Categorization of predators is fundamental for birds? life. However, the mechanism is not well explained yet. Two basic theories of categorization were tested in the laboratory conditions, where we have the possibility to focus on the behavior of each individuum. In the experiments we focused on the relevance of the key features and colour patterns. The responses of the Great Tit to variously modified dummies of Sparrowhawk were observed. The results confirm that the bird does not recognize the predator only on the basis of the key features and the colour patterns have a essential influence on the categorization. Categorization of the predator is a complex process and it cannot be explained only on the basis of one psychological theory. A combination of the key features and a prototype of a particular category learned throughout its life is probably used.

This diploma thesis is focused on the analysis of Czech regional and district capitals attitude of their visual identity. It deals especially with management decisions which had been chosen by capitals in the phase of creation and implementation of the visual identity. Next to the facts connected with visual identity as with a complex system, this thesis evaluates also an approach of the capitals to the particular elements of a vizual identity. As a method a questionnaire research had been used. The questions had been put to the competent representatives of appropriate capital bodies.

This diploma thesis is occupied with analysis of the keys to the maps of Landscape Atlas of the Czech Republic and the Landscape Atlas of the Slovak Republic with emphasis on their mutual comparison. This thesis based on the published general theoretical principles of cartographic production. The theoretical part concludes with a chapter that engages in the key in detail, its types, procedures, etc. Then come critical analysis and classification keys to the maps of Landscape Atlas of the CR and subsequent comparison with Landscape Atlas of the SR using objective cartographic criteria. There is observed mainly the overall clarity, completeness, graphical representation and last but not least the overall look of the keys.

This diploma thesis deals with the exploration and comparison of symbol keys used for official maps of European countries. The theoretical part deals mainly with legends and cartographic symbols as a key element of the thesis. Then an assessment of available symbol systems and comparison of map symbols used in symbol systems for the official map of the Czech Republic is made. In the conclusion there is drawn proposal for symbol system applicable to maps of all European countries.

ŠNAJDROVÁ, Marie. Learning book like a comics /Thesis/ Prague 2014 - Charles University, Faculty of education, department of art education, 81 pages. The thesis deals with comics as a peculiar art which is suitable for education too. It defines concepts as art, illustration, comics or learning book. The thesis inquires into function and using of illustrations in learning books. It shows some examples of contemporary comics' production, focuses on theoretical angle of this medium and offers confrontation with other media. And finally it goes to using comics for creating a learning book, and it shows some aspects why is comics adequate device. Fairy tale as a space for an art reinterpretation Bc. Monika Švajková Abstract The thesis introduces authors view on the evolution of fairy tales in Europe and its transformation since 19th century in literature, visual arts and related field of knowledge. Its purpose was to create an art project that would connect cultures of Czech Republic and Finland through fairy tales and fine art. Resulting didactical tasks develop fairy tales of one country through contemporary art of the other. The tasks apply to several conceptions of teaching as the implementation took place at the primary art school, high school and lappish art gallery. The art project closes with authors art etudes that expand theme of the forest as an area for updating of fairy tales and simultaneously captures the authors view on the theme of fairy tales. The outcomes and benefits of the thesis were verification of the didactical tasks that would in contemporary art update the classic children literature in context of these two countries.

This diploma thesis deals with a concept of a word and a picture, it compares these two terms, identifies the differences and describes their mutual relationship. It charts those two terms as means of communication and as bearers of meaning. It also describes different ways to combine them in art - it explores presence of a word in paintings in both historical and contemporary art. Didactic part of the thesis is focused on a use of text in art and its meaning. It contains an art project which aims to transfer a text into a picture - to translate a literature into language of art. The project resulted in a series of staged photographic self-portraits representing personal reflection of a topic presented in a literature. Practical part reflects examined relationship of the word and the picture. It refers to the results of the theoretical part and describes author's personal standpoint. Author refers to different ways of connection of the text and fine art and updates them. Author tries to portray a word as a picture which becomes either paradox or harmony.

In this paper we present C. S. Peirce's take on the difference between science and practice in order to identify the role practice plays in his view of the universe. This take is based on a number of notions about the general nature of signs, inquiries, inferences and arguments, which we discuss. We then survey Peirce's classification of science, show the factors it is based on and examine the mutual relations of the various fields of scientific study. This lets us finally posit practice in the realm of qualities and reactions and show the limits of scientific inquiry into certain matters. We illustrate our findings on a number of examples.

This thesis focuses on the basic delimiting of the issue of play within the framework C. S. Peirce's semiotics. Its objective is to expound and explicate the role of the phenomena of play in Peirce's philosophy using selected Peirce's texts and secondary literature, whereas our main starting-point is Peirce's identification of play with the inferential form of abduction. As such play is connected to Peirce's theories of sign and inference, as well as to the concepts of synechism, evolutionary cosmology and pragmatism. This finding sets Peirce's theory of inference within critical logic as one of the key themes of the thesis. In relation to this finding we give a basic explanation of Peirce's phaneroscopy and speculative grammar which in dependency on Peirce's classification of sciences set the ground for our analysis of play as a process of inference as well as a significant function. Within the framework of critical logic we focus primarily on abduction, especially on the question of the validity of abduction as a form of logical reasoning as well as on Peirce's transition from understanding different forms of inference as separate processes to understanding them as a continuous and interdependent whole of the scientific method.
