Organisationskultur och ledarskap : En jämförande diskursiv analys av första linjens chefer inom äldreomsorg och tillverkningsindustri

The study Leadership and Organizational Culture- One-discursive analysis of first-line managers in elderly care analyze organizational culture and leadership in public municipal elderly care through first-line managers' descriptions of their work practices. The study is a comparative study between first-line managers in municipal elderly care and an industry. The empirical material has been collected through seven interviews of first line managers in the elderly care and the manager closest to the operation in the industry.    This thesis intends to analyzed the both functions through a discourse method with the purpose to investigate its impact on organizational culture and leadership. Organizational culture, institution and leadership is used as a theoretical framework to obscure the basis and possibility for sociological interpretations of the empirical material. The study reveals discourses about a bureaucratic organizational culture through formally divided discourses on mandates and decision-making rights, and the distance and exclusion is created for those members who do not hold the right formal position and through that access to the discourse. Through goal management and follow-up of results, signals the expected and prioritized  way of work that is important. It creates a Path-Goal leadership with a focus on governing systems such as schedule and budget.   Through their shared experiences and actions within their working group, the members are guided to a common approach within the group. The working group becomes an institution with common thoughts, values and feelings that become governing in the daily actions and in the priorities that are made.
