According to the World Health Organization domestic violence against women is a growing problem in the world and it is therefore viewed as a society problem. Domestic violence against elderly woman is often overlooked in science and in general even though it has been shown that domestic violence does not cease with rising age. The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate social workers experiences with domestically abused elderly women. The purpose of the study was also to investigate if covid-19 has had any impact on the social workers in their work with domestically abused elderly women. The study was based on semi-structured interviews with seven social workers in a medium sized municipal in Sweden. The study used theories of street-level bureaucracy, discretion and intersectionality with help from the theory om ageism for a deeper understanding of the subject. The results from the study show that the most commonly used form of violence against elderly women in a domestic environment is psychological violence due to manly power imbalance between men and women. The results from the study show that the most common reason for domestic violence of elderly woman is dementia and power structures in society. The results from the study also show that covid-19 has had an impact on the social workers due to the restrictions of social distancing.
