M.Cur. / Nursing is a profession involving the care of people. Nursing is a goal directed process in which the primary objective is to develop a relationship between the care provider (nurse) and the care receiver (patient) for the purpose of maintaining a level of functioning (Kreigh & Perko, 1979:10). Psychiatric nursing is defined as specialised field within the practice of nursing. The focus of psychiatric nursing is both corrective and preventative. It is corrective in that it provides individuals, families or groups, who are experiencing various degrees of emotional or psycho-social disequilibrium with an opportunity to engage in a therapeutic interactional process. It is preventative in that it endeavours through the educative aspect of the interpersonal process and role model exemplification, to preserve equilibrium and promote optimum mental health (Kreigh &Perko, 1979:7).One of the concepts that the psychiatric nurse believes is important in developing criteria for care is that behaviour has meaning. In this study, behaviour is what the youth says and does. Meaning is defined as the way in which young people attempt to convey the expression of their innermost feelings. Harris and Radaelli, 2007 state that the perception of people constitute the reality of daily life, hence what the youth says and does, is in response to perceived external and internal stimuli.

The purpose of this essay is to analyse the descriptions of young girls' experiences of internet contacts, which have led up to sexual abuse. The aim is to give additional understanding and knowledge concerning grooming. Grooming means that somebody gets in contact with someone else with the intention of committing sexual violations at a later stage. In most cases this concerns adults who contact children. We have chosen to confine ourselves to focusing on the grooming on internet that has happened to girls. By means of thematic analyses of texts from the books Jag kände mig speciell, grooming på internet, 2012 and Alexandramannen, vår tids största nätsexhärva, 2009, we have found certain themes and linked them up with previous research-work and also theory of social psychology. We have used previous research that describes young people's inclination for internet, which has primarily dealt with the control, anonymity and freedom they have experienced. We have also used studies that describe how male interpretative priority affects sexual acts, and discovered that this fact makes it complicated to report sexual abuse for women. The theories of social psychology we have used are Fromm's mechanisms of escape and Gidden's ontological security, which explain the development of the individual, and how that person is influenced by the conditions during his/her childhood and youth, and also Goffman's theories regarding the dramaturgic acting and internet as a specific arena. In this study it has shown that internet is a specific arena with specific rules that affect the girls' space of action and interaction. It has also shown that the girls' already difficult conditions during childhood and youth, for example because of having family problems and parents who are addicts, have influenced the girls' self-identity and self-integrity, which has created mechanisms of escape that has made it possible for

The Impact of the Men Accepting Neophytes-Uplifting Pupils Community-Based Mentoring ProgramStephen, Aisha 01 January 2017 (has links)
Effective mentoring programs are essential for African American youth to feel satisfaction and contribute to society, particularly in large urban communities. A need exists to study the impact of community-based mentoring programs in central Georgia, particularly those focused on male African Americans. Despite various mentoring programs, stakeholders know little about the elements of program impact for at-risk youths. Community mentoring programs frequently serve as a tool to minimize high dropout rates that often result from youth incarceration, expulsion, and suspension. The purpose of this study was to gain insight into the perceptions of mentors and administrative staff on the impact of programs designed to support at-risk youths' successful return to school. Attachment theory; Alderfer's existence, relatedness, and growth theory; and social-development theory served as the framework for this study. This qualitative case study examined the perceptions of mentors and administrators on the impact of the Men Accepting Neophytes and Uplifting Pupils (MAN-UP) mentoring program. Data accrued from document review, interviews, and observations of 15 mentors and 3 administrators. Data analytic procedures included the use of codes and themes. Results showed that the MAN-UP program is effective in combating some of the challenges that at-risk youth face. Positive social change may result from the creation of professional development for mentors and program administrators, which is specifically designed to improve the negative behaviors of African American male at-risk youth. This could have implications for mentors, educators, and communities seeking to reduce school suspension and expulsion rates and crimes that lead to incarceration. Proper mentor training would help to reduce recidivism.

<p>This study is about youths and their thoughts on democracy. The study seeks to describe the problem of pupils’ ideas of democracy in context to the ideas that is described by the curriculum, Lpo94, and attach these ideas to theories of democracy to show what type of democracy the youths are bringing up. Three theories about democracy are brought up in this essay: the theory of electoral democracy, participatory democracy and deliberative democracy. The study is based on a qualitative survey answered by 102 pupils in the senior level of the compulsory school, grades 7, 8 and 9. The answers given by the pupils in this study are for the most part attached to the theory of electoral democracy and partly to the participatory democracy. The pupils refer to elections and voting, and the participation in the democratic procedure as the most important elements of democracy. Justice and the civil rights are also brought up in the answers by the pupils. They refer to democracy as a way of making decisions and the rights for the members of the society. The results of this study are compared to the results of another study, made by Skolverket in 2003: NU03. This comparison shows that the conception of democracy that the youths are delivering is similar to the NU03. The results of both of the studies show that the youths mostly refer to the principles of electoral democracy. In proportion to the ideas of democracy that is brought by the curriculum, Lpo94, which recommend the deliberative democracy’s principles, the results of this study shows that the youth’s picture of democracy and the Lpo94’s ideas of this are not the same. The consequences for our democratic society and for individuals are that we attend to keep our present democracy and we teach the pupils how to vote but not to develop our democracy.</p>
