice will be from her entire carrier. /
Bilaga: 1 DVD

A history of Mount Whitney

Wood, Crispin Melton 01 January 1955 (has links) (PDF)
The most elevated point in the United States is Mount Whitney. Many citizens in the United States. know this. But. what more do they know of it? Some guess that it is in t -he Sierra Nevada Mountains, some vaguely realize that it is in California, but how many know of the role Mount Whitney has played in the development of science, history and literature of the west and of the nation?

Teoria de estratificação e condições de regularidade / Stratification Theory and regularity conditions

Bezerra, Vanessa Munhoz Reina 23 July 2007 (has links)
In the present dissertation we do a study of algebraic, semialgebraic, analytic, semianalytic and subanalytic sets, real and complex, through the regularity conditions of the stratification of these sets. The basic idea in stratification is to decompose a singular space into manifolds; and the regularity conditions, is a control of how these manifolds fit together. We do a general approach of the main regularity conditions. The conditions (a) and (b) of H. Whitney, the (c)-regularity of K. Bekka, the condition weakly Whitney, defined for D. Trotman and K. Bekka, the Kuo ratio test and the (w)-regularity of Verdier, presenting their main properties, theorems and conditions of existence

Class, Authority, and the Querelle des Femmes: A Women's Community of Resistance in Early Modern Europe

Lawrence, Dana Eatman 2009 August 1900 (has links)
This dissertation examines the poetry of Isabella Whitney, a maidservant in London, Veronica Franco, a Venetian courtesan, Marie de Romieu, a baker's daughter in rural France, and Aemilia Lanyer, the daughter and wife of Italian immigrant musicians in London, all of whom attempted to create communities of learned and literary women within their texts. In their works, all four women boldly reject the misogyny prevalent in early modern culture; however, they do so without being able to withdraw from the culture that contributed to such rhetoric, thereby writing from the periphery. In her essay, "Choosing the Margin as a Space of Radical Openness," bell hooks identifies this position on the edge as one of opportunity. She argues that the very presence of the Other "within the culture of domination" is in itself a threat. As such, existing on the margins of that culture is unsafe and requires a "community of resistance" to turn that space into "a site of radical possibility." I argue that these four writers, marginalized by virtue of their sex as well as by their social positions, were united in a community of resistance through their participation in the querelle des femmes, a centuries-long debate about women's place in society. Each recognizes class, gender, and geographical hierarchies as social constructions and presents her own imagined resistant community of women within her work--each authorizing her own voice as they collectively rewrite women's history. As an international community of resistance, the works of these women may be seen as prefiguring contemporary debates about gender, community, and globalization. By examining the early modern querelle des femmes through the lens of postmodern feminism, this dissertation shows that, despite all of the historical models that position early modern European women as physically, politically, historically, and legally subordinate within their respective cultures, there existed a women's community of resisstance that not only refused to accept this inferior status but also recognized education and cooperation as a source of power.

Statistical analysis of end-points in cancer clinical trials

Campbell, Ian January 1994 (has links)
The major end-points arising from cancer clinical trials are reviewed. These are: tumour response, treatment morbidity, survival with related data, and quality of life. A survey of tumour response data from 81 published clinical trials found the most common statistical test in use to be a Chi squared test of the total response rate, but a total of 21 different statistical methods were used. The various statistical tests available are reviewed, including the Mann-Whitney test and the Chi squared test for trend which make use of all the categories of response and their intrinsic order. The assumptions underlying the tests are described. Theoretical considerations support the Mann-Whitney test as the optimum choice for the analysis of tumour response data. Methods for comparing alternative statistical tests are summarised, and a new method is described which uses a number of typical sets of data to estimate the relative efficiency of two statistical tests by the median value of the square of the ratio of the z-values. Using this technique, and data from the 81 trials, the Mann-Whitney test is found to be around 40% more efficient than the Chi squared test of the total response rate (this increased efficiency is equivalent to increasing the recruitment to the trial by 40%).This practical result is confirmed by mathematical modelling of tumour response using the power relation of the Mann-Whitney test for ordered categorical data, which is derived. Clinical data is found to fit best a shift model which assumes homogeneity of treatment effect across the different grades of response. On the basis of this model, the Mann-Whitney test is found to be 30% to 110% more efficient than a Chi squared test of the total response rate. The similarities of acute morbidity data to tumour response data lead to similar general conclusions on the optimum method of statistical analysis. In a survey of 36 published clinical trials, the most common method of statistical analysis was again a Chi squared test of a dichotomy (such as no morbidity versus morbidity of any grade). Analysis of data from these trials shows the Mann-Whitney test to be more efficient by around 30%.A survey of 81 papers reporting tumour response in clinical trials found that few of them used methods of estimation of the difference between the treatments, or derived confidence intervals of the size of such a difference. Methods of estimation and calculation of confidence intervals were found even less often in a survey of methods of presentation of morbidity results. The possible reasons for this are discussed. It is concluded that the current methods of analysis of tumour response data and many sets of acute treatment morbidity data are not optimum, and a change should be made from the Chi squared test to the Mann-Whitney test. Such a change could be equivalent to an increase in recruitment into many cancer clinical trials of around 40%.

Distribution-Free Confidence Intervals for Difference and Ratio of Medians

Price, Robert M., Bonett, Douglas G. 01 December 2002 (has links)
The classic nonparametric confidence intervals for a difference or ratio of medians assume that the distributions of the response variable or the log-transformed response variable have identical shapes in each population. Asymptotic distribution-free confidence intervals for a difference and ratio of medians are proposed which do not require identically shaped distributions. The new asymptotic methods are easy to compute and simulation results show that they perform well in small samples.
