Syftet med föreliggande studie var att undersöka hur adoptivföräldrar som adopterat barn internationellt, upplevde sin delaktighet och utsatthet i sin medgivarutredning. Utöver detta undersöktes hur familjerättssekreterare upplever att de kan bemöta adoptivföräldrar utifrån ett professionellt förhållningssätt. För att besvara studiens syfte användes en kvalitativ ansats där sex personer intervjuades, fyra stycken adoptivföräldrar respektive två familjerättssekreterare. Det empiriska materialet tolkades utifrån teorier som omfattade makt och roller inom det professionella arbetet med människor. Resultatet visade att det fanns delade uppfattningar bland samtliga respondenter angående tankarna om delaktighet, utsatthet, bemötande och professionellt förhållningssätt. Dock gick det att urskilja att adoptivföräldrarnas delaktighet kunde öka utifrån ett gott bemötande ifrån familjerättssekreterarna, vilket i sin tur hade ett starkt samband med det professionella förhållningssättet. Ifall adoptivföräldrarnas känsla av delaktighet ökade, minskade dessutom deras upplevelse av utsatthet. Sammantaget är en av studiens slutsats att utsatthet, delaktighet, bemötande och professionellt förhållningssätt, alla är förutsättningar för varandra och att det ena begreppet ej går att förklara utan det andra. / The purpose of this study was to examine how the adoptive parents, who adopted children internationally, experienced their participation and vulnerability in their consent inquiry. In addition to this purpose, the study examined how adoption social workers experience that they can respond to adoptive parents based on a professional approach. To answer the purpose of the study a qualitative approach was used in which six people were interviewed, four adoptive parents and two adoption social workers. The empirical data were interpreted by theories involving power and roles in the professional work with people. The results showed that there were different views among all respondents on the concepts of participation, vulnerability, attitude and professional approach. However, it was possible to discern that the adoptive parents' participation could increase from a good response from adoption social workers, which in turn had a strong relationship with the professional approach. If the adoptive parents' sense of participation was increased, was their experience of vulnerability reduced. Overall, one of the conclusions of the study was that vulnerability, participation, attitude and professional approach, are all based on each other and that neither concepts can be explained without illuminating the other.
