Évaluation de l'équilibre postural par capteurs embarqués : application au yoga / Wearable device for postural balance assessment : application to yoga exerciseRouis, Amina 07 July 2015 (has links)
Balance is a key element for daily activities, that’s making balance training, is important for ev eryone. In the aim of promoting physical activity and changing exercise behaviour, BodyScoring’s balance application, using an inexpensive mobile device provided with accelerometers, gyroscope and magnetometer, proposes tow Yoga exercises (‘Tadasana and Vrksasana’), for balance improvement, an d calculates a score to determine the level skills and share it with friends. First, this thesis examines th e validity, reliability and the sensitivity of accelerometer data by comparing them to force platform data. Second, a postural scoring system is developed. Based on three key factors, it allows evaluating the postural performance, the duration and the appropriate execution of the exercise. The graphical re presentation of the score has allowed a straightforward and simple interpretation of results.

indústria do turismo.
yoga. / The relationship between Brazil and India is known for centuries when mentioned as

A pedagogia do violoncelo e aspectos de técnicas de reeducação corporal / Violoncello pedagogy and aspects of corporal reeducation techniques.Robert John Suetholz 06 May 2011 (has links)
The object of this work is to suggest various possibilities to arrive at a more natural and balanced mode of playing the violoncello. Initially, the general panorama of violoncello pedagogy and technique was analyzed in order to determine conclusions and opinions with regard to pedagogical resources today, together with the personal knowledge of the author. Next, six methods of corporal reeducation were researched, through bibliographic and electronic means, with the author participating in an average of ten private lessons in each technique. Information with regard to the increasing occurrence of physical injuries in the musical class was also analyzed, as well as that pertaining to athletes bodies and their care. All information garnered served as the basis for a discussion aimed at the construction and elaboration of a proposal of a new violoncello pedagogy that strives for a more natural functioning of the body and helps combat detrimental postures, so that future injuries to violoncellists may be avoided.

The Effects of Yoga Therapy on the Quality of Life for a Paraplegic IndividualPurdy, Allison Renee 31 July 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to document the effects that a regular yoga therapy practice has on the quality of life for a paraplegic individual. Due to the unique nature of spinal cord injury (SCI), this was a case study with one participant. For 5 weeks the subject practiced a standardized yoga routine three times a week with a yoga teacher, receiving private instruction. Interview questions were asked before and after the intervention to document the participant's quality of life. Each week, the subject completed a modified SF-36 questionnaire as well as Cohen's Perceived Stress Survey. Perceived pain and perceived stress were the two primary variables monitored in the study. The results of this study demonstrated a slight reduction in perceived stress, a reduction in perceived pain, and an improvement in overall quality of life. Additionally, the subject increased her strength significantly from the beginning to the end of the study. Based on the findings in this study, it appears that a regular adapted yoga routine is beneficial for paraplegic individuals.

The Force of Nonviolence de Judith Butler. / In a society the collective consciousness and mental structures are rooted in cultural and historical norms as well as in socio-political frameworks. Some of these norms can shape mental structures in such ways that they produce violence and inequality. It is therefore necessary to scrutinize what has led to a set of norms that cause social inequality and injustice in a society. One of the hypothesis in this thesis, is that the practice of yoga could contribute to a social transformation that leads to justice. In addition, a transformation towards social justice may occur by tracing back the sequence of events caused by these mental structures in order to problematize injustice at its roots. Such transformation has to recondition thought frames and enable an unconditional consciousness, in which inequality and binary structures no longer exist. Thus, the main question of this research is: how can yoga practice contribute to identifying and reforming mental structures and social norms in such ways that it leads to equality and social justice? The yoga practice that transforms individuals through the identification, deconditioning, and reconditioning of their mental structures is a progressive refinement of individual consciousness - as part of the collective consciousness - that makes the collective consciousness more sensitive to socio-political structures that need to be transformed toward social justice. This will be discussed in relation to the holistic perspective of yoga that is the basis of yoga philosophy. To approach its main question, this thesis draws on the spiritual and practical points of Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, B.K.S. Iyengar's teachings on yoga practice, and the socio-political perspectives of Judith Butler's The Force of Nonviolence.

The Role of Tie Strength in the Diffusion of Complementary and Alternative Medicine Information among Yoga PractitionersWeaver, Margaret Louise 05 1900 (has links)
The National Center for Complementary and Integrated Health, National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has highlighted a need for research to better understand the usage of complementary and alternative medicine practices. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flow of complementary and alternative medicine information among yoga practitioners. The study consisted of 51 yoga practitioners from 7 yoga studio locations. This mixed-methods study used interviews, surveys, and field notes to collect data. Content and social network analyses provided supporting evidence for Rogers' diffusion of innovations theory and Granovetter's strength of weak ties theory. Key findings included a preference for face-to-face communications, students having both strong and weak relationship ties to directors and instructors, and yoga being the top recommended practice. The study suggested that yoga practitioners related to complementary and alternative medicine information through the lens of their friends and relatives, sought information from trusted sources, and used this information to determine which practices were right for them to pursue.

The experience of exercise: women survivors of sexual violenceSmith-Marek, Erika Nicole January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / School of Family Studies and Human Services / Joyce Baptist / Sexual violence is pervasive in the lives of women across the globe. Survivors commonly experience a range of mental health conditions following sexual trauma, rendering the development and examination of effective treatments to be critical. Preliminary research supports the use of adjunct exercise interventions for the treatment of trauma. In order to explore the impact of exercise interventions for the treatment of sexual violence, specifically, it is necessary to first come to understand survivors’ experiences of exercise. To better understand the experience of exercise among women survivors of sexual violence, a phenomenological study, informed by a feminist perspective, was conducted with survivors of sexual violence receiving services at a rape crisis center. Data analysis uncovered four themes that capture the survivors’ experience: exercising (and avoiding exercising) fosters safety, exercising is risky, past trauma restricts exercise choices, and exercising is beneficial. Survivors’ choices related to exercise were found to be conscious and deliberate and were impacted by their stage of recovery. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.

Bronchial asthma incidence constitutes a compelling health and socioeconomical problem. Patients of all ages suffer from asthma, and no methods of effective prevention or healing are currently available. Poorly controlled asthma causes increase of financial expenditure as well as remarkable restriction of activities of daily living; it might even lead to death. In Czech republic, the number of patients with asthma is estimated at 500 000. The aim of this study is to evaluate effects of yoga exercise as a potential effective adjunct treatment on bronchial asthma state in adults. Theoretic part of the thesis describes pathological changes present in respiratory system, breathing pattern disorders and postural functions characteristic for patients suffering asthma disease. It also represents a brief summary of up to date findings of possible mechanisms on which are Spiral yoga and pranayama based, especially on these which can have an influence on obstructive lung disorders. Experimental part deals with the methodology and it reveals the process of making randomized clinical pilot study. Between 11 adult participants were investigated at the start and at the end of a three-month- long therapy.
