Mental hälsa : Den upplevda effekten av kundaliniyoga hos fem utövare inom primärvården / Mental health : Perceived effect of kundalini yoga on five practitioners within primary health careKorek, Magdalena January 2015 (has links)
The numbers of stress-related diagnoses in society are growing while an increased number of people with stress-related symptoms look for help within primary health care. The primary health care provides different treatments for stress-related problems, amongst others kundalini yoga. Hitherto no qualitative study has been made on how practitioners experience kundalini yoga, practised in a drop-in-class, free of charge within primary health care. The study is based on an convenience sample of 5 participants. The participants defined themselves as women aged 25-85 years having different experiences of depression, angst, anxiety and other stress-related symptoms. The participants' responses were collected by the use of semi-structured interviews and analysed using the Constant Comparative Method. The participants expressed positive physical, mental, emotional, interpersonal and spiritual effects. The kundalini yoga fulfilled several crucial purposes in the lives of the participants and was of great importance for their physical and mental well-being. The sense of finding the right context and practice as well as external circumstances such as the kundalini yoga teacher and the fact that the yoga was free of charge played an important role in how the participants experienced the kundalini yoga. The participants perceived kundalini yoga as effective in reducing stress-related symptoms and in generating positive effects in a variety of areas of life.

The systematization of Yoga presented in the Yoga Sutras of Pata?jali, written around 400 CE, proposes an eight limb yoga system, also known as Ashtanga Yoga (ashta=eight, anga=limb), consisting of eight set of practices. Among them, the breathing practices, known as Pranayama, has been associated with positive effects on stress and anxiety. This thesis explores the impact of Bhastrika Pranayama training on markers of anxiety, affect, speech, and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) using a randomized controlled trial of two parallel arms. Thirty young healthy adults, na?ve to Yoga practices, were recruited and evalu-ated by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS), Speech Analysis and fMRI (emotional regulation task, and resting state-fMRI), before and after 4 weeks of training Bhastrika Pranayama or control activities. Results after bhastrika pranayama suggest reduction in both anxiety and negative affect, increased activity in bilateral anterior insula and right anterior cingulate cortex. Correlation analysis between fMRI signal during the emotional regulation protocol and PANAS scale showed that among individuals in pranayama group, individuals who most increased the activity in amygdala, right and left insula were those that less decreased negative affect. rs-fMRI results suggest decreased functional connectivity in the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (vlPFC) with right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) after pranayama. Correlation between rs-fMRI data and PANAS scale showed that among individuals in pranayama group, those who most decreased the connectivity between right anterior insula with right and left vlPFC were the individuals that most decreased negative affect. Speech analysis showed reduction in semantic properties when the word ?anxiety? was used as seed. No significant difference was found in speech structures after pranayama. In general, our results suggest that the practice of Bhastrika Pranayama leads to changes in anxiety and affect, which was accompanied by changes in the activity and connectivity of brain structures that participate in processes of emotional regulation.

The Effects of a Task Analysis and Self-Evaluation on the Acquisition of Yoga PosturesOrtega, Elizabeth 23 March 2018 (has links)
There is a growing amount of research evaluating behavioral approaches for skill acquisition in sports. Few of these studies have focused on yoga and skill acquisition. There is a need for a low effort yet effective way to teach yoga postures to individuals who do not take private yoga classes and may practice at home. This study evaluated the effects of using a picture-based task analysis and self-evaluation on the skill acquisition of yoga postures. A multiple baseline across yoga postures was used. During the task analyses intervention, the participants received a task analysis, performed the posture, and scored the task analysis upon the completion of the posture. Results showed that the task-analysis and self-evaluation increased the accuracy of all the poses.

Pedagogy of yoga due to population heath and targeted to extension positions and their effectivness to physiotherapy.Kozáková, Kristýna January 2018 (has links)
Title: Pedagogy of yoga due to population heath and targeted to extension positions and their effectivness to physiotherapy Objectives: The aim of the thesis is to clarify and collect sufficient information in the theoretical part about the anatomical, kinesiological and biomechanical aspects of the bending positions. After that, I will try to elaborate the theoretical background of yoga, its history, philosophy and a detailed description of selected bending positions (Usthrasana, Bhudjangasana, Urdhva mukha shvanasana), which are based on yoga. Grounded on the research questions in the practical part, I will assess whether there are discrepancies between the theoretical basis of the positions and the way they are taught in the classes today. I will evaluate how are the lessons currently taught in open yoga classes, whether they include those positions or not. I will also point out the use of compensatory aids and the degree education plays in this field. An integral piece of the practical part will be a summary of whether yoga classes take into an account the health of the clients. Methods: This is the theoretical-empirical character of the work. The research method is the observation and form of interview with yoga instructors on publicly accessible yoga lessons. Results: It has been confirmed...

Sestavení a ověření programu dechových cvičení jako součást podpory duševního zdraví adolescentů ve výchovných zařízeních / Setting and verification of the program of breathing exercises for adolescents as a supporting structure for their mental health in educational institutionsAUTERSKÁ, Regina January 2014 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the effect of breathing and relaxation exercises on the mental health of adolescents in educational institutions as there is a lack of such free time activities. There were 9 participants from the Children's home Žíchovec in the age 1115 years in this research. They took part in a 12-week intervention program called "I breathe therefore I am", that was set according to the specifics of adolescence. The effect of breathing exercises to the human body and mind was monitored by the Biofeedback Shulfried 2000x-pert device, the Profile Of Mood States questionnaire and the "Unfinished Sentences" method. The acquired data were analyzed and statistically validated. The results confirmed positive effect of breathing exercises on reducing the affective states, deepening abdominal breathing and decreasing the pulse frequency. The intervention program was reccomanded as a part of the free time activities of adolescents in educational institutions.

Vliv rozvoje sebekontroly a sebeúcty na snižování nadváhy prostřednictvím jógového tréninku u mužů \\ / The influence of development of self-control and self-esteem in overweight reduction through yoga training for menPOSPÍŠILOVÁ, Michaela January 2009 (has links)
In my thesis I have dealt with the overweight and obesity and its reduction by using interventional program lasting 12 weeks. The whole research was a part of a three-year research project called {\clqq}Positive Effects of Self-Control and Self-Esteem Development on Overweight control through Intervention of Yoga training`` and this project was supported by a grant from the Czech Grant Agency GACR No 406/05/2431 aimed at gender, age and overweight reduction, where four hundred volunteers took part. In my researching project 30 elderly men suffering from overweight and obesity of the first degree participated. I have used the interventional active plan with 15 elderly people in the experimental group from February 2008 till May 2008. The program of my diploma work focused not only on measuring the degree of overweight and obesity by using the values of BMI, BIA, and by measuring the amount of subcutaneous fat with a caliper, but also on identifying the role of Self-concept and Self-esteem and consequently on the positive influence of that on their mental and social parameters during the process of decreasing the current body weight by using yoga training and keeping healthy lifestyle. On concluding of the interventional active plan the gained results were evaluated by the use of statistic methods, which are included in the publication from doc. Krejčí, Factors of self-control and self-esteem in overweight reduction. The results proved that through doing yoga training regularly, at least 30 minutes a day, along with keeping healthy diet and practicing relaxation techniques, we managed decrease overweight and obesity of the first degree, maintained the weight and improved the mental state.
