Uses data envelopment analysis to evaluate relative efficiencies of power plants in Taiwan Power Company

Liang, Wen-hong 30 June 2008 (has links)
The achievements of operation in Taiwan Power Company, a state-run power supply enterprise, affect by the non-controllable factor such as energy policy and dispatcher factor and so on. The conclusion based on simplification for input and output because that these factors too complicated to concreted. This research uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) to evaluate relative efficiencies of power plants in Taiwan Power Company by involving variables of the capacity, manpower, the cost of operation and maintenance, net power output, through relevant documents. The slack variable analysis show that where these shortcomings are. This main conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: The empirical results indicate that the best average relative efficiency of 5 power plants are the TaiChung thermal power plant, 3rd nuclear power plant, 2nd nuclear power plant, 1st nuclear power plant and the Eastern hydropower plant. The worst 5 power plants are The Takuan hydropower plant, Mingtan hydropower plant, DaLin thermal power plant, Nan-Pu thermal power plant and the Jhuolan hydropower plant. The slack variable vnalysis show that there are the eight idle installed capacity, three idle personnel and seven over cost of operation and maintenance of the power plant to carry on the self-criticism. The good average relative efficiency power plant among seven hydropower plants are Mingtan; But the bad relative efficiency is Jhuolan power plant. Enhances management achievements of the hydropower plant department, should first have the four idle installed capacity, three idle personnel and two over cost of operation and maintenance of the power plant to carry on the self-criticism. By the three nuclear power plant for the analysis object knew its relative efficiency to be best by the 3rd site, the 2nd site is the worst. Enhances management achievements of the nuclear power plant, should first have the one idle personnel and two over cost of operation and maintenance of the power plant to carry on the self-criticism. For analyzing the object knowing relative efficiency by eight thermal power plants, the best is the Taichung power plant; but relative bad efficiency is the DaLin power plant. Enhances management achievements part the thermal power plant should first have the four idle installed capacity, four idle personnel and six over cost of operation and maintenance of the power plant to carry on the self-criticism. From four type of analyses, the technical efficiency is bigger than overall efficiency in Taipower company. Because the input efficiency over the output efficiency ratio is inadequate, therefore, we may promote overall efficiency by the way of the improvement of scale efficiency.

The Research of Population Census with Data Mining Technology and GIS

Chang, Chin-jui 17 July 2009 (has links)
This article offers the results of creative research: (1) Suggestions on a research structure for data mining visulization with GIS. (2) A search for the distribution of various population groups in society using the census 2000 as research background. In single-parent families, aborigines and the elderly have long been considered disadvantaged social classes, and their widening problems will have a tremendous impact and influence on society. This study aims to apply data mining techniques to investigate the demographic features of socially disadvantaged groups in Taipei, Kaohsiung and Los Angeles County by using population data collected in the 2000 census to provide reference for social welfare decision makers in understanding these groups and forming policy. The demographic features, marital features and educational attainment of the heads of household in single-parent families and poverty lives were investigated. The demographic features, educational attainment and marital status of aborigines were analyzed. The marital features, educational attainment, care and life patterns of the elderly were studied.

XML as a Format for Representation and Manipulation of Data from Radar Communications

Alfredsson, Anders January 2001 (has links)
<p>XML was designed to be a new standard for marking up data on the web. However, as a result of its extensible and flexible properties, XML is now being used more and more for other purposes than was originally intended. Today XML is prompting an approach more focused on data exchange, between different applications inside companies or even between cooperating businesses.</p><p>Businesses are showing interest in using XML as an integral part of their work. Ericsson Microwave Systems (EMW) is a company that sees XML as a conceivable solution to problems in the work with radar communications. An approach towards a solution based on a relational database system has earlier been analysed.</p><p>In this project we present an investigation of the work at EMW, and identification and documentation of the problems in the radar communication work. Also, the requirements and expectations that EMW has on XML are presented. Moreover, an analysis has been made to decide to what extent XML could be used to solve the problems of EMW. The analysis was conducted by elucidating the problems and possibilities of XML compared to the previous approach for solving the problems at EMW, which was based on using a relational database management system.</p><p>The analysis shows that XML has good features for representing hierarchically structured data, as in the EMW case. It is also shown that XML is good for data integration purposes. Furthermore, the analysis shows that XML, due to its self-describing and weak typing nature, is inappropriate to use in the data semantics and integrity problem context of EMW. However, it also shows that the new XML Schema standard could be used as a complement to the core XML standard, to partially solve the semantics problems.</p>

Current and future application areas for external data in data warehouses

Niklasson, Markus January 2003 (has links)
<p>External data is data that a company could acquire outside their internal systems. This external data could bring another dimension for the companies, and allow them to further understand the environment. External data incorporated into a data warehouse makes it possible to exploit a number of application areas. The comprehensive aim of this dissertation is to outline what application areas that companies exploits today and what the future will bring. To achieve this, an interview study among people working with external data and DWs have been conducted.</p><p>Based on the information gathered through the study, the most common application areas are address updates, credit information, and marketing. Some smaller application areas have also been identified. A discussion on what application areas that will come in the future, are also to be found.</p>
