Gauge invariant constructions in Yang-Mills theoriesSharma, Poonam January 2012 (has links)
Understanding physical configurations and how these can emerge from the underlying gauge theory is a fundamental problem in modern particle physics. This thesis investigates the study of these configurations primarily focussing on the need for gauge invariance in constructing the gauge invariant fields for any physical theory. We consider Wu’s approach to gauge invariance by identifying the gauge symmetry preserving conditions in quantum electrodynamics and demonstrate how Wu’s conditions for one-loop order calculations (under various regularisation schemes) leads to the maintenance of gauge invariance. The need for gauge invariance is stressed and the consequences discussed in terms of the Ward identities for which various examples and proofs are presented in this thesis. We next consider Zwanziger’s description of a mass term in Yang-Mills theory, where an expansion is introduced in terms of the quadratic and cubic powers of the field strength. Although Zwanziger introduced this expansion there is, however, no derivation or discussion about how it arises and how it may be extended to higher orders. We show how Zwanziger’s expansion in terms of the inverse covariant Laplacian can be derived and extended to higher orders. An explicit derivation is presented, for the first time, for the next to next to leading order term. The role of dressings and their factorisation lies at the heart of this analysis.

Gestaltung - Vordemberge-Gildewarts universales Prinzip in freier und angewandter KunstMeyering, Judith 17 December 2004 (has links)
This dissertation gives new results in regard to interpretations and explanations for the term Gestaltung on the constructivist Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart. The first part shows VG as a theoretican and is based on his theoretical writings of the twenties; the second part deals with his works as paractical artist. The wiritings shows his postulates on art and artist concerning formal-aesthetic, gestalt-psychological and social-utopian aspects. The formation-principle is described as an all-purpose method arranged in several layers, based on working processes in building elements, series and transforming. With the union of art and living, VG demanded a new-organization of the environment, so that all branches of his work has been of equal value, similar to the Bauhaus and the Dutch Stijl-group. The second part shows the practical realization of his theoretical principal in free and applied art: free constructions, architecture, design of furniture and typography are compared and analyzed. This work offers a new start in the correlation of Gestalt-psychology and art. For the first time, it will be questioned, if laws and qualities of Gestalten can be applied on constructivist art. The results are shown on actual examples. New connections were found in case of abstract film and the performance of series of movements in absolute art. These interdisciplinary dissertations not only joins explorations on history of art, theory of art and psychology, but delivers a wide and thoroughly view inside the different sections of free and applied art of the twenties.

The decline of men’s choir in 20th century Germany: an homage to Erwin LendvaiSchröder, Gesine 21 February 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The most important 1920’s men’s choral composer, Erwin Lendvai, is used in this lecture as an example to demonstrate some compositional steps that were taken to save the genre. Contemporaries praised him as a bold innovator of men’s choir. His writing is highly professional and his experience as a conductor shows in every detail. Stylistically, his music is a mixture of chromatically altered extended tonality and polyphonic principles found in the kind of boyish and unmannerly Renaissance songs Lendvai was familiar with, due to his transcriptions in the style of the “Jugenmusikbewegung”. He connects two ultra-modern tendencies of the time, namely linear counterpoint (no longer exactly in the sense of Ernst Kurth) and a morbid post-wagnerianism, both en vogue and equally fascinating.

Aspectos não perturbativos das teorias de Yang-Mills no calibre abeliano maximal / Non-perturbative aspects of the Yang-Mills theories in the maximal Albelian gaugeMarcio André Lopes Capri 28 January 2009 (has links)
In this, we study the nonperturbative effects associated to the presence of the horizon and to the condensation of local dimension two operators in an Eucledean SU(2)Yang-Mills theory quantized in the maximal Abelian gauge. Such effects are introduced in a way to preserve the properties of renormalizability and locality of the theory. The comparison with the lattice data indicates a good qualitative agreement.
