Změny v turecké zahraniční politice vůči Íránu v Davutogluově éře (2002-2012) / Changes in Turkish foreign policy towards Iran in the Davutoğlu era (2002 - 2012)Marcinová, Slávka January 2019 (has links)
The principal aims of the research are to identify the nature and scope of Turkish foreign policy change towards Iran in the period 2002-2012 - the first ten years of the successive governments of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). Then, individual sources of foreign policy change and their respective roles in shaping Turkish foreign policy toward Iran will be investigated. As the research is theoretically grounded in the subfield of foreign policy analysis known as foreign policy change, the reader is familiarized with a variety of different models used in the study of foreign policy change. In order to assess the relevance of the individual sources, an alternative explanatory model is designed. The application of the designed foreign policy model highlights the necessity of applying a wider approach in the quest to assess Turkish foreign policy change, taking into account the different domestic and international sources in order to achieve a comprehensive explanation that can evaluate the relative power of international and domestic political, economic, and ideational sources serving as its driving mechanisms. The role of economic factors - long seen as fundamental in shaping Turkey's foreign policy toward its neighbors - and the role of security concerns are subsequently identified as...

The EU foreign policy toward the North Korea: its effects and limitationJang, Seong Jung January 2012 (has links)
Jang, Seong Jung EU has been engaged in North Korean affairs since it started humanitarian aid in 1990s. EU has developed institutional grounds for the diplomatic relation and it has implemented foreign policy towards North Korea in the context of Asia strategy. Its approach to North Korea is connected with Neo-liberal thinking. It stressed the international cooperation to resolve the nuclear problem, and utilized political dialogues and international institution to improve the poor human rights in North Korea. It also continued humanitarian aid irrespective of security problem, and offered economic cooperation programs for the economic development of North Korea. However, EU is not in the strong position to affect the security issue in the Korean peninsula due to various causes such as the geopolitical distance. Moreover, EU's economic cooperation programs are often frustrated by the political constraints. Rather, it puts the energy in keeping the position by playing a leading role in the improvement of human rights and continuing humanitarian aid. This policy trend will be continued in the near future. Though there are limited capacity, EU has strengths in part to contribute to the settlement of the North Korean issues with a few reasons. First, EU gains a favorable position to access to North...

Foreign-Owned Banks and Host Economies / Foreign-Owned Banks and Host EconomiesFišerová, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
In the past two decades, significant changes have been shaping and transforming the banking sectors worldwide. Among these trends we find an intensive surge in foreign bank ownership which is especially remarkable in the countries of the Central, Eastern and South-Eastern European region. Using the sample of 17 countries and filtering out more than 140 domestically-operating foreign-owned banks, we examine the determinants of their performance in relation to host country conditions and home country banking sector performance over the period of seven years between 2005 and 2011. Due to the topic's currency, we additionally provide an insight into the link between sovereign debt and bank ownership. By means of system GMM model, or fixed effects model, we reveal that macroeconomic fundamentals of the host country affect the foreign-owned banks' performance but do not suffice in explaining it fully. Moreover, the depth of the current crisis as demonstrated in the home country impacts negatively on the host-country-operating foreign-owned banks. We did not find any convincing evidence of the host sovereign debt and bank ownership nature of relationship.

Religion and foreign policy : the case of Saudi ArabiaMammadov, Sabir January 2013 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the religious and ideological aspects of the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It seeks to understand the dynamics of this foreign policy and its correlation with the state religion, Islam. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays a highly significant role in the Islamic world. Two major factors that contribute to this situation are the presence of two major Muslim shrines (in Mecca and Medina), and the country's huge oil reserves. Saudi Arabia's religious stature and significant economic potential places it well and truly on the world stage. Saudi Arabia's foreign policy is based on historical, geographical, religious, economic, security, and political factors, and is activated in a number of geo-political circles, including the Gulf and wider Middle East, the 'Arab world', the 'Muslim world', and internationally. The Islamic circle is a very important arena in which the country exercises its foreign policy as it claims to be a leader in the Muslim world. The religious basis of Saudi politics is generally very stable and contributes to the perception of Saudi Arabia in parts of the Islamic world as a 'bearer of divine grace'. The Kingdom portrays itself as a conservative state guided by the ideological norms of Islam and promotes their proliferation and protection....

It finds out that the FDI is positively and significantly influenced by the size of the economy (GDP, growth of GDP), total size of the labor force, openness of the economy and institutional framework. The findings show the EU accession does not have an immediate effect. However, long term membership might positively affect the FDI inflow. According to our analysis the recent financial crisis has changed the main determinants of the FDI inflows. It has warned the investors it is important not to consider only immediate profits but also future prospects. Generally the investment nowadays is below its potential level and the governments should take action to change it, if the FDI is their priority.
